Very well, this was one of those “Baltimore” snowfalls, light snow, supposed to be less than an inch. John called in the morning me to gauge my expectations in this type of snowfall- that alone was impressive. We decided to wait and see exactly how much snow would actually fall. About one pm, we had gotten a couple of inches and I knew I would need snow removal, so I called John and let him know, he came over with his crew as expected at about four that afternoon, did a great job cleaned everything he was supposed to, cars, sidewalk, driveway. Fantastic! I am almost looking forward to the next round of snow!

Excellent. The work performed is outstanding. Park Slade has had other landscaping and snow removal contractors, but none have performed as well as TrueVine. It is a pleasure to deal with this company.

John Seymour, President, is a very knowledgeable hard worker with excellent design vision and meticulous attention to detail. I recommend him highly. He is honest, dependable, creative, conscientious, easy to work with, and reasonably priced.

We have tried to hang in there with this business and have always paid on time. They don't care about our business anymore . They have been clear at this point that their commercial business comes first .

The eork was rushed, many areas in the yard were missed by the mower. Grass and dirt was sprayed on my white house siding, and my newly (black mulched) flower bed, was LOADED with grass cuttings. I previously asked him to be careful around the mulch. He totally ignored my wishes. When I mentioned the grass in the flowerbed, he said they didn't want to nlow the mulch because it would blow on the grass. So I was stuck with gray mulch mixed in with grass cuttings, andgrass rooted and growing in the bed, and wasted money on new mulch $90 worth. Then his workers broke my yard lights with their weed whacker. Seymour (owner) ignored my concern. His typical response to problems is: laughter, excuses, lies, rolls his eyes when you voice concerns, and acts as if you the customer are the problem. John Seymour is only looking for payment. Complaints or concerns are ignored. I do not recommend this company, nor the merged company Suswuehanna Landscaping. They are doing shabby rushed work.

For the past few year the service is spot on. I really appreciate the work and communication from both John and his wife. We look forward as to continuing our service this spring.

We used Seymour's Edge for a couple of summers to cut our yard. His workers are polite and professional but I can't say the same about the owner. To get him to cut our yard when scheduled was a chore. Always the same excuse and crappy attitude--"it's been raining. I can't control the weather" Sure that was the case sometimes but it was the excuse he often used even when it wasn't the case.
We prepaid for the service and actually overpaid last summer. He told us he would owe us a credit for the next season yet we received a letter in the mail saying he would not be cutting our yard any longer, but of course we didn't receive the credit. Not a phone call but a letter. Of course, this means more phone calls to get him to send us what he owes us which I'll be shocked if it happens. Not to mention he left us high and dry just as the season has begun. If you need regular lawn maintenance, call someone else.

Seymour's Edge was wonderful to work with, from start to finish. He answers his phone all the time and is quick to respond via email. He was able to come to my house the day after I first called him, plus he managed to squeeze my job in very quickly. He gave me a wonderful price on the job- it's true that I didn't get any other estimates, but I was still expecting to pay much more. He followed-up with me to make sure I was happy with the end result- I'll definitely be using Seymour's Edge again come Spring.

It was hard to get the quote. Not very responsive. The work was not completed and they left. They also failed to create a straight line to edge our back yard. It was very crooked. Not professional looking at all. My wife called to complain and was told they would come back to fix. They never did.

I spent about $100 on the job. The guy was very professional. He came out and got the job done. He was clean. When I came home from work, the work was all done. It was good. I was really surprised. I didn’t have to overlook the work that he did. I will use this company again in the future.

SEE PICTURES Mowing the Yard I had Seymour cut my grass on an emergency basis because the weeds (no grass) were really high. Unfortunately, they left the weed clippings on the ground. Grass clippings are sometimes considered good for the ground, but I think that the weed clippings are not good for the ground and should have been removed. Tree Pruning I had already scheduled with Seymours to trim my cypress tree and do other tree pruning. The dead branches of my cypress were supposed to be removed. Some of them were. Here is a picture of the tree after Seymours did the work. See the dead branches. Tree Bed and Bushes Clearing At the front of the house, Seymours was supposed to prune the trees and clear underneath. The most important part was to be able to get to the base of the evergreen tree and cut the base of the vines that were growing up the evergreen to the top and smothering the tree. The holly tree was cut back and so was the burning bush. However, Seymours did not cut and remove the vines. After he took payment for the work, I asked why the vines were not cut. He said that he could not get to the base of the tree because of the blueberry bush. The blueberry bush was only in one area and did not go around the entire tree, so I do not understand why the vines were not cut from another angle. Seymours did not do the work that I requested. I called to request that the work be finished and twice Seymours said that they would come to finish but did not. I finally sent an e-mail stating that if they did not come out then next day I would request a refund. Seymour came out the next day and we discussed clearing of the plant bed for an additional $100. Attached is a picture of the plant bed two days after the work. An unsightly hole was cut in the tree bed and plant debris remained. There are still blueberry shoots sticking out of the ground, dead leaves and branches. The low hanging vines were not removed. The tree branches were cut on one side only; and instead of being cut back to the trunk, were cut to stick out 12 inches from the trunk! I called Seymours on 9/18/2010 to let them know that this was a start, but Seymours said that they were done with the work. Seymours stated that they used three large tarps to remove the cuttings, as if the number of tarps they used was a sign that the job was complete. I don’t think that the size and number of tarps has any relevance on the final product. I also don’t think that the final product would be featured in any of Seymour’s advertisements to showcase his work. When I told Seymours that I was dissatisfied, their response was “when can we get payment of the $100?”
Response from True Vine Services
"In regards to the member's comments about the mowing – the lawn was approximately 2 feet tall when she called me and we did come out on an emergency basis to cut for her. In our phone discussion, I explained that we would do our best to make the lawn look better. We ran the mower over the backyard 5 times until the lawn was at a proper and healthy length. It is not our practice to rake and bag lawn clippings regardless of how high the grass was before cutting, unless the customer asks for it. When they do, there is an additional charge for this service. The member never asked for this service to be performed. In response to the concern about the pruning of the cypress tree, the member and I spoke on a number of occasions after the work was completed and if there was a concern, it was not brought to my attention during those conversations. The particular tree in question is not depicted in any of the photos that the member provided to Angie’s List when submitting her report. The Cypress tree that we worked on was in the back yard and it was pruned as we stated we would do. The photos provided by the member are all of the same evergreen tree (which is more than 50’ tall) and the area surrounding the tree. In the enhancement proposal provided and agreed to by the member, we clearly state “The azalea stumps will be removed in the front left bed. The left side bed will be cleaned out and we will cut and remove as many vines and the small patch of blueberry plants as possible.” We completed this work. I explained to the member that it would take a few days for the vines to die and we would be back to rip them out and we did. There were vines at the top of the tree that we were not able to remove. When the member and I met in between this time and she stated that she was not happy with the amount of blueberry plants that were left, I explained that we cut them down as much as we could and removed as much as we could. The member was unhappy that there were some residual plant debris still there, so we went back approximately 3 weeks later and pulled the stalks out and attempted to cut the bush closer to the ground. The member asked for us to create an area for her to gain access to the base of the tree, so I and one of my workers spent close to a day doing this particular job which included removing a cherry tree in this area as well as other work. This was the work that was completed for an additional $100 that the member refers to. I never asked her about when we could get the payment of the additional $100 for the work as the member claims. The member was provided an enhancement estimate listing three different jobs to be completed with a price associated with each job. The total price for the three “jobs” in the enhancement estimate totaled $621.00 with the Angie’s List discount associated with each line item. She was also charged $80 for the mowing and the $100 for the additional work that was completed outside the scope of the original enhancement proposal. We are sorry that the member feels as though we did not meet her expectations and in the future, we will have to do a better job of clearly defining the scope of work to be completed to meet the needs and desire of our potential customer. John Seymour, owner."

John came by to see the property and provide an estimate. Allison was easy to communicate with via e-mail. There was a delay in responsiveness but they let me know this was due to the birth of their child - congrats! They provided me with the two estimates I requested - one for this one-time effort and one for on-going yard service. Both estimates were fair, but I didn't end up needing yard service. Since the one-time effort wasn't time sensitive, John worked it into his schedule and sent me an invoice once the work was complete. My renters were really happy with the results.

I signed a contract with him for lawn service, but he is not doing the job. The city may be threatening me with a citation. Before he began the work, he asked me to rate him on Angie’s List. I told him he had to do the work first and now he his not doing his job.

The experience overall wasn't horrible, but John Seymour didn't come out to look at my yard until a day or two after the date he said he would. This would have been fine except he didn't contact me to let me know he wasn't able to get to it. I only found out after I called him to ask about the estimate he was supposed to e-mail me. Once he did look at the yard he quoted me what I think was a fair price for the work, but he didn't send me a written estimate until after the work was completed. He did a great job trimming the bushes and cutting the branches out of the tree, but I couldn't see a difference in the lawn. It looked exactly the same as it did when I left for work that morning. When I told him this he was argumentative at first, but after a couple e-mails back and forth he said he was sorry I was dissatisfied with the work and didn't charge me for mowing the lawn. I don't plan on using this company again.

They were great. Competitive bid, knew what they were talking about, professional (answered the phone when I called, followed up with email, provided detailed instructions on care of the lawn), great follow up after the job. Owner was on site the day of the job, workers were very professional and nice. Overall an amazing job and a great guy to work with. To make it even better, we sold our house within a week of making the changes to the front lawn!!

I was very pleased with the work. The edging was deep which helped with a drainage problem I sometimes have when it rains heavily. John was able to suggest replacement bushes for the one that had died. This was helpful because I am not good at landscaping ideas. I was concerned that the job I was having done might not be big enough for him to consider, but this turned out not to be the case. I will use him in the future for sure.

Everything was excellent. We have asked him to look at some ideas for landscaping the backyard and he arrived on time with a big book of plants. He had good input, knew his field veyr well and was pleasant over all. I hope to work with him if his estimate meets our budget.
