Quality of work was good, with the possible exception of a 'moving' tub base (never clear if it was Youngers problem or that of the tile layer). The whole job took longer than it should - their workmen (presumably sub-contractors) didn't turn up every day.

The construction concept started as a simple addition and over time grew into a much larger undertaking. Prior to beginning the project, we worked with Younger Construction over a period of 2-3 months to define exactly what we wanted and went through a number of design iterations. When we settled on a "final" plan we were presented with an itemized quotation, a set of drawings, and a payment schedule before signing a contract. Work began within 1-2 months and progressed to completion over a 4-5 month period. During that time there were numerous challenges related to weather, including record rainfall in November, a pre-Christmas blizzard, and finally, "snowmagheddon" (back-to-back February blizzards). Work progressed on schedule despite these events. During the project we requested changes and additions to the work, some of which were unforeseen at the beginning (such as being able to visualize how terrible our existing grading was with all the precipitation) and some of which were opportunities (such as adding a fireplace, siding the entire house to match the addition, and building a deck). Younger Construction worked with us throughout this process and we were quite pleased with the ideas they presented and the quality of the work. We felt that the pricing was reasonable and they allowed some flexibility in making the final payment. Overall, I could not have been more pleased with the outcome and have received numerous compliments on the work.

I contacted Younger Construction during the summer of 2010 to request an estimate for a family room addition to our 2400 sq ft split level home. The original requirement was to provide additional "living space" and for a bathroom on the main level, and a rough-in for a deck. After a few meetings/discussions with the contractor and his designer we were provided with a detailed and fairly-priced quote. We were included in subsequent meetings with the contractor and his primary subcontractors to better define the scope of the work and felt very comfortable with the process. We were provided with amended estimates before any work was initiated. During the course of the next few months, prior to ground-breaking, the scope was expanded to include a gas fireplace, which required some redesign of the cathedral ceiling to make the room appear symmetrical. These changes were accommodated flexibly and the differential costs were reasonable. The work started just before the onset of rain and snow storms that affected much of the Washington DC metropolitan area (10 inches of rain and three major snowstorms), and the conditions were far less than idea. Nevertheless, Younger Construction made excellent progress and completed the project in less than four months. We know of others with similar additions that were started at about the same time and still aren't completed. We requested small changes as the work progressed; these changes were incorporated and didn't unreasonable affect the bottom line. In summary, Younger Contruction maintained a high degree of professionalism and transparency and delivered a very high-quality and economical product which we enjoy very much.
