I have emailed and called him many times since no return calls or emails. He has abandonded the job. I suspect he did when he realized that he had put holes in the siding that the proper size shutters would not cover and didn't want to deal with it. Stay away from them, thankfully I didn't pay them in full.
The tiling work was subpar, but Robert came back and fixed the issues.
Furniture moving went well. Only issue there is that it was priced at a per person/per hour rate and I was charged the full hour for 2 people even though it was about 1/2 hours worth of work.
The hardwood floor plank replacement was quite a project. The wood (not oak) was very dense/hard so it took some time to remove the damaged wood. The original planks were at least 3 feet long but only small portions were damaged. Roberto did an excellent job staggering the replacement so that only portions of the original planks were removed,. That kept him from having to use all of my extra pieces. He also looked at a couple of other damaged areas that are typically covered by furniture and felt they could be handled with sanding whenever the floor is refinished. Besides doing a great job with the plank staggering, he also cut all of the ends very square, made many trips to the saw to be sure the replacement planks were a perfect fit, and filled the nail holes with putty and colored polyurethane. You have to get down on the floor to be able to see the repair. Great job!
Odilon, the painter, was superb. One wall had had shelves hung with wall anchors that had since been removed, leaving holes. The others had had the usual assortment of picture hanger holes. I knew this was going to be a great job when the prep took as long as the painting. And it was great. The paint had a slight sheen to it, which I wanted but I was concerned any irregularites would be readily visible. I really can't see any. I've had a lot of painters of the years....this is the first I'd have back. The price was less than originally quoted because I'd bought my own paint and the trim wasn't done (at my request).
Overall, for the day I got my money's worth and the quality was very high.
I rated price a B because I felt the charged price for the furniture moving was an end of day rush calculation that was overpriced. Since he works both hourly and by the project I'll lean toward having a project price in the future.
I rated punctuality a B because at the end of the day we'd arranged from him to come back the following week to do more work. He called in "sick" that day and hasn't yet called to reschedule. I guess I'll just need to call him.
