We contacted Michael & Son in September 2023 because our basement toilet was not flushing correctly. A technician came to our residence, snaked the basement toilet, and claimed to have cleared debris from the line. We paid the $737.00 fee charged. Despite our concern that there may be a more significant issue, the technician did not further investigate and assured us that the problem was resolved. Three days after the technician's visit, our basement flooded. We immediately contacted Michael & Son, and they asked if we needed mitigation, and we affirmatively replied. We believe that Michael & Son provided this "mitigation" service because the flood occurred a few days after the technician was sent to our residence. At that time, we requested another service technician to assess the problem. That technician determined that the (outside) Clean Out was backed up and suggested that we contact our local government. Our local government also determined that the cleanout was backed up, and a drain cleanout was performed. Michael & Son acknowledged it had been determined that the plumbing problem was an off-site issue and refunded us the $737.00 fee. A short time later, we received a $4,426.00 invoice from Michael & Son for mitigation services. We disputed the charge because the 1st technician misdiagnosed the issue, leading to our basement flooding and over $23,000.00 in water damage. We maintain that our basement would not have flooded if Michael & Son had correctly diagnosed the initial problem. Michael & Son accepted no responsibility for the problem their technician created and perpetuated through misdiagnosis. We did not pay the invoice at that time. However, more than a year later (November '24), we received another $4,426.00 invoice. Ultimately, we paid the full invoice. Michael & Son acknowledged the misdiagnosis by refunding the initial $737.00 fee, and we have a voicemail receipt that the problem was an “off-site” rather than inside problem. We may choose to litigate this matter at a future date within the statute of limitations.

$411
My daughter contacted Michael and Son to replace an outlet. Although the web site states replacement outlets start at $230, she was charged $411. When I called to ask for an explanation of how a $20 part and a twenty minute service call resulted in $411, Terrill could not have been more rude and belligerent. I was told repeatedly that my daughter signed off before the work started. I asked how is a 25 year old who has never called an electrician before supposed to know what is a reasonable cost and I got the same response, that the work was approved prior to starting. If there was a legitimate reason for the higher expense, I gave Terrill the opportunity to explain but he could not, just kept repeating that the work was approved before starting. Without justification of the amount charged, leads me to believe they took advantage of a younger customer and this company cannot be trusted.

Charged me $617 (after discount) for an $80 circuit panel surge protector. Took them two minutes to do. Imagine trying to convince me the hidden cost is of the quality of their labor. I have been told by a community electrician that these employees earn 30% commission of their sales, which is why they often "suggest" products or services as part of their call. Sent two refund requests and to take it back, and they said whatever they needed to get me off the phone and have not responded since. I will never buy anything else from this company again. Their "inspection plan" is no more than getting their foot in your door to make more money off repairs and sales. I have had to reschedule multiple service calls because no-one showed up within their 6 hour window with no effort on their end to contact me about it. This happened with their HVAC inspector as well as their plumbers. I get in touch with their dispatcher for their lack of timeliness.. supporting small businesses from now on!

We've been using Michael & Son for a few years. We had the premium service contract for 2 zones. Our HVAC went down so I called in for service. Despite the service contract, we were told it would be OVER A WEEK (10 days) before we could get service! RIDICULOUS! We had 2 new AC systems put in with a humidifier on the unit downstairs. We just found out that the humidifier was never hooked up into the water line. It was never working, BUT we were told the filter needed to be changed. We paid for work that was never needed (filter change) plus the poor quality of installation. Every time a tech comes for service and makes changes on the thermostat, they never reset the settings to where we had them before they leave. Find a better contractor!

My appointment was between eight and 10 and the technician came at 12:30. That was after several calls to see if he was going to actually show up. When he did show up he was very nice and very professional. The estimate was $933 to replace two carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. The work would’ve taken about two hours and then Price seemed very unreasonable to me. so I did not engage them because I think they’re Prices are unreasonably high. I did pay them their required dispatch fee.

We had no issues with our new heating system until Michael and Son's services tuned it up for the first time in October 2022. Because the technician could not find any issue with our heating unit, he tried to sell us a membership for future services. We did not wish to do so. Soon after the tune-up, we had problems adjusting the temperature until the heating system stopped working on November 24th, Thanksgiving Day. We called Michael and Son, and the same technician showed up after several hours. He stated that he wanted to be alone. Still, my husband followed him downstairs. He noticed that, without any inspection, the technician removed the hot surface ignitor, claimed it was broken, and replaced it with another part. However, he refused to give us the “broken” part and claimed that there was another issue with our heating unit, which required us to purchase a part for $900. He added that none of these could have happened if we had purchased a membership. When we refused to order the $900 parts, he threatened to remove the ignitor he had already installed. He left our house only when I called the shift manager and reported the situation. Due to the nature of our situation and the cold weather, and we were hosting our guests for Thanksgiving, we had no choice but to pay a $729.14 bill for such a suspicious service we received. The business has yet to respond to my emails and phone calls about our complaint.

Extremely deceiving organization!!! Installation was very neat, clean and professional...Although not the case with regards to when the compressor failed after year two and air handler failed at year three. It was extremely disappointing to call Joscelyn on 3 different occasions and continue to hear the same excuse of "Your unit is under warranty unfortunately the only person capable of confirming what is covered in Travis and he will not be in today". After three attempts I asked for a direct line to any available managers to further discuss this situation. I was then told there are no direct lines you will need to call back tomorrow on the main line. So very unprofessional installing faulty products and avoiding warranty will not be used again. I feel taken advantage of all for a profit...

We called Michael & Son Services to have them come out and repair a leaky water main. They said they would come out and fix the pipe and come by the following day without a service charge. We would of course need to pay for the repair. We agreed - however, they didn't even send a technician out. We found out when we called them hours later when that they wouldn't do the work because the hole was already dug - a fact we explained to them several times when we made the appointment and that they led us to believe wouldn't be a problem. We took time off work to be here for this appointment, and we still have water spilling into our yard. It's a waste of water, and it's impacting our water bill. We could've had a different company come out and fix it by now if they had just been up front with us from the start. This company left a disabled veteran out to dry, committed to work they couldn't actually do, then bailed on it without communicating properly or even showing up for the work. This cost me hundreds of dollars personally in both time and water, and now we are stuck scrambling to find someone who can come by at almost 5pm on a weeknight. This company is beyond unprofessional and they do not care about you or your home. Go do business literally with anyone else you can find in your area.

Jesse was very knowledgeable and professional. I had my wife and 2 sons, one being 6 months, in a house with no heat. He realized the emergency and quickly came out to fix our gas leak. Because of him, we were able to get the heat back on without much fuss.

I received on May 25, 2021. I requested a full system evaluation and the technician came to the property and performed additional work that I had not authorized. He also disclose the conversation that I had with him regarding the system to the new home owners without my permission. And gave the new owners the impression that I had lied about the status of the air conditioning system. Because of this conversation that Technician chose to have with the new owners it caused a great deal of confusion and problems for me on my side. I have been a customer for more than five years. I have done hundreds of dollars of work through your company at my various properties. I have never experienced a technician who was blatantly rude to me and performed work without my authorization. The technician‘s conversation with the new owners caused a heated situation so I agreed to pay for the charges for the leak test to deescalate the situation. But I would like a full refund of the leak detection charge ($288.75). I also noticed that the signature on the permission to perform the leak test is not my signature but Technician‘s. I was never presented with an opportunity to accept or decline this service. To elaborate a little more on the situation the technician told the new owners of the property that the HVAC system had a leak and that he had already informed me of this. This was not true. The technician did not know if the system had a leak because he had not performed a leak detection test at that time. When he came previously to evaluate the system he detected that it was low on refrigerant. I instructed him to replace the missing refrigerant and test the system was working effectively. He did stated that it did not appear that the refrigerant was leaking out at that time. Sometime after that (about a week) the system stop working again. At that time I called Michael and Sons to have the system evaluated so that I could make arrangements with the new owner and adjust our contract to cover the cost of repairs. When the technician arrived he proceeded to tell the new owners of the property that the system had a previous leak and that I refused to fix it. This was not true and even if that was the situation it would’ve been highly inappropriate for the technician to talk to someone else about any conversation that I had with them. I’ve come to expect a certain level of professionalism from Michael and Sons and this encounter fell far short of that. On the day of service I called the company and explain the situation and they said they would look into it and get back to me in a few days. No one contacted me and after a couple of weeks I emailed customer service and received a response that they would do nothing to resolve my situation. Save your money go with a different company.

I used them twice. They are a hit & miss. First guy was very good and he charged a fair price for a leak repair and a separate faucet installation. The faucet failed a year later and we asked them to come and replace it again. Different plumber came, and the quote he gave me was 50% higher than what I had paid them 6 months ago. When I pointed that out, he first declined that's what had happened but later agreed to match the original price I had paid, telling me that he may hear from his manager about that. The experience really left a bad taste in my mouth, almost like a used car shopping experience. They also tried to sell a annual service plan for $389, which gives you a 10% discount on repairs. If the plumbers are making up their own prices on the spot, what difference does a 10% discount even mean? Also I called them to get a quote to replace a light fixture on our vaulted ceiling. It's a pretty standard job, and I already have a quote from another electrician. They told me that they cannot give me even a ballpark quote on the phone, and they would need to send someone and charge me a $69 fee just to give me a quote. That's a no for me! Great customer service btw. If you need an emergency repair, they get back to you very fast. That's probably the only good thing about him. If I can get the first plumber every time, I would still hire them but with this experience I cannot recommend them to anyone.

They did the inspection and wrote a report on the work done by Ebenezer Roofing and told me that everything was in a mess and never got done at all, Michael & Sons told me to call Ebenezer, ask them to come back and fix the electricals because everything was just hanging around and no work has been done at all. I am still dealing with them on things that Ebenezer did not do.

We had a long 3 week issue with the company. On June 22 we had an appointment for a routine check up from 4-6pm. At 2pm I got a call that they wouldn't be able to make it due to high emergency calls (frustrating but understandable) We were then rescheduled for a routine tune up for July 1. On July 1, a tech came out and said we needed a new capacitor, and recommended refrigerant to be put into the unit before we run our heat in the winter. We paid for the capacitor and the tech returned on July 2 to replace the old one. One July 7 our AC unit was not holding a cold charge. We called to get someone to come out to look at it since we had the tune up and they said no one can come out until Sunday the 12th or we could pay the $160 emergency fee for someone to come out on Friday...How is that same day (emergency) service that they advertise? We took the Sunday appointment, but called back on Friday to ask for a emergency service. They put us on the books and dispatch told us that we shouldn't be charged an emergency fee because it was a follow up...different inforamtion from what the dispatch on Tuesday told up...so we could have made an appointment for that day. Turns out, the tech couldn't make it out on Friday so we were bumped to Saturday morning. On saturday the tech came out and replaced the already replaced capacitor and went to leave; we asked if she put in the refrigerant we asked for and she said no, I"ll go do that. She put in the refrigerant, charged us, told us to run the system all day and left. Within two hours our AC pipes were frozen. Our tech gave us her number to use in case we had any more issues. We called and texted at 1:30pm and she said she'd be back to look at it. We followed up at 6 and we didn't hear back from her the rest of the day. So we called dispatch again and they set us up for another emergency tech for Sunday between 6pm-11:59pm. We finally got the emergency tech on a Sunday night at 9:30 and he was amazing and thorough. Was very concerned at the work the original tech did but filled our refrigerant properly and double checked the entire system. We are very thankful for him and his service. I was told to reach out to Maurice Noori, the customer service manager, who only replied "thank you" to my email. I spoke to a manager on July 13th to discuss the issues and he cut me off to try and push an Air Service to make up for the poor customer service. While I did accept it at the time, Michael and Son is more than welcome to take that away since I"m writing a negative review. I've used Michael and Son for the past three years to service our AC unit each year. The fact that it wasn't one person who dropped the ball but MANY, says enough for me.

Always a pleasure with Michael and Sons, which is why I continue to use them for any electric, HVAC, or plumbing issue over the past five years of living in Baltimore. Technician called me ahead of time, wore boot covers, and wore a KN-95 when he came inside without me asking him to. Personable and professional.

The carbon monoxide detector in our house started going off while Michael & Son was installing an air conditioning unit on Sept. 10, 2018. I took the detector to one of the company's employees and asked if anything they were doing could have set it off. The employee said no and that the batteries in the detector were probably just dying. About an hour after Michael & Son left, I called the fire department because the carbon monoxide detector was still beeping. The firefighters also detected carbon monoxide and had to use a fan to clear the gas from the house. Unable to determine the source of the gas and unsure what the workers from Michael & Son had touched, the firefighters told me to ask the company to send someone back over to ensure that all of the appliances in the utility closet where its employees were working were operating properly. On Sept. 12, Michael & Son offered to refund us $400. However, on Sept. 13, the company revoked the offer unless it could be shown that Michael & Son was responsible for the release of carbon monoxide. That a Michael & Son employee disregarded warnings of a hazard that ultimately threatened a customer's health apparently didn't warrant compensation.
Response from Michael & Sons Service Inc

The electrician who came was responsive and knowledgeable, and also suggested how I could save some money, while getting problems fixed. He had to work on four floors - from the attic to the basement - to find and fix everything, but got all circuits back and eliminated shorts. He also rewired some old outlets to convert properly to 3-wire grounded. The only excluded problem was a shorted thermostat to furnace, which was caused by renovation in basement that nailed a board on top of t-stat wire. That was cheaper to rewire myself for $30 instead of paying what would have been ~$400. The electrician explained that to me, so I did it myself.
