Handyman Service
The first day, he applied some sealing putty to a fitting on the drain pipe (which wasn't leaking).
Called back the next day because the leak was still there, he first claimed that the plastic garbage pail was banging on the pipes and causing the leak. This was not at all the case. I found the leak, in a rusted-through vent pipe behind the wall under the sink. He put a rubber collar around the rusted area and spent an hour trying to free up the clogged drain pipe (the clog had eventually caused water to back up into the vent pipe, causing the rust). He failed and in fact made the clog worse.
His final advice was to call Roto-Rooter or the like. I called a real plumber who did indeed fix things quickly and correctly.
As a plumber, he's perhaps a good painter.
