My other major disappointment has been trying to get an estimate out of Joe for chimney repair and/or repointing which I thought was included in the initial repointing scope (2 men 7 hours). Two of the workers that were here indicated that they would remind him that I needed the estimate (one even took pictures). I also spoke to two different people in the office both of whom said that they would follow up. I got a thank you note (nice touch) but never got follow up on my estimate request. Its been well over a month at this point without an estimate. I am guessing they are busy and overextended and that small jobs sometimes get lost in the shuffle. If you are too busy to take on more work, just say so.
Despite these specific complaints, the entire crew was neat and punctual. The brick work that was done was done well and I would use them again for brick work. It is unfortunate that the lack of responsiveness/oversight of the owner brought the ratings down.
We received a very comprehensive estimate that detailed the materials and the work involved with each step so we had an understanding of the cost breakdown. There were also different choices included in the estimate so we had options for certain aspects of the work.
Once the work started, everything was done with a high level of detail and worksmanship, and best of all - on time and right on budget. The work area was spotless when they left, and the work was absolutely beautiful.
We have additional work we need to do in the future, and we absolutely plan on hiring Gerrior Masonry again.

Image A shows the last thing Gerrior installed: the BBQ pavers (sealed with polymeric sand) which perfectly meet the chopped PVC deck stairs, the new masonry stairs, the mulch bed, & the old backyard on the right side of the white line. The fill brought in under the pavers was 4? - 8? deep (!) so they watered like crazy for proper compaction. A year later and no sinking pavers. Also, I assembled but they installed two electrical conduits: one next to the house, the other pops out in the mulch bed. For drainage, they sloped the pavers away from the house and deck with the water carried away by a nearly invisible lawn drain.

The first thing Gerrior and his old-school masons installed was steel reinforced concrete footers 4? under the steel reinforced 10? concrete block retaining walls in Image B. This keeps my backyard out of my shed! And it was tricky but they didn?t touch my deck through all the excavation and construction! On the right are the old posts still supporting my deck. Also on the right, they delivered on the unusual sloped wall I wanted. Atop all walls, they installed anchor bolts for me to secure the sill plates supporting my latticework. On the left in back, the wall dog-legs to avoid the house?s vinyl siding. This wall is pinned to the house?s foundation. Finally, there?s the reinforced concrete floor which slopes into the floor drain. As an upgrade from the originally estimated gravel floor, Joe and I agreed on-the-fly on a price. Now, as you can plainly see, I have the best shed in the universe!

Next, Gerrior and his masonry special forces did these great looking stairs! A reinforced concrete slab supports the stairs. The slab is pinned to the shed?s concrete block wall on one side and supported by two 4? deep Sonotubes on the mulch side. Atop the slab is rubble enclosed by 10? concrete block walls. Yeah, it?s solid. The attractive stone starts about a foot below ground level ?just to be safe?. Finally, the Brownstone treads with stone risers cap everything. Get this?as they were excavating for the shed?s retaining walls, they found and set aside some pink stones to use as stair risers to match the pink ledge in the background in Image C! It?s this kind of detail that impresses. Oh, and they applied a colored parge coating to the exteriors of my shed walls to take away the ugly of concrete block. That was nice!

They also built a tapered rip rap retaining wall (not so pretty but I?m not looking at it) on the edge of my property and brought in fill to create a planting area and grass ramp between the backyard and driveway. Gerrior and I realized a mound of fill was needed to hold in the BBQ pavers thus the planting area was born. It all worked out. My wife has big plans for the planting area whereas my lawnmower and I really appreciate the ramp.
This job started several weeks later than planned, even though we had sent in a significant deposit to get on the schedule.
The staff worked long days in the hot sun, and their work was very meticulous. However, they left our yard a mess and didn't clean up after themselves after completing the job.
Despite the beauty of the finished product, we would be hesitant to hire this company again. We felt there was some level of deceit with the inaccurate price quote - especially since we had been in touch with the contractor to reduce the size of the wall to try to stay within the budget.
Silva and Joe were fantastic to work with - every step of the way. Joe helped us refine our design, made relevant and specific changes to help us stay on budget while delivering the desired result.
Once we had things spec'd out, Silva let us know when work would begin and kept us up to date as weather interfered with the plans.
the guys on the team were very diligent and focused in their work. They persevered through some pretty hot days!!
timing and cost were as they predicted
our steps, walkway and wall look Mahvelous!!
The extensive yard leveling and retaining walls Gerrior Masonry built maximized our usable space. The craftsmanship and design work made it beautiful.
Beautiful Work - Field stone retaining walls, recessed granite steps, a paver patio, a field stone fire pit and blue stone walkway are all beautiful and solid. Neighbors are amazed at the work, and the speed.
Design - Joe designed the walls to match our foundation (including dyed mortar) so they look original. The rest of the design was worked out with Joe in advance and refined with his advice after start. Joe has an eye for design and really knows Masonry and Landscaping so we were glad to have his expertise (including a soil science degree) and experience.
Team - Joe's team was on time, pleasant, as quiet as stone work can be and left a clean job site every day. Our neighbors were remarked about the neatness at the work site and in the street.
Changes - Design changes small and big were accommodated without problem.
Joe and his team of masons and landscapers took pride and pleasure in doing quality work. We would be glad to work with Gerrior Masonry again.
The work started off very smoothly with the area being dug out and the gravel spread out over the area. What impressed me was that Joe did the excavation himself. He told me that he always does the excavation for all of his jobs.
In a couple of days, the pavers and granite step were installed. They did an excellent job with the installation. The next day, they cleaned up all the debris, replanted the plants they had to move, re-installed the panel of the fence they had to move to gain access and spread grass seed over the area where they disturbed with their equipment.
The patio looks wonderful and would definitely use Joe again for any of my future hardscaping and/or landscaping needs.
