range in Hunt Valley, MD to move a safe into my home in Canton. Before ordering
the safe, I had Jim come out to perform measurements to ensure the safe would
fit in the desired location. Jim assured me that the safe would fit and we drew
up a work order to have the safe shipped to my home. I ordered the safe, and
three months later, it was delivered.
To level set - the safe in question cost in excess of $2500. In addition, I
paid an extra $400 for premium gloss coat paint. Fast forward to the move - the
safe was successfully brought in through a kitchen window into my home. At this
point, the safe was supposed to be moved down one flight of stairs into the
basement. It was quickly learned that the safe would not fit down the desired
stairwell that Jim had previously measured.
I was left with two options:
1) pay the movers to move the safe back through the kitchen window and pay to
have the safe shipped back to Florida from where I ordered it
2) have the movers smash two of my walls so that the safe would fit
I ordered this safe with the understanding that Jim knew how to use a ruler. I
trusted their advice when I was told that I could go ahead and order the safe
as it would fit in the desired location. At this point, having no alternative
options, I authorized the movers to remove the baseboard, molding and crack drywall
to get the safe down the stairway. They eventually got the safe to the
basement, but not without breaking two other walls and scratching the safe
completely. I now have three damaged walls and a completely scarred safe. I
ended up paying $455 to have the safe moved and gave the movers an even $500
for a tip.
In the end, I will now be out another couple hundred dollars having drywall and
trim fixed throughout my kitchen and basement. While moving the safe, they also
damaged a wall that had nothing to do with the narrow staircase.
In the end, I'm more than upset with everything. I now have a damaged safe and
house. This is inexcusable and the EXACT reason why you have someone come
measure before starting a move. I have made Jim the owner aware of everything
that transpired and have still not received so much as a response or apology.
I would caution anyone who is considering using this company to think twice
about it. If you have something valuable that needs to be moved - stick with
the professionals and choose an alternate company.
