Things started off very well. Then I realized that I was paying more for Branco "on the side" with his alleged group of workers than I was if I had gone through his company. The place will not pass lead inspection (although Branco claimed he was a specialist in lead) because the whole floor in the basement is not covered. The tile work on the basement floor includes tiles that are not secured to the floor by the glue. The bamboo floor was not put in as a "floating floor" per my directions and per the directions on the box, and therefore it needs to either be ripped up entirely or a lot of work needs to be done to shorten it as it is too tight. That will also mean that the shoe molding (quarter round) will have to be removed! The contract said "fix bathroom" but the tile was installed poorly, the linen closet door was not painted, and the inside of the linen closet was not painted (and obviously needed it). The ceiling fan moves as though unsteady. The new kitchen counter was cut in three spots (Branco denied his man did this) and the mosaic tile has smears of grout on it. The shower head is not covered properly. The paint on the mantle piece does not appear to have been painted with a primer before enamel. The bill included what a regular carpet installer should have had: a knife!
Description of Work: Branco came at the recommendation of a realtor. Branco handed me his card, which did not include a license number (but he said he was licensed for sales) and he it had a lovely photo of a renovated room on it. I asked if he had done that room, and he said he had (another lie--it was a scene bought from Vista Print). I showed him the work, including covering the basement floor with vinyl tile because there was lead paint on the floor I wanted to cover. He flashed me a card (at a distance) , saying it was his certification as a lead remover. (He is not on the list in this state; I don't know about other states.) He was very sweet and smooth, and he told me he could do the work. I showed him the bamboo (click-in) that was to be installed and other supplies. He came back another day with a licensed home provider, who said Branco worked for him, and he could do the job fo5 $4500. I said I simply could not afford that, because I had been paying for lots of renovations, including a new kitchen, much of a new bah being installed and bamboo flooring. Branco then met with me another date and gave me a price of $2500, which was much better than the price when working for the company. Unfortunately, I signed before I realized the brief bill said "supply by owner" for materials, so they were EXTRA. Branco claimed he had eleven (11) men working for him but I only saw one very well tatooed guy with a chain from his waist (and I mentioned this appearance to the worker). Branco claimed he had a carpet installer and also a licensed electrician and a licensed plumber. I never met them and don't know about their true credentials, if any. Branco billed me $1166.55 for supplies, and $700 more for labor. He also texted me that he wanted another $400 for carpet, but I did not pay this.
