My front steps are in need of demo and rebuild. I got three quotes and Gunars was less than everyone else. I have used him in the past on small jobs and decided to use him again.
First portion of the project was get a permit from the City of Malden and demo the front steps, second was to rebuild the steps, third add the railing. Gunars requested a $1400 deposit on a $4200 job.
Mid April 2015 I gave Gunars a check for $1,400 which was cashed immediately. I was then provided a few excuses why he had not started the demo on the steps that week or even the following. I sensed that Gunars did not want to get a permit. Therefore, I pushed him on the subject. The city of Malden never got an application from Gunars and he was unable to get a permit. I was felling uneasy about the situation and the cost of the job was going to increase. Therefore, we mutually agreed to cancel the job.
Gunars then told me because ZERO work was done he would return my money.
After 4+ months, countless texts, lies and excuses; and a bounced check! I?m still out my money.
I call ? he never calls back. Gunars will text ? but fails to follow through in any of his promises.
Gunars lack of professionalism is shocking. He lacks common business practice of basic communication skills -- he lies about what and when things will occur. Although his prices are fair ? his lack of integrity ? makes it all not worth it.
Big to small, he does it all. Business procedure are a bit informal (handwritten invoices).
