When I initially contacted Ted he was very professional and listened to the concerns I had about my lawn. His prices were comparable to other companies in my area, but he was from the same town I live in and I always like to give a young guy who's willing to work an opportunity, so I hired him for the season. Our agreement was weekly mowing (if it was needed - I do not have a sprinkler system so during the hot months growth slows down significantly) at a rate of 35.00/mowing. He provided me with a contract which I signed and returned to him. As I discovered, Ted did not use a trimmer to get close to the mailbox, edging, or posts supporting the deck. There were a number of times when he did not mow the far side of my driveway (in all fairness, it's in a shady spot and doesn't grow as fast but it doesn't grow evenly so at times it looked unkempt). However, he did come every week and the lawn looked respectable. At the end of each month he left an invoice in my mailbox and I promptly mailed him a check. At the end of the season I received an invoice for 2 fall clean ups which I did not ask for and was not part of our contract. (I have someone that I have used for many years to do my spring and fall clean ups that I've been very happy with and who I had contacted to come out as all the leaves had fallen from the trees.) I didn't even realize that Ted had done a "clean up" because there were so many leaves piled in with my bushes and throughout the garden. When I called him to ask why I was receiving the bill he said it's just assumed that he would be doing the clean up. When I pointed out that our contract (which he wrote) clearly stated it was for mowings only he said it was no big deal and that I didn't have to pay him (which I did not - the amount was for twice the amount I normally pay and was not done nearly as well). He was very nonchalant about everything, including the job he did caring for my lawn. I felt like he tried to pull a fast one on me and I will not use him again.
Ted was on time, on budget, and reliable...and he's a really nice guy. Highly recommended.
