Very well. Ben and his crew were all extremely professional and did an outstanding job repairing our roof in approximately 1 & 1/2 days. We feel much more comfortable now heading into this winter and I would highly recommend considering Connell for any roofing project.

Let me start by saying that I work in the quality assurance business, and am thus probably one of the more nitpicky customers that a home improvement contractor could encounter. I notice everything. Ben and his team exceeded my expectations in every way possible, from the start of the estimating process right through to the last minute of work on my roof. The quality of their work was impeccable. It was easy for me to tell that this crew worked with very close attention to detail (as I watched them work, I could see them triple checking everything they did). Both the owner and crew happily explained what they were doing and answered questions while the work was being done. The job site was thoroughly cleaned up every single day, and crew took special care to avoid damaging any of our landscaping. On one day, they saw that we were setting up to host a BBQ that night, and without even being asked, removed their equipment for the night just so things would look as nice as possible for our guests. Perhaps most impressively, the owner personally visited the site frequently throughout the job, going up on the roof to make sure everything was up to his high standards, and did so again at the end of the job. Based on their commitment to craftsmanship, their professionalism, and the value I received for the price paid, I highly recommend Connell Roofing.

Ben and his team showed up to give me a quote and walked me through every aspect of the project. The windows were measured and ordered in the same day and once they came in they were installed quickly and professionally. Throughout installation the team was polite and cleaned up well after installation was finished. I will absolutely work with this company again for my next project.

When they cleaned the gutters, they inspected the two roofs and noticed I had moss growing in some spots. It was suggested that if I had a zinc treatment applied in the early spring, this should give my a few additional years before I need to replace the roofs .Mr. Connell spoke with me, about this and looked at my house on google maps. He was able to give me a rough estimate of the cost involved in the zinc treatment and of new roofs. He was sensitive to the costs to me and this I appreciated. I will contact him for the zinc treatment.
I have used Connell Roofing for gutter cleaning for quite a few years and will continue to in the future. Very reliable and responsive to his customers.

I have done business with Connell Roofing for 50 years and 3 generations of Connells. In addition, to gutter clean outs they have replaced parts of my roof and two years ago came whenever needed to scrape away the ice before it did damage to my house. I have never been anything but extremely pleased with the service.

FYI - Connell is a 3 generation, 50-year old family company currently run by the 3rd generation, with William Connell, Jr. having backed off to semi-retirement. Top line - "Connell is great!" That was my take when Connell's on-site, hands-on general manager, Eric Pinto, first visited. Among other things, he had a fabulous idea that none of the other 6 bidding contractors had - i.e. to improve winter attic ventilation by adding a switch to force the summer attic cooling fan on during ice dam periods. They were also the only bidder who agreed to clean our gutters twice a year at a reasonable price. But the "Connell is great" line actually came from an employee at the Needham Dept. of Public Works, where I called for a reference check. I got the standard, "We're not supposed to recommend, etc, but then he couldn't resist saying, "Connell is great!" Our thinking, exactly. I wondered how their crew was going to handle the steep roof angles, especially on high side of the house. Then after they started my wife came in and said, "These guys are using mountain climbing gear!" I checked and saw them swinging around with their climbing lines anchored hard at the roofline. No doubt industry s.o.p, but nonetheless, impressive. While it was not the easiest of jobs, Eric originally thought they could do it in 2 days, which in itself was amazing. But they underestimated the difficulty of removing the crumbly 35 year-old shingles and had to move to the third day, with rain predicted at noon. Then early the third day, about 10 of their crew arrived, swarmed the place, with William Connell Jr. breaking from retirement, barking at the already fast-moving team to move faster. They did. We were also fortunate we thoroughly researched the shingle style and color, and that, coupled with Connell's great install, has considerably improved the looks and value of our home. Thanks for a job well done.

Overall the job was fine. The workers were punctual and worked very hard. There was one issue we had which necessitated our speaking with the owner of the company. We had ordered custom colored gutters but not all the parts we needed were properly ordered. Rather than telling us this, and saying that they couldn't finish the job until all the parts were in, they decided to replace the gutters with white ones and paint them to match the color we wanted. I came home and saw them painting the gutters and new that no painting should have been done since we custom ordered the color we wanted. One of the workers contacted the supervisor, and the owner of the company came to our house immediately to explain what they had done. On the one hand, they should have been honest with us and not have tried to sneak something by. On the other hand, we were glad that Mr. William Connell himself came over to explain the situation to us. We have had them put on a new roof in the past, and probably would have them do work for us again, although this issue of sneakiness leaves a bad taste in our mouths.

Everything went well. The gutters were removed, roofing done in one day, gutters were re-installed the following day. The work was done professionally and looks great. But more importantly, I felt comfortable that the advice I was getting on my roofing needs was honest and reputable. I did get a quote from another roofer, but was not comfortable with their advice and felt more like I was being handled instead of talked to honestly. Very happy that I chose Connell.

Gutter Repair and Replacement
They cleaned the gutters properly and promptly and would send me invoices after the work was performed. In May 2011 before my wife's death they sent me an invoice about work previously done and my late wife paid the bill. AAfter my wife's death in October they sent me another invoice for the same work which I paid, not realizing that the invoice had already been paid. In November 2011, I contracted the gutters to be cleaned and paid the invoice promptly; In January 2012 they sent me another invoice for the November 2011 work. At this point I checked my records, realized my previous double payment and asked that the preveious double payment be credited to the latest invoice with no response. I tried calling them with no response, stopping by. I finally reached someone wherupon they apologized and agreed to apply the May overpayment to the November 2011 invoice. In November 2012, I contracted them to clean the gutters again which was done promptly and paid the invoice promptly. In January 2013 they sent me an overdue invoice for the November 2012 bill. Because this haas happened several times, I belive that while they do work promptly and at a reasonable cost, their billing practices are either sloppy at best and unethical at worst.
Based on this history, I would not use them again.

The crew came in and did a great job. They got the old roofing material off and cleaned up the area neatly in one day. The rest of the job was done over two or three days, if I remember correctly. A year later when we had a bit of storm damage from Hurricane Sandy, James came back to repair it. he was very responsive, courteous and easy to work with, and he stands behind his work. I highly recommend him.

The old homeowner was failing in Alzheimer's so his elderly wife took over the home maintenance. She trusted Connell Roofing was doing what she was paying him for. But she had failing eyesight, limited mobility, and was pre-occupied caring for her husband. Their daughter lived in Europe, but moved back to the US to care for them. When she came across Connell's invoices, she called him - clearly this quoted work hadn't been done. But it was more than 6 months now since his latest and quot;service,and quot; so he told her it was too late. She ‘shoulda called months ago!’ She tried to tell him she'd been overseas, and since coming back, was pre-occupied with her parents' care - and moving them into her own home.... Connell told her: and quot;I don't give two s****!!and quot; She told him she would post a review on Angie's List..... He said: and quot; OH, I'M SO SCARED!!!.'and quot; He hung up on her.
The daughter then composed a letter to him asking for some resolution. To date, there has been no response from William Connell...

This Professional confirmed the ‘neglect’ of my parents' gutters and pipes. He said it would take years of weathering and neglect for pipes to become broken; for the hardware to accumulate that much rust..... (You told me: ‘I don’t replace any hardware without charging money for it!’ Understood, but why didn’t you at least advise us that we needed new hardware in order to re-attach the pipes to the house??).
I was informed this work you quoted would take less than an hour - if the gutters and pipes had been maintained every six months (which is how often you billed my parents), and this shouldn't have cost more than $150 each time. If you were checking this every 6 months, why didn’t you ever make recommendations for putting downspouts where they were missing?? To repair the broken ones?? Why didn't you advise us that the old wooden gutters were rotting?? When the Professional replaced them, he simply pulled them off with his hands - easily - because the nails had completely rusted . The only thing holding them up at that point were the remaining downspouts. The fascia was completely rotted. [See the attached photo - regularly maintained gutters / fascia don't look like this].
