They did a wonderful job, as always. They are the only people I have used for chimney work, and will continue to use them as needed in the future. Tim had been to my house to do a sweep, and inspected the chimney for any issues. He recommended the mortar repair, as there were signs of aging including cracked mortar joints. I held off for awhile before booking the repairs. Then in the winter, I noticed signs of leakage around my chimney, inside the house. The diagnosis was that it was due to the cracked mortar (my roof is practically brand new, and in good shape). Lesson learned: do not ignore the chimney repairs!
Tim came to the house and wrapped the chimney in a tarp, which prevented water intrusion until the repairs could be done. The job spanned 3 days due to the intervals needed for the tasks, and it was completed last week. The chimney looks brand new. The photos taken show a very smooth finish to the mortar, clean bricks (no more algae or other crud on them), and the job is overall very professionally done.
B&H does awesome work, and they are friendly and professional always.
Difficult mid roof location for chimney required a cherry picker parked on my front lawn. Removed crumbling stucco and crown, applied lathe and two coats of stucco to match texture on the rest of the house. The house is a historic area so requirements
were stringent. I was very pleased with the results.
We had stainless steel caps fabricated and installed by another firm at about half the price Band H quoted, along with a replacement crown to protect the chimneys while we decided what we were going to do.
A year went by, we decided to move forward and because the work is technically complex, we called Band H back out.
The job was theirs to lose and they lost it. I am sure that their work would have been outstanding, but they tried to sell my wife on replacing the crown that had just been replaced because they stated it was cracked. I got home from work - went up on the roof and inspected the crown -no cracks.
I don't mind paying for quality work, I do object to firms padding their jobs with unnecessary elements.
Tim also walked through the prioritization of the issues with us. He noted that our chimney was still structurally sound; we were not at risk of it falling down or dropping bricks into our driveway, so we had some time to space the work out over a couple years if we needed. In the end, we decided to get everything taken care of at once.
Tim, Anna, Justin did the work. They were very friendly and professional the entire time they were here. (The repairs took approximately one week to complete.) They did a fantastic job of cleaning up after themselves. There's no trace of dust from all the grinding out of cement. They were even great about accommodating some contractors coming through for an emergency repair or two that we needed during the time Band H Chimneys was working.
The firebox looks great since the work was done, as does the visible part of the work done on the chimney. We've had a couple rains since the work was done, and so far, there's no evidence of any leak down into the chimney or furnace flue. Many thanks to Band H Chimneys -- I'll definitely be calling them again for any similar work in future.
I opted for the exterior work only, and did not choose to replace the flue lining (as I do not plan to create fires at this time). While the work I chose to have done was less costly, I was not made to feel like I was and quot;less of a customerand quot;: I was given a date when the work could be done, and they did it all on schedule. I received a call when they were coming to the house, and when they were leaving (as I was at work). They provided photos of the completed work. The brick that was cracked was removed and replaced with a good one, which to me was remarkable especially since the brick was half-way down the chimney. I think most people would have just put some sort of sealer in the crack.
Overall, they do a professional, thorough job, are honest, and very pleasant. Everyone I spoke with, either in-person or on the phone, was great.
When I returned, Tim was pleasant and got to work right away. Upon completion, he provided photos and recommendations on problem areas that we may want to address in the future along with estimates for each item.
I will definitely use them again.
In contrast, when B+H came out, they inspected our chimney, took photos of it, and patiently answered our questions. We received by email, from their office, a professional price quote which included the photos. We took some time to decide, but when we got back in touch with the office to schedule the job, we were treated professionally and politely. The day of the job, Tim came to our door, let us know he would complete the job, and he did so in a timely manner. He also took before and after photos to show us exactly what he did. We were happy with the neatness and quality of his work. The repair did not require anything complicated, and we appreciated that he did not push unnecessary repairs or services. Afterwards, the office sent us by email the paid invoice along with the before and after photos.
