The storage room was filled chest-high with the accumulation of thirty years of living in the same place; boxes of books, some chairs, electronic gadgets, a big mattress, and a lot of awkward big and small miscellanea. Chris and his crew showed up on time and loaded the whole kit onto a twenty-six-foot truck in less than two hours, drove eighty miles to my new house, and unloaded everything into several rooms. They carried the bulkiest stuff up a narrow flight of stairs and stacked the rest neatly in space on the ground floor. They left no mess behind in the storage area and made sure that everything is accessible in the new place.
These guys obviously know their stuff about moving; the truck was packed very efficiently, and they had all the right tools and containers. Nothing got broken or damaged or mishandled. Beyond that, they were really easy to work with - cheerful and reassuring and still ruthlessly efficient.
When they were all finished and getting in the truck to head back, one of the guys (I wish I could remember his name - my bad) jumped out and ran across the street to help my elderly neighbor carry her groceries into her house. He didn't have to do that. I only mention it because it gives you some idea of the kind of people you'll be dealing with.
Chris gave me the worst-case estimate of the cost, and did the job in less time than the estimate (and of course only charged for the actual time).
