The thermostat on water heater needed replacement Staffer said it would cost $700 to replace, or since the water heater was over 8 years old I could replace it. I told the tech I thought the charge to replace the thermostat was high but to go ahead and replace the water heater. I googled normal charge for a thermostat replacement and that was $150-$250. In the downturn everyone has lost money, my hair dresser wants to raise her rates 20%, I have sympathy, but I’m suffering loses too.

We have hired Saffer on multiple occasions. Today I heard the sound of water cascading down my stairs, and called them as soon as I got the water turned off. They had a plumber over within an hour. Joe figured out what the problem was right away, stayed on and completed the work, and even advised what I should monitor for in the way of electrical and flooring issues we might experience due to the flood. I really appreciate that Saffer has always been able to schedule appointments quickly every time I have called them.

They are wonderful, their pricing is right, and they do very good work. They give you an honest assessment and do not try to sell you what you do not need. I would highly recommend them and I will definitely use them again.

Technician came, found it was a blocked chimney, checked the boiler, found a discount for us, and left. All was professional, tidy, and informative.

Norma was kind and understanding of our concerns about water coming through our living room ceiling and was able to get someone out in just a few hours. Jack and Vince came and amazingly diagnosed the problem immediately. I thought for certain that the toilet tank drain was leaking but they knew it was the bathtub faucet and showerhead. They were able to get the needed parts and fix the problem very quickly and quietly, leaving the bathroom completely clean. We were expecting a large bill, and were shocked at how reasonable it was. Vince explained exactly what was charged and not charged for the parts and service. It was a very happy ending to a traumatic morning. I should note that we have used Saffer Plumbing and Heating in the past and were satisfied with the service. Our whole neighborhood relies on Saffer.

We called to make an appointment on Monday, January 21, for the plumber to come out and do this replacement work. The intake person, Norma, was friendly and professional, and she scheduled the appointment for that Friday, January 25. We opted for the 10-2 time window for the visit. The plumber, Jack, called us a little before 10:00 to say that he could come by a little early, if that was OK. It was fine with us, and he showed up and undertook the work. We didn't want to shop around in advance for the parts, so we explained to Norma what we were looking for and followed up with an email that she shared with the plumber in advance of the visit. Jack, the plumber showed up with good-quality replacement parts that met our requirements. We know we could have purchased these parts more cheaply on our own, but it saved us time and gas to just have the plumber "shop" for us and then do the replacement work. Though Saffer is on the expensive side, even with a coupon, we were pleased with both the parts and Jack's work.

They have done a great job, in a timely manner at a fair price.

The electrician found the problem circuit breaker and replaced it in a quick manner. He even took the time to explain the problem. Very punctual and professional.

On time and effecient

Plumber came on the SAME DAY that we called and was professional and courteous. He did a superb job of fixing two toilets for us. We are very happy with the service we received and will be using Saffer again for all of our plumbing and heating needs.

Saffer replaced our traditional water heater which vented to our chimney. The replacement had a power vent, so they installed a new vent to the outside. Unfortunately, nobody closed up the previous vent hole to the chimney. A bat eventually found its way into our house and our children needed to go to the ER to get rabies vaccinations. When I called Saffer to ask them to come close the hole they left, they weren't apologetic. At one point they said "They don't do mortar." Finally they sent someone out who plugged some concrete in the hole.

I was very pleased with them and the service technician that came too. The price was reasonable. They were punctual and over had a good experience.

The second guy did not caulk properly. I wasn't satisfied with him at all.

Everything went well - but waiting for Chris to get back with us regarding the price of bathroom tub plate. Saffer Plumbing staff were very pleasant and patient to talk with - especially Norma - she was outstanding.

On Friday, as I was quietly eating supper, and NOT turning anything different electrical on, my overhead lights in the dining room and kitchen suddenly went dark. I found a) the breaker was tripped for the #6 circuit and b) even when I turned off everything on the #6, the breaker continued to trip. That meant there was a short somewhere in the line independent of what was plugged into it or turned on in it. I called another electrical company, and the operator informed me somewhat huffily that they were closed. I asked to speak to an electrician because I wanted to confirm that the house was safe, and all I got was "We're closed." I came back to Angie's List and the second name listed was Saffer Plumbing, which had done a good job with pluming for us earlier, so I called them and clicked on their emergency service. The nice man said that their office was closed, but he would have their electrician call me back. Which Jerry did. We established that as long as the breaker was off, there was no current to the short, so it was safe. I had other circuits to light the house, and all essential service was on the good circuits. Jerry came out on Saturday, did a quick check, and I made a new appointment for Thursday. Jerry estimated it would take 3-4 hours to find the short. He and his son found it in an hour and a half. It was in an exterior wall where the BX cable probably had rusted out. He was wonderful. His company goes by Trustworthy Electricians, but is going to be under Saffer Plumbing, The cost was very reasonable.

I highly recommend. They always fix the problem quickly and have reasonable prices.

Fixed promptly, fair price, nice person

Saffer came out to determine the source of the leak and give me an estimate for the work. I think it was the owner who came out and he was on time and seemed very knowledgeable. He said he couldn't determine the source of the leak during his initial observations, but before recommending opening the wall, he recommended not using my kitchen sink for a few days to see if it was the wastepipe that was leaking. I appreciated that he tried to save me the hassle and expense of opening up the wall. They ended up having to come out a second time to open up the wall and determined that it was in fact the wastepipe that was leaking. I ended up going with an independent plumber to repair the wastepipe because Saffers price seemed kind of high but i was very happy with their diagnosis and think they would have done a good job. The price for the work was just outside my budget.
