Goff Landscaping
About us
Jim started landscaping when he was 16, working for landscape contractors in the Greater Boston area. Jim had found his passion. In 2003 Jim attended the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass Amherst, where he received his degree in Landscape Contracting. After graduation he worked for a reputable tree and landscape firm for two years. In 2007 Goff Landscaping LLC was started. The company has steadily grown over the years and will continue to do so. I will continue to educate myself and employees in order to provide our clients with the best practices and latest technologies that the industry has to offer. We service both Commercial & Residential customers in West Roxbury, Roslindale, Brookline, Needham & Newton.

"Thank you for the review [Member Name Removed]. Its a pleasure working with you."
Goff has done an outstanding job. The yard has never looked better. The lawn has been well maintained through-out the growing season. The grass looks healthier than it has in years. The back yard was over-seeded and is becoming well established. The shrubs were trimmed and pruned professionally allowing them to establish new growth and look healthier than ever. The fall clean-up was extensive and thorough. I feel that my yard care is being managed in a thoughtful, professional manner.

He told us his pricing for the mowing and weed wacking was $40 per time Or $45 if we wanted the beds weeded each time. He told us it was a good deal to go with the weeding. We chose $40 for the remainder of the season as we were doing major plantings in all our beds in the fall and it was wiser to wait till spring 2014 for the $45 per mow with weeding, when plantings were completed.
We also agreed to how snow removal worked and pricing for the season ahead. We followed up with an email to Jim Goff, that same day, itemizing the meeting and pricing we agreed on after our meeting and the nature of the agreement so we could make sure we heard things the same way and we were all on the same page. We sent this email (which we held onto) to him. He never responded and never differed with any of the content in the email sent. We had advised him we would do this so we could make sure our start was a good one with understandings clear for all parties
After the intial mow. We thought he had mowed two more times but he was NOT with the crew that came so we assumed he was not with the crews as they did their maintenance. We then never saw him again, were never billed, he never called us, just stopped in Sept . Some crew came to the house two times after the initial mow, we assumed it was Jim's crew. As time had gone by we had not been billed. Leaves were not being done, there was no communication at all. Nothing happening, No call from him, and no bill, nothing. What he said he would do was not happening and we were concerned that something happened to him??
Finally we called Jim at the end of OCt. 2013 and didnt reach him but left word that we had not been billed for any work And also leaf removal was not being done and we have not had any communication from him and hoped things were in order and proceed.
We missed his one call back. He left a message saying that he came one time and the following two times his crew came by and the lawn looked mowed so he didnt do anything. (that was back in Sept) He just plain stopped coming and never alerted us to anything and never returned. His only message back was reallly cryptic . We have no explanation for who did these 2 subsequent mows back in Sept. and clearly called him back with a stunned response in hearing what he shared in his message. We have called back no less than 5 times to try to reach him to go over this isue and resume services. He has not returned our calls. We were asking him why he didnt call us if this were not as he and we had arranged or understood,. We had no way to know that whoever mowed our lawn was not his crew. We didnt know him or his crew well enough to have any ability to identify a crew as they were working. It was the oddest thing we had every heard his denial that it was his crew that did the two subsequent mows.
The initial meeting was good with Jim Goff, the follow up email was sent by us to him and we were off and running.
Anyway, we have left alot of times for Jim to call us back or leave times that work for him , he has never called us back We wanted to resume services , now that he says it wasnt his company that didnt do the mowing in Sept and onward. And something clearly stopped his returning We never knew this info and had no idea of this information. It remains a mystery to us how this occurred. But clearly we had no bad feelings and wished to move forward having just learned from his brief message that it wasnt his company according to him. How to explain any of this was a mystery to us.
We dont have a landscape company that might have done this during that time frame. We had only one company under agreement and that was Goff Landscaping and no on else had been contacted for the services. We waited after the 3 mows to move on to leaf removal by his company as he detailed to us in his initial meeting. When this wasnt happening we called him.
Left word for him to resume all services as arranged and to move forward as we were pleased with the work, but didnt know what had happened to him. Why had he stopped in Sept. and never told us he did so??. He has not tried us back, no other messages. We dont know Jim well, but were going on Angie's list recommendations and friends who knew of him. We are displeased to not have a conversation with him about the experience he says he has had and why he didnt call us as customers and let us know earlier?? We were contacting him to resume and move onward. It is highly disconcerting to have someone in the same town, highly recommended, not behave professionally and treat others as they would wish to be treated themselves . Utter disregard and dismissal. Communication is poor at best and clearly the customer needs are not paramount. We cannot recommend his services. Sometimes when something like this happens, the true colors emerge.
From our perspective,Communication is an art and businesses that dont have this as a skill can clearly result in situations like this one. Attitude is so much of what makes a business's success.
Alot of time was spent in our search for a quality landscaper and this is a sad outcome of time, energy and poor results.
"I feel that your negative comments about me and the way I conduct my business are unwarranted and unprofessional. When we originally spoke about the services you wanted provided at your home, I had quoted you $45.00 to cut the lawn, you had suggested the price was a little above your means and I agreed to provide the service for $40.00 per cut. I came to the property on September 11th, and you provided you with the first and only lawn cut. When I returned the following week (Sept. 20th) for another lawn cut, the lawn was already cut by what I believed to be another landscape vendor, so I was under the impression you had not cancelled your service with your previous landscaper. So upon the 3rd visit to your property (Sept. 26th) the grass was again already cut so at this point I was under the impression you were no longer in need of my services. I had decided I could no longer spend the time or money in fuel and payroll to keep making unnecessary trips to your property. It seems to me all this negativity has come out on a lack of communication on your part, all this could of been avoided by clarifying to your previous landscape vendor, you were no longer in need of his services. When you reached out to me on Wednesday October 30th, to inquire about why I had not been visiting your property, I was not able to get back to you in my normal timely fashion because I was out of town for a wake and funeral for a family member. When I returned from my trip on Saturday November 2nd, I was not in the proper state to be attending to my normal business affairs and was planning on getting back to business as usual on Monday November 4th. So although I do apologize for not getting back you and other customers as quickly as I normally would, I had other matters in my life that were more important to me at that time."
"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to show my talents. You guys have been with me since the beginning. Thanks again."
"Thank you! It was a pleasure working with you and I look forward to helping you with future landscaping tasks. Thanks again and I appreciate the review!"
