I couldn't be happier with the quality of work and the quality of service. We just purchased our home in Dec of 2015 (about 7 months ago) and really feel like overwhelmed new homeowners. The chimney facade was the biggest item that the inspector found. All the exterior stones on our chimney were non-standard shapes and fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. Not easy work, and some were VERY heavy and about to falloff. There were places that you could actually see daylight in between the mortar on the stones. Our inspector warned us that this could be a safety hazard (falling stones). Before getting Steven's name through a friend in the area who had Steven re-point their chimney, I had two other masons come out to give estimates. Both of the other estimates were higher than Steven's and I couldn't even get the others to return my calls to schedule the work. Steven and his nephew Kyle took the time to come out for the estimate soon after calling them, and along with looking at our exterior chimney state, he gave me some options for our chimney liner. Plus he encouraged me to contact HVAC contractors in the area to have them look at our aging boiler & hot water heater so that he would be able to install the right sized liner for when we do upgrade our heating system and save us money/time by not having to make a return trip to install a liner. The turnaround on his quote was fast (just 1-2 days I think) and delivered electronically via email. It took me a few weeks to decide what we were going to do with our heating system. Once we gave him the go-ahead, it took a few weeks (possibly a month) until he was able to fit us in, but that was actually better than the other Masons estimated time-frames. I think Summer is a busy time of year for Masons. He called us right around the time he had estimated a start date, and gave us a few days notice before he was planning to start. It actually coincided with us being out of town, but he was able to reschedule for when we were back home with no issue. They had all their scaffolding and platforms set up in no time just a few hours after their start on a Monday and got right to work removing the stone facade. They worked through some very hot and humid days up on the roof non-stop to get things complete. At the start of each day and end of each day they checked in to give me status and a plan for the following day. All in all it took them about 4.5 days to complete the work. They were also great with our toddler who asks a lot of questions. They even cleaned out and put in a door on our ash clean-out box at no additional charge when they uncovered it and found the previous homeowners just shoved some fiberglass insulation inside the hole with a piece of wood in front. That isn't even the "extra mile" part: They noticed that the previous owner had put some sort of gutter cover on our gutters that was causing all the water to go over the gutters and down the side of the stone veneer on our house causing staining and other problems. You don't want water near the house...They removed the worst offending section for free since they had the tools and easy access with their scaffolding. Not a big deal but again, just a really nice gesture and much appreciated from this new homeowner. They started when they said they would, finished on time and on budget and ended the project with cleaning up all the dust and debris. Both Kyle and Steven seemed to be kind and honest people. What more could you ask for.
Description of Work: Removed and Relayed stone veneer on Chimney. Topped Chimney with a new re bar-enforced Concrete Slab. Installed metal whole-chimney cover, put in stainless steel liner down chimney for boiler exhaust, filled holes in our firebox in-house, installed metal door on our ash clean-out box, and disassembled piping from heating system.
