We had an issue with water in the basement. Whenever we showered, water would come out of the base of a toilet in the basement and flood the lowest point in the basement. Hank insisted that the problem was due to a sewage line backup and that snaking the sewage line would fix the problem. He charged us $400 for it, which was almost 50%more expensive than what others charge. The worst part is he doesn't even guarantee his work. The problem persisted so he wanted to charge us $1,000 to use a water jet that he would borrow from a friend. We suspected that he had no experience using the water jet. Thankfully, we learned our lesson and didn't have him do the work. We called multiple other providers who specialize in water jetting and they charge significantly less. We ended up going with All Drain Services who did an amazing job of diagnosing the problem using a camera. They had all the necessary equipment and were able to figure out that the problem was a result of our sewage line being accidentally disconnected due to a recent repair that the town had done near our home. The technician was very honest and only charged us for the camera and not the snaking that he also did because it didn’t do anything to diagnose the problem. Hank was clueless and he didn’t have the equipment needed to diagnose the issue. He said he encountered jello-like substances and said it must have been grease built-up. It turned out to be completely not true. It was actually dirt and rocks because our sewage line was disconnected by accident. We will never use Hank again for anything and would advise others not to use his service.

I had a badly rusted connector that I couldn't remove so I called HA English. Hank called me back that morning and was here within an hour. He did a great job.

We've consistently found Hank English to be incredibly responsive, prompt, attentive and professional in how he performs his work. And he's great to work with. He might not be the cheapest out there but reliability and the peace of mind from knowing that the job will be done right and quickly are priceless. I unequivocally recommend him.

I've used Hank for all my plumbing work since 2004. I own an older home, with a variety of challenges from old and mismatched systems and Hank has bailed me out on a number of occasions. He can evaluate the situation quickly, and is able to tear down a poorly constructed system and rebuild it with ease. He has always returned my calls within a few hours, and always shows up on time - with all the parts needed to do the job. The quality of his work is top-notch and he treats the smallest job with the same attention to detail as the larger ones.
Some of the work he's done for me:
- Replacing and repairing steam radiators
- Replacing a failing water heater
- Maintaining my aging and failing drains
- Installing sinks and faucets
When I need something done, I always trust Hank's opinion and he's never steered me wrong.

We've used Hank for almost all of our plumbing needs since 2006. He's done almost 20 jobs for us over the year ranging from small stuff like clearing clogged drain lines and repairing leaky toilets to big stuff like installing dishwashers, replacing water heaters, and repairing our steam heating system. Obviously, we think very well of Hank and his service.
He's definitely not the cheapest out there, but he responds quickly if it's an emergency, shows up when he says he will, does excellent work, leaves the area spotless, and doesn't try to sell you on work you don't need. More than once over the years I've asked Hank what we should do about some problem and he's advised us to leave it alone because it's not worrying about, even though he could have made more money by convincing us to fix it.
Among the many jobs Hank has done for us:

- repair the furnace when we lost heat in the middle of a blizzard
I've never had cause to complain about any of his work, except that plumbing is expensive in general. But you won't find better than Hank.

Hank replaced a water heater for me last summer and noticed that the other one was badly corroded and replaced that one more recently. He came the same day I called him, did everything that needed to be done with minimum disruption, and hauled away the old heaters. Very happy with him.

Hank arrived promptly, on schedule. Discovering the degree of work required to clear the basement sink drain pipe, he provided a reasonable estimate of $175.00 to do the work. I accepted and Hank then went to work and, in very short order, he had the pipes cleared, back together and debris cleared away. The quality of his work was spot on. The fee was exactly what he estimated, making for a very pleased customer.
Hank then looked over our aging pipes and pointed out problem areas that would need future work. He provided an estimate for the corrections and offered to be available to do them when requested.
Hank English was everything his Angie's List reviews indicated he would be: honest, super nice, professional and helpful. The quality of his work and dependability place him well above others who are delighted to charge more.
I recommend him to anyone who is in a pinch with plumbing problems and too little cash on hand.
From now on Hank is our plumber.

The overall experience was great, but it was pricey. I really had no choice but to go ahead with the work. I got a 10 year water heater (I believe). Hank took about 2 hours for the whole entire job by himself. I was very happy with it, plus, got to go away and not worry about the issue. My boyfriend and I ended up getting engaged that weekend, so Hank saved the proposal! :)

My CO alarm went off last night. The gas co came out, determined that the hot water heater was the cause and unsafe, and turned off the gas. They said I needed to have a plumber come to check it out and make sure everything is ok. Hank got here a couple hours after I called. He checked out all the ductwork, cleaned everything out, found and fixes a missing cap on the chimney. Hank is good at what he does, thorough, and just a really nice guy. I've been using him for years, and wouldn't call anyone else.

We had a slow leak in some pipes (coming from the upstairs tub) above our dropped ceiling in the kitchen. We decided that we wanted to replace the dropped ceiling with a fixed one, and needed the leak fixed permanently. Hank responded to our call and made an appt to do the work. He was punctual and thorough. He went out of his way to check all of the pipes in that area to ensure that we would not have a problem once the new ceiling was in place. We will definitely hire him in the future.

Hank English came out and gave us a quote for adding the laundry to the existing bathroom. When we went to redo the bathroom, it then involved everything. Hank's price was reasonbale for the extent of the work done. Hank was on schedule, came back promptly when some existing pipes leaked (due to age of pipes) during the demo phase, installed all new plumbing lines exactly where they were needed, installed all of the new fixtures appropriately, and took extra care in properly supporting the new jetted tub. We have used H A English on other previous jobs and annual drain cleaning at our house. Hank is always professional, pleasant and neat in his work. He takes the time to clean up after himself and leaves the work area tiddy. I highly recommend H A English and will continue to use Hank in the future.

Overall it went well.

We have used him a couple of times. He was fine. We like the fact that he is right around the corner for us. He was very good and very helpful in whatever we were doing.

He shows up on time, resonably priced, and cleans up when completed with the job. I can't say enough good things about his work.
