FED EX

I came to the conclusion that FedEx does not know how to deliver packages to a condominium building in Italy. Here is why.  I dropped an international package to their office in Columbia, MD. I paid by credit card the amount requested $117.61 for a guarantee delivery on Wednesday. The associate in Italy went to the building door at 6:58PM on Tuesday and obviously the main door was closed. So instead of using good judgment and calling the recipient using the phone number provided, he decided that nobody was there and took the package back to your offices. The associate came back a day later at the same time 6:46PM and, I assume, was expecting to have a different outcome!!  Despite that I had called on Wednesday AM stating to use the phone
number and even provided the intercom number. But noooo, that would have being too much work. So Wednesday night the package went back to the FedEx Offices!  On Thursday, I called Italy FedEx line (at my cost) to reiterate that unless they call that number or use the intercom number provided, they will never deliver the package in the evening. I suggested they try the morning. Finally, talking to them in Italian, my instruction went through and the package was delivered at 6:57PM on Thursday!  To add pain to injury, I received a week later an invoice for $133.96, because they added a delivery fee for Saturday pick up!!!  I had paid by credit card (did not go through) and I had dropped the package to their offices. The extra fee was dropped when I called (once again).
I was told through this ordeal that it is their policy not to use the number provided and even to tell their  drivers not to use it.  If they deliver packages in the evening at any of high-rise in any city in the world they will find the door closed and any reasonable person given the task to deliver a package would immediately think that the best way would be to call the number provided. For $117 we would expect smart drivers and clear understanding on how to best and most efficiently deliver packages.I was warned, but too late, by Italian friends not to use FedEx for any delivery to residence. Now I learned by lesson.  Never again!! 
I did contact FedEx in writing but I have not received a response to my concerns, just that they have addressed the extra charges for Saturday pickup.

There is not too much to dislike. It is average.
