Dave and his team were excellent. Great communication, reasonable pricing, responsive to issues/concerns, assisted in design, thought of details and has been responsive and supportive after the job was complete. Would highly recommend!

Overall, the quality of the work is excellent but, I downgraded this review to a B because the tile guy made an error. The error is small but, I know it is there and permanent. Dave's used a combination of his own staff and sub-contractors (electrical, tile guy and counter-top company). At the start of the project, Dave's took great care to cover all of the hard-wood floors with protective coverings and moved furniture to the center of the room and covered it. It was disruptive but, we really appreciated the care he put in to protect our stuff. At the end of each day, the crew always cleaned up as best as they could. One day, our Building Engineer was checking on the work before Dave's crew arrived and he commented that the level of cleanliness was a sign of a good contractor. I agreed. The only negative I can say about Dave's (and it really is a small point) is that at least during my project he seemed to be running around to many other projects making things seem disorganized (thus the slightly lower rating on Responsiveness and Punctuality. The project was still completed in the overall stated time frame but, maybe with just a little more organization, he might have shaved a day or two off the total project.

The work was amazing. While there were some small problems with scheduling to start with (they were very busy when we were using them), we couldn't recommend the work itself any higher. Everything came out great, and they were very responsive once the work began. The floors especially came out incredible, and they were able to pull up old work carpet and refinish the hardwood floors underneath (saving us money). Any recommendations they gave weren't the most expensive option; they were the best option. We were very happy with their pricing and service overall.

We agreed upon a starting time daily between 8:30 and 9.  They always arrived before 9 a.m. and typically worked until about 7 p.m.
They did a terrific job of cleaning up.  As you might imagine, the complete remodel of my bathroom created a lot of dust.  However, Dave's workers took care to maintain my carpets in the condition they found them.
Dave was there for the first day and the last day of the project.  In between, he checked in with me daily to find out how I thought things were going.  The project lasted 10 working days - which is exactly the amount of time he predicted.
His workers are courteous and trustworthy - which I appreciate in light of the fact that we work full-time jobs.
I find Dave's pricing to be very reasonable.  He has been terrific to me and I always feel like he is charging me a fair price.
I would highly recommend him.

Dave came to do the job - was distracted by constantly answering phone and dealing with an employee who didn't come to work.  Complained that the install was harder than expected.  Got it up but claimed he had no spackling to repair ceiling so he could repaint which was part of job.  We provided spackling which he applied but said it needed to dry and he would need to come back out to paint ceiling.  He left with chandelier he took down - he wanted and we gave to him! Then we get a bill that includes painting of ceiling - when asked, his office said the chandelier was harder to put up and there would be an additional cost to paint ceiling.  Bill will be paid for work he didn't do but he will not be back.  Very disappointing, very unprofessional.
Response from Dave's Floor & More
"s of this writng, we have not received payment for work done at the jobsite. Dave went to look at the job request and gave a quote for repairing a door lock, replacing the owner's chandelier, painting the ceiling if necessary and repairing a dead bolt in the laundry room. When Dave did the work quoted on Dec 14, the chandelier to be installed turned out to be very difficult to do and took extra time. On that day, the owner asked Dave to remove the medallion where the original chandelier hung and to patch the ceiling which he did. This work was not included in the original quote or in the estimate. Because the ceiling had to be patched, Dave informed the owner that he would have to come back on a 2nd trip to paint given drying time allowance for the ceiling. He asked the owner if she would pay for the work done and completed that day and she refused and replied that she would call us back to arrange a date for painting and then pay us. We did not hear back from the owner. We sent over the invoice on Dec 23. She then replied with dates for us to return. When we informed her that the 2nd trip (which she was told would be needed) would cost $125 extra (the cost of the original invoice was for $275 and did not include the extra work done) due to it being a 2nd trip, The customer replied that they would take care of it themselves. This is the first time, via Angie's List, that we are hearing how unsatisfied the customer is. We strive for 100% customer satisfaction but given that extra work was done at no charge, and we had to prompt the customer to hear back, We do not feel that $275 is an unfair price or that it is unfair to charge for a 2nd trip. The review is unfair and rather harsh given the work was done and we had to follow up with the customer for payment on work that was done . Also as noone but Dave was present in the room where work was being done, we are confused about the comment regarding phone calls especially about a worker not showing up as it was a one man job Dave did in the afternoon. Dave does not take calls when he is working. As of this writing, payment has not been received. All of the work was done professionally and correctly."

Dave Friedlander and his construction crews were very punctual, hardworking and completed everything in a high quality way. We had a  basement flood. Dave provided the best price and had people on-site working almost every day for 2.5 weeks to complete everything in record time. He is very knowledgeable about all aspects of home remodeling so his recommendations were well received. My wife and I are so pleased with how everything looks. The floor team and demolition/rebuilding/painting team were a please to watch as they really were experts. I have been using Dave's services for 25 years and 2 houses. He has done a nice job with carpeting and installing hardwood floors in the past. Dave was available by phone any time there was a question or concern.

The whole process from the start of demo to completion took 5 weeks, and would have been about 4 if our condo allowed contractors to work weekends and past 6 pm.  We were impressed by the artistry of Dave's cabinet installer and his tile guy, and the rest of the team did a great job, too.  It was especially helpful that Dave assumed full responsibility for every aspect of the work and made himself available to resolve any concerns that arose.  He works with very professional, courteous and resourceful people and did not declare a task to be "done" until he and we were satisfied.

I was very pleased at the end of the job, generally speaking, with the quality of the workmanship. The floors look very nice, as does the paint job and the refreshed downstairs bathroom. Dave used a more high-end flooring than some of the other firms from whom I had estimates. I had some small issues with the work--the floors sound more hollow than I thought they would, there is a soft spot in one place where the underfloor was uneven, and the workers put down caulk on the vanity that looked dirty from the first day--probably because the vanity had some dirt on it when the caulk was put down. And I didn't ask for caulking.  But my main problem was that  I expected that Dave would serve more as a general contractor coordinating the work and that part really fell down. Dave uses a lot of differently skilled workers, and while I thought the workers were good at what they were doing, they did not always know what they were supposed to be doing at my house. For example, our bathroom had molding, and Dave suggested it would look better with other molding. However, when the painter came, he had not been told to purchase molding and none had been purchased. I found that kind of thing frustrating.  Further, I often was told that someone would show up to do part of the job, but they sometimes came late or not at all.  In effect, I stayed home for most of a month, sometimes on days when I could have left to do errands, just because I often did not know if I needed to stay home to let in his workers.  I thought communication was not good between Dave and the workers. He did not always know the status of the job. I finally began emailing him a punch list and calling every day to apprise him of progress.  At the time, his firm was doing 17 jobs, so that might have explained some of the issues. Also, this job involved floors, plumbing, etc.--not just putting down a floor.

This renovation was doomed from the start!  Dave's son and two workers came to demo the walk-in closet.  It was a California Closet system and rather than taking it apart piece by piece they tore it off the wall causing it to be damaged, not keeping anything together for later use. The closet system was moved about without regard to its delicate nature thru out the entire renovation by almost every worker.  Dave was pretty much non-existant when he needed to be here - he missed appointments he made to pick out tile (wife in car wreck) - Workers would show up and not know what to do - they would run out of materials -  he hired a "painter" who had no idea how to strip wallpaper tho he had been a "painter" for over 20 years. The painter made the biggest mess I have ever seen - he ended up covering the entire first floor of our house with a thick layer of dust.  Even his "ace" painter did a lousy job and we needed to have another painter finish it right.  The plumber, who is a personal friend of Dave's, had to be replaced because we refused to let him come back in the house he was so bad!  The plumber had visitors while he was working - dubious looking - why are these strangers in my house when they're not workers?  The plumber fell thru the dining room ceiling adding to the hole he cut to install the tub.  Installing the tub was a nightmare and the plumber dropped his measuring tape on the tub (a $3,000 Kohler Escale) which left a ding in the bottom.  He continually complained and was just the most non-professional person I've ever met.  Dave later hired another plumber to finish the job.  Again, Dave is mostly nonexistent during the time he really should have been here.  Personal and family troubles plagued Dave and while we sympathized with what was going on he should have handled everything much better - we even stopped work for a month so he could get things in order - didn't happen.  The hardwood floors went in ok - they pounded so h****** the floors putting them in a light fell on the main floor and nail pops have come out where there were none before.  The stairs, what a mess - they cut off the bull nose from the existing steps and put a new tread over them - they were stained, two hours later the polyurethane was put on - it bubbled up! They sanded them down and stained them again - two hours later they put on polyurethane again - guess what - it bubbled up again - turns out the stain needed to set 24 hours and then the finish be put on - we had to hire someone else to finish it right.  We ended up telling Dave to leave and we would finish the
project the best we could - Overall, we wish we had never set eyes on this guy and his workers.  I would never recommend him to anyone who wants a smooth renovation - Dave's idea of doing something the right way is to do it three or four times till you get it right - too frustrating - please do yourself a favor and pass on Dave's Floor and More (more heartburn than you can imagine)

Dave was a pleasure to work with. He is a professional who knows a lot about floors. He got right back to me when I called him. He visited the house almost immediately after contact and provided a very competitive estimate within days.  He set up an appointment for the following week. And his crew did a great job of installing the flooring that we had bought. They installed 850 sq. ft. -- an entire second floor -- in a single day.  On the coldest day Maryland has seen in long time the team of installers worked non-stop to get the floor down. And they were good about fixing a few pesky problems with the stair nose and duct work vents that had worried us. It took them about nine hours minus a short break for lunch. They were superb. We are going to have them install the downstairs in a few months. I highly recommend Dave's Floor & More.

The painting work was good but Dave's crew took 45 days to finish a 7 day job. Dave made excuse after excuse (claimed he had a terminal illness) for why he was not personally showing up to manage and oversee the work his folks were doing and he didn't show up until payment was due. The carpet he put on our floors is now buckling in several places and we now have to find someone to relay it. The most disturbing issue was the wainscotting work THAT DAVE PERSONALLY DID! He nailed through a wall that had pipes behind the drywall that we didn't discover until several months later when water from the leaking pipes ended up in my basement. When the plumber came and pulled off the wainscotting and drywall, 17 nails were driven through our pipes (thanks Dave).

Dave's craftsmanship and his company of talented carpenters did amazing things on a tight budget. My husband and I moved into our first home together and Dave quickly remodeled the entire house within 2 weeks. He removed all the old carpets and replaced it with new, beautiful and affordable carpets. They had to replace all the drywall downstairs due to a previous flood in the house. They took all the tiles that existed in the kitchen and replaced it with new ones. They repainted the entire house and were very patient with me when I had last minute changes to the color scheme.
I will continue to hire Dave's Floors and More for every future project, as well as praise his name to all of my friends. His crew is top notch and they will leave you smiling.
