I will never rent from Extra Space Storage again, nor will I recommend them to anyone.  There are MANY reasons:
1.  they provided NO service in the 2 years and 9 months I rented that facility
2.  during that time they raised my rates more than 24% and when I questioned it they told me it was based on the % occupancy.
3.  the space was filled with dirt, dust, leaves, spiders and cobwebs, no matter how many times I tried to clean it out.  I had tarps over everything, which did not keep out the spiders
4.  due to the low entry lip and the location, during rainstorms water flowed into the unit, damaging the legs of some of the furniture
5.  they allowed a car to be stored in the unit above me without their ensuring that the appropriate precautions were taken (i.e. draining the oil or putting protection on the floor under it), so oil leaked through the floor onto a wood cabinet
6.  there is no lighting or electricity in or near the unit, so it isn't feasible to go there at night
7.  twice when I went to put empty boxes in the dumpsters, I found that the staff had locked them before closing time
I notified them via email more than a week in advance that I would be vacating the storage unit;  and notified them again on 11/28 that the unit was cleaned out.  Since my bank had already sent the payment for the following month, I told them that the payment would be cancelled and not to cash the check.  Despite that, I received 3 notices of payment due, then OVERDUE, then a cancelled check fee, and finally a call from the manager at the facility asking where my payment was. 
So in summary, this is a sub-standard facility, their rate increase policy is obnoxious, and their internal communication is non-existent.
