Description of Work: He never bothered to show up even though I had an appointment. He basically called after he didn't show up & told me to go elsewhere. Perhaps my house wasn't big enough or I didn't seem wealthy enough. My experience with carpenters thus far is profoundly negative.

This project went incredibly well; we love the result and give McGuire Woodworks our highest recommendation without any reservations. We worked with Artie McGuire (the owner) and from the start it was clear how much pride Artie takes in his work. It is very easy to collaborate with him; we really appreciated how he listened to us and then offered lots of great suggestions that we never would have thought of - clearly he has done this many times before and knows what will work well with the decor of a home. This was very important for us as this is our first home and we are not experienced designers. He helped us select the baluster style and handrails, giving us advice on the pros and cons of what we were looking at and helping us visualize the final result. His professionalism on the job was impressive - he started and completed on time, kept us updated on what he was planning to do, and kept the area clean and safe so we and our two children could live in the space during the renovation. In addition, he coordinated his work with our flooring person well in advance without our involvement and there were no delays in moving from stair work to finishing the landing. It was tremendous peace-of-mind for us to see almost immediately that this project was in the hands of such a pro. We can't say enough good things about the quality of the work and the impact of the result. Artie brought a terrific mix of finish carpentry skill and an artistic eye. His skill is evident in the little details like the mitering of the scrolls and risers, and we look at his recommendations for the scroll work and decorative touches and are glad he suggested them as we never would have thought of them. The stairs and railing are solid and safe, and the foyer looks impressive. This wasn't an easy staircase to build; other carpenters looked at it and expressed concern over the complicated curve and amount of bending necessary, but Artie made it look effortless. It was a pleasure to work with such a skilled craftsman who takes pride in his work and he will be our first choice when we remodel our kitchen and bathrooms.
Description of Work: We moved into a colonial house that had a contemporary curved staircase that not only did not fit the decor of the home, but also had a baluster spacing that was dangerous for small children. We wanted to replace the carpeted stairs, handrails, and balusters with a hardwood, colonial look. This was a very important aspect of the home, as the two-story foyer is the centerpiece of the marble-tiled entryway . The work required was extensive including... 1. Dismantle old staricase rails and balusters 2. Building a starting tread with volute 3. Add Red oak, 1" thick treads on all stairs with molding 4. Add new risers 5. Bend railings on the stairs and radius landing, with a climbing volute at the start of the stairs and a gooseneck at the top 6. Install newel posts and balusters for an over-the-post railing 7. Add scrollwork and decorative molding 8. Sand the new stairs In addition, we wanted to add hardwood floors to the landing, and this work needed to be coordinated with the hardwood floor installer.
