The place looks great!  It's absolutely beautiful.  Bill & Jay do top quality work and a reasonable price.  The patch job was phenomenal and there was zero dust in the house after all that sanding.  Zero.  Very impressive.   And talk about punctual, they finished the job more than a week before they had originally said they would!  We could not be more pleased with our new floor!

WR Collins did an excellent job on our house. We found the company through Angies list and they did exactly what we were looking for. We have a two story house and they laid new floors upstairs and refinished floors downstairs while replacing the floors in the living room. I am extremely happy with their work and everyone had a great attitude on the job site. The work was done efficiently. I would recommend them to anybody and if I need work in the future I will be calling them again.

We used W R collins hardwood floor in a kitchen re-do that we did about 2 years ago. They were an outstanding contractor then, and I'm happy to say that they once again provided top quality work and service with our latest rehab project.
A previous owner of our house had taken what was once two bedrooms and turned them into one long bedroom. In doing so, they laid some new hardwood flooring in the places where closets and original walls had divided the two rooms. Because of how this was done, there were obvious seams visible where the two different floors came together.
We decided to bring the house back to more of its original footprint by separating the one long room back into two to create a bedroom and a dressing room / home office. When it came to the floors, we knew right away that we wanted to hire Bill Collins again based on our outstanding prior experience with him and his company.
Bill Collins came out promptly to look the job over. It was a little complicated in that the original floors in what was to become the bedroom had a herringbone pattern that we really liked. Because of the age of the house, there were gaps between the boards here and there and even a few nicks. We really didn't mind the look of the old floors and weren't ready to do all the flooring over again so we decided just to refinish them. However, they were butted up against newer flooring (of a different width), and in on section, both the old and new floors needed some patching to eliminate an unsightly seam between the two floors..
Bill and Jason were able to use new material and patch the floors so that the original floor pattern was unbroken and so that the new and old floors blended in perfectly. I know its hard to visualize without pictures, but take my word for it, they did a great job. They also made sure to install the new boards so that the ends would be covered by the wall baseboard, completely masking the patch.
When it came time for them to refinish the floors, they worked with us closely to fit our schedule, working directly with our other subs to coordinate efforts, and even giving us a heads-up when a blizzard threatened the completion date - BIll called ahead of time to tell me that he was concerned that the weather might prevent them from coming, and then recommended schedule changes that would work for both him and our other subs. Sure enough, the blizzard came, but thanks to Bill's pro-active thinking, we still hit our schedule. And of course, the floors looked great when they were finished. They also do a good job putting up plastic to keep the dust to a minimum in the rest of the house, and are careful not to track dust through the house as they bring equipment in and out.
I thought that Bill's price was very fair considering the quality of his work, his flexibility and the concern he has for his customers. We expected that he would do a great job based on our previous work with him, and he did not disappoint. From our experiences with him, I highly recommend that if you are considering any hardwood floor work (from installation to refinishing), you should definitely consider having Collins Hardwood Flooring come and give you a quote.

I had 6 different vendors come in to do estimates for doing the work, and while they are not the cheapest nor the most expensive, they were right in the middle and their appreciation for the wood they were working with showed when they talked about it and had experience working with the Red Heart Pine hardwood floors I had which needed some repairs. Though I didn't need it, they had spare Red Heart Pine hardwood floors to do repairs if needed, but fortunately I had spare boards that we ended up using as it was a closer match.
They were very professional and did an excellent job, and I highly recommend them.

all of the work went way above my expectations. i was suddenly in a time crunch. my house had to be completed for the arrival of my mother in law. her house had to be sold. i told bill of my situation, he first calmed me down. then went to to work with jason. they took the burden away from me. i am a retired tradesman [ hvac ] these guys are the cream of the crop they take pride in their work. i didnt have to worry about any thing, even my mother in law was happy !  trust me, i found collins on angies list. this is a wonderful resource.

We just bought a new house and ripped up all the carpet in the downstairs.  We found that under some of the carpet there was already hardwood flooring, but it was not in good condition.  We wanted to compare prices for putting all new hardwood vs just sanding and refinishing what was there, and only installing new wood where it was absolutely necessary.  Bill told us that the wood in part of the house was a good quality wood, and he said he had a few pieces of it that he could use to patch the unrepairable areas, and then he could sand and refinish it all.  We also had him install new hardwood in two of the rooms.  We had been a little nervous about the patching, as we got a few estimates, and everyone who came in told us that a different type of wood was needed.  We are VERY pleased with the way the floors look.  The areas that were patched look perfect, and the wood that we thought was "not in good condition" looks as good as new.  The new hardwood that they installed is absolutely beautiful.

We have been working with W R Collins for the past few months to have the wood floors in our 40+ year old house refinished.  There are some stained areas from pets over the years, Bill and Jason advised us on the shades and gloss that would bring the best results without promising that the pet stains would magically disappear.  They did a great job and fortunately the stained areas can be covered by area rugs so the finished floors all look beautiful now.  We are about halfway through the upstairs, we are very pleased and would highly recommend this company.  They accommodated our schedule -- we were out of town for a week and they completed the stairs and hallway while we were gone so there was no disruption to our being able to use the upstairs.  We left them a key -- and all our belongings were still there when we returned!  :-)  Seriously, they are both trustworthy individuals which is very important as you can't always be home when work is being done on your house.  They are responsible and were there when they promised they'd be, they work efficiently and clean up very meticulously.  We have been very happy with their work and would fully recommend them.

Bill's team showed up on time, finished the job in the time they said they would for the price they said they would and did a beautiful job. When we noticed one small nick in the floor, Bill came back within a week and fixed it. We can't even see where it was! We wanted the floors to look like they belonged in the house and that's exactly how they look. They are beautiful and we couldn't be happier.

We have an old house *(approx 1890). Our initial flooring contractor had torn up the old floor and ordered oak flooring to do the kitchen job. He planned to use some of the wood from the kitchen to patch the bedroom where we had removed the chimney. He was scheduled to repair the subfloor to level it out (there were pretty large variations in floor height) and begin installation, but never showed or called on the day he was supposed to do the work. After many attempts to reach him proved fruitless, and facing an important deadline (cabinet install), we looked for someone who could come in and finish the job right. Fortunately for us, we came across Bill Collins.  Bill gave us a reasonable quote, despite his knowing we were up against some big deadlines, and told us where we could find reclaimed wood to match the bedroom floor since the wood that came form the kitchen was: a) the wrong size, and b) too beat up to use for the bedroom patch. We agreed to have our general carpenter do work to level out the subfloor in advance. Bill talked over the work with him, and it was clear that he was a guy that can easily work with others. Bill's installer came on the agreed upon date first thing in the morning. He quickly realized that our original contractor had not ordered enough wood for the job! A few phone calls to Bill, and he arranged to have his supplier deliver the correct amount of wood, and he rescheduled the installation a few days later.  Phong, Bill's installer, did an absolutely tremendous job installing the floor. He worked 14 straight hours, hand-cutting the boards so they fit around corners, ornamental stairways, plumbing, etc. He also worked to fine tune the subfloor to get it as level as possible - I never expected it to come out as even as it did in the end - a testament to my general carpenter and Phong both! There wasn't a gap or seam to be seen once he had finished the job. All the other floors in the house looked bad in comparison to his outstanding work! He also patched in the reclaimed wood; again, apart from a very slight difference in color (inevitable), you would never know where the original and the patched floor came together. Bill and Jay came in to do the sanding and finish work. They did an outstanding job, and bent over backwards to accommodate our schedule dependencies. They did two coats of oil based polyurethane prior to our having the cabinets etc installed, then came back and did a final coat afterwards. The finished floor looks really great, far beyond my expectations. Bill and his company literally did everything possible to save us from a really bad situation. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone considering using him to instal and/or refinish hardwood floors. He was terrific!

i had a time line to to repair and replace oak flooring in two bedrooms, a hallway, and staircase. checking angies list i spotted collins hardwood flooring. as they are local and had very good reports i called them out. i pulled up carpets and found some good and some deeply pet stained oak floors. they cut out the destroyed boards and replaced, with a good fitting boards.they sanded the floors between several coats of sealer. what truly amazed me was the dustless sanding. bill and his partner are the real deal. they are the pros. my next step is to have my kitchen, dining, and living room done by them. this is the second contractor i have used through angies list," the siding guy" and now collins hardwood and its good to get the best guys in the trades.

I was very pleased with the work that Bill and Jason did. Bill returned my call promptly and was able to come out to give an estimate within a few days. Unfortunately, his schedule was quite full, so I had to wait a few months before he could make it out to the house. He did give me a call to try to fit me in earlier about a month after giving me the estimate, but the proposed date didn't fit my schedule. While here, Bill and Jason were very personable and easy going. They put plastic over all the kitchen cabinets and counters -- same in the bathroom. The fumes from the polyurethane were awful, but that's not their fault -- and it was way too cold out (January) to vent by opening doors. They matched the finish to our existing floors in both areas. The kitchen is beautiful. The bathroom still has one very small stain, but Jason assured me that by sanding any further, there would be no parquet left to stand on (started at about 3/8" thickness). The B rating for promptness reflects a few delays in estimated time arrivals. One for the initial estimate; one for the final coat of urethane. However, I do have to give these guys credit for braving some of the worst winter storms we've had to get to my home. The B rating for pricing may not be fair, but I'd have to feel like I was getting an absolute steal to rate any price "excellent" -- and to be honest, I didn't shop around. I was sure from the outset that I wanted to use them. I would absolutely recommend using WR Collins.

I called Bill for an estimate and he showed up at the house exactly when he said he would. He and his crew were professional and personable and gave me an estimate within a matter of days. We scheduled a date for them to start work. I was anxious that they start on time because we have three small children and needed to vacate the house while the work was being done - a delay in the start time would have been a logistical headache. I shouldn't have worried - they started on time and were done exactly when they said they would be! They repaired the stained parts of the floor and even patched some spots I forgot to tell them about. The floors were sanded and given three coats of polyurethane. Our floors are very old - they may even be original to the house (which was built in the 40s) - and they were in pretty sad shape. But Bill and his guys did a GREAT job and the floors look beautiful. I couldn't be more pleased.

Bill was easy to get ahold of on the phone and to set up an appointment. We scheduled an estimate to be done about 3 weeks before our closing. Because the owner would not let us pull back the carpets to see the damage caused by cat and dog urine, Bill came over to see the house the day after our closing, which was on a Saturday. He was working on the floors that week. He was also nice enough to work his schedule around some other people (ie. roofers, plumber, etc). All in all, a great experience & the floors look great!

Bill and Jay installed flooring in the entryway...had to match 100 year old flooring it replaced. They also inlaid a diamond pattern into the flooring...it was done by hand with great precision. The results were gorgeous. They were great to have in the house, pleasant, professional and neat. Thanks Bill and Jay!

It is always a pleasure to work with Bill. This is the second time we have used him in 5 years. He was originally highly recommended by our contractor, and did a beautiful job installing 2 floors the first time. He returned to complete another floor this time. He is wonderful to work with, reliable, does exactly what is discussed and leaves the new floor with a stain and sheen finish that matches existing flooring. His pricing is very competitive. Also important is how easy it is to have Bill and his assistant (his nephew) in our home. They are very personable and trustworthy. They have a key, make sure they don't let the dogs out as they come and go, and leave the house with no dysruption. I would highly recommend him for both the beautiful floor and the ease of working with him.

The results are stunning, museum-quality, and perfect. Everyone in my neighborhood (with similar old houses and birch floors) is in awe. Bill Collins was incredibly easy to deal with. He communicated by e-mail, as well as phone. He answered messages within 24 hours, before during and after the job. There was next to no dust from the sanding (amazing!). Everything was s*** and span when they were done. It was wonderful.
