Well. We purchased a tree in September and Mahoney's was able to plant the tree and applied all necessary fertilizers and mulch. We had previously dug the hole (but Mahoney's would have done that as well). The cost of the tree was $225.00 plus tax, planting was the same cost as the price of the tree (+$225.00) plus a delivery fee of $85.00. The tree is guaranteed for one year.

We sw an ad for Mahoney's Design service offering a 3-hour min charge of $375 ($75 an hour thereafter) so decided to try it. We have a very odd sized large lot that is all natural with plantings and tiers. It has been a challenge to come up with ideas to add curb appeal and keep things simple. We definitely needed professional help. The designer came out as agreed and on time. We reviewed in great detail our goals and objectives - stressing the fact that we would like to keep the cost down and utilize as much of the natural settings and existing plants as possible and utilizing ground covers. We also identified a drainage problem we have that needed to be addressed in any new layout. He took notes and pictures and measured everything out. We agreed if any questions or if any extra hours were needed to contact us for review - no contact was ever made. A few weeks later, we were contacted to come in to review the plans. At best, the plan was OK. It included a printout of the plan with 4 pages of colored plant pictures that cross-referenced the plan. Also a pricing sheet of the cost of the plants if purchased at Mahoney’s. The cost of the plants alone was nearly $3000 – so much for keeping things simple or cost down. That did not include installation etc. It did not address the drainage problem and the reuse or incorporating what was there already was minimal. He only did the required 1500 sq feet as the initial price covered. At no time were we contacted to advise how much area was being reviewed or any questions. We heard many times how hard he had worked and the extra time he put in but did not bill us etc etc. The more he reviewed the plan the more we were not impressed. We lost track of how many new plants he was introducing - over 25 at first count. When we questioned that, he actually made a comment that after all they were in the business of selling plants - yikes! We decided to take a few days to review and maybe we would see the overall picture better and like the plan better. We did ask about some other areas in the yard that if we were to continue with more consultations, how much more time or any quick thoughts what direction that may take. He said he would get back to us on that. Several days later and more time to review, we were even more disappointed. We called and left a message to thank him for his service but at this time, no further design consultation was needed. He was supposed to get back to us with 3 contractors’ names that would work with us and Mahoneys to implement whatever plants and plans we were interested in pursuing. We are still waiting. We give high marks to Mahoney’s plants and service when we have been there but we were not impressed with their design service. We are now working with a local landscaper that is willing to work with us and hoping to finally move forward with plans to improve our property for a fraction of the cost!

Spoke to a designer who listened to my interests, likes/dislikes ,concerns and incorporated plants/shrubs,trees that gave color, texture, dimension and beauty to an existing back yard. They offered to plant everything for an additional fee, instead my family and I spent a day planting according to the design and the final effect is beautiful.

they are the best. The first place i go, and the last place I go. I trust their opinions on planting, fertilizers, etc.

I had mentioned my narrow driveway when ordering and was assured the would send a truck that would fit. It did not fit, and I had to stop the driver as he almost hit the house. He dropped the load as far up as he could, and then I moved the mulch via wheelbarrow. In the meantime, my driveway was blocked. Mulch was of great quality, higher priced than most other deliverers.

The truck showed up when it was supposed to and the driver was nice and dropped the soil on the tarp as I asked him to. I was disappointed in the quality of the soil however - I found some candy wrappers and other trash in it, so I didn't feel very good about using it as the soil I was growing vegetables in. I think in general Mahoney's has good plants and I have gotten some great advice from their onsite staff so I was disappointed that their topsoil was not top notch!

On the plus side, they have most any garden items you want and have many knowledgeable folks on staff. On the negative side, their prices remain quite high and some of the people on staff are not garden experts.
