SOUTHWAY BUILDERS

I've seen Southway working on multiple projects throughout Baltimore City, and it's a scary thought. I bought a gut/rehab in 2005 that was built by Southway, and it has been a nightmare since the first few months of owning the house. Long story short: their work is incredibly cheap, and the customer service is deplorable. Shortly after the purchase of my home, I noticed a brown stain on the second floor ceiling. Within a day, the ceiling actually collapsed -- to reveal a huge collection of water and a cracked and leaking ceiling sprinkler pipe. Even though all the work was still under warranty, I had to make multiple calls and levy complaints from the BBB for Southway to make the repairs. The same event has happened three additional times in the first 7 years of owning the home. Whenever I communicated with the service team, I was subjected to rude responses, yelling, and the most unthinkable of unprofessionalism. Baltimore City should ban this company. Unfortunately, they put up lots of cheap housing in low-income and working-class neighborhoods, and the homeowner is left to fight to make the company honor their own warranties. Worse, once the warranty expires, the homeowner is left to patch all their sloppy work. As of just a few weeks ago, again, a new location in the ceiling began leaking. Upon cutting through the drywall, the same type of PVC pipe is cracked and leaking. I've spent over $2000 in ceiling repairs and flooring repairs from the water damage -- not to mention costly time off work. There are a number of other signs of horrible workmanship in the house, but suffice it to say: this company should be anyone's LAST choice.
