We had an awesome experience with Jim from McDonnell. Our AC went out in the middle of this heat wave. Our landlord called and McDonnell sent Jim out this morning (on very short notice). He spent the last 3 hours troubleshooting what turned out to be a complex electrical issue that impacted the HVAC and ultimately figured it out and fixed the issue. Insanely professional, polite and proactive. Thank you.

they send a tech to remedy the problem, and then after several days they send another tech who was never really here very long and just looked on the system, service were over the top or too high, and I got charged 2 separate bills and the charges was too high.

After an energy audit and recommendations for heating/ac improvements, McDonnell was one of three bids received for installation of a ductless heating pump system for our one level home. As expected the three design recommendations differed as did the bids but McDonnell's thoughtful design and proposal, which was revised to accommodate our requests after consulting with Jim McDonnell, was the most appropriate for our home. The cost was slightly higher than the lowest but considerably lower than the highest bid.  In terms of customer service, they were responsive, and always on time (which in our area is not the norm). Despite their demanding schedule they were able to fit us in to suit our timetable, and fortunately just before a heat wave. The crew was the most professional and courteous we have encountered since moving here 6 months ago. They took extra care, working quickly and efficiently in several rooms and the basement. We were eligible for two rebates which reduced the cost by about $1800. McDonnell's filled out all the paperwork and submitted the rebate claims for us, a service we didn't expect. The units have been fantastic (we highly recommend the Mitsubishi products) and have performed just as Jim told us they would - extremely quiet, running at the lowest fan setting, they have kept the entire house comfortable and cool and substantially lowered the humidity which was important to us because of new hardwood floors we installed. Hopefully we won't experience another winter like last year's but we are expecting to see consdierably lower heating costs with the new system. Our experience with McDonnell's could not have been better. It's easy to see why they have such a great reputation in this area. We highly recommend them.

Tech was polite and appeared knowledgeable. He changed filter and gave me some tips on maintaining unit. We have window units in the bedrooms and we had only used the central a/c a few times during a fairly cool summer, but it had worked well enough. I was surprised when the tech took me out to the unit and showed me two pieces which, he asserted,had shorted as he was checking the unit. Fortunately, he just happened to have replacements in his truck. When I scheduled the appointment I was told in no uncertain terms that as a new customer I would be required to pay in full upon completion of the service. Bill came to about 273.00 which i thought was a bit steep, but acceptable. I was somewhat surprised to receive an additional bill for about $53.00 via email a few days later. The accompanying explanation was that the office is closed on Saturdays so the bill I was told was the full price--wasn't. Again, the call was not an emergency, but a regularly scheduled appointment, so it is unclear why the bill required correction. Others might find my experience unexceptional, but malfunctions of previously working parts when the tech happens to be present and payments in full that are not lead me to think that i might be better off with another provider in the future.

He was fabulous. He was rated very well. He said that he had to get his name off Angie's List, because he was getting so many inquiries. He is a little more expensive than somebody else, but I'd rather pay more.

I purchased a preventative maintenance and annual service contract for my home heating and air conditioner.  As promised they contacted my a few weeks ago to make an appointment to service my A/C unit.  It does give me great peace of mind to know that when I need turn on my heat and A/C they will work properly and efficiently.  I highly recommend this service. This is the 2nd year I have done this, and it has worked out great.
In addition to this service I have used their services in the past couple of years and was extremely pleased with the service, promptness and price.

First of all, they were responsive.  One of our A/C units/zones blew on Sunday, June 30 (the second day of a six day heat wave during the week of July 4th).  Others were booking 3 weeks out, but McDonnell came in 2 days.  They came and assessed the situation, discussed our options, ordered the parts and returned for installation first thing July 5th.  
They were communicative.  When the new unit was started/being tested, other issues (which would have required massive "investigation" to find originally) were discovered.  We were given some options/recommendations, but WE went with the "fix" not the "solution" and we worked out a long-term plan.  There was no pressure to get additional work done.
 
They were extremely professional.  Representatives always wore uniforms, were polite and never left debris.  I was always given notice as to arrival time (and they were prompt, despite our distance and summer traffic).  They always answered the phone and always returned after-hour messages promptly.
One week out, they called to make sure things were still running smoothly.  Zero complaints.

They began the work earlier than they estimated and it was completed quickly. The system works great. They followed up on the installation.

Work was performed over a two day period. Estimate and review of the premises for placement of units was done by Jim McDonnell, the owner of the company himself.  Since my Cape Cod home is some 170 years old, a concern was that the installations took into consideration aestetics, including the age and style of the house, to the fullest extent possible. The final product fully addressed this concern. In fact, all work was done with the highest degree of skill and professionalism. Mr. McDonnell reviewed the intallers work product personnally to insure that all was completed as agreed to, both contractually and orally. Installers were knowlegeable, friendly and neat. In doing their work, they were very respectful of my home and its furnishings.The few issues that arose in the process were all resolved promptly and to my complete satisfaction.This is an excellent small company managed by an owner who is totally hands-on.

I couldn't be happier with the service.  There is a very pleasant women in the office to answer the phone and make appointments, and the technicians and owner are awsome.  They showed up when promised and did what they said they would.

Air conditioner unit failed on a hot & humid day. Called the installer but he never got the message. The next day when he called i told him I needed to find a reliable company to respond. On his recommendation I called jim McDonnell and his secretary said she would have a man there that afternoon around 2:30 and sure enough at 2:15 Shawn, the head technician arrived and with ten minutes had the diagnoses. It was either replace the with a new one or repair the compressor. The owner called back that afternoon and explained why it would be more economical to replace the whole unit with a new technology unit that would be cheaper yet more efficient  than repairing the old compressor. The following Wednesday they removed the old unit and installed the one in less than four hours. The new unit is quiet and seems to operate less often to maintain a tempertaure. Very pleased. !! It went well overall.  Happy with the service.

Gas boiler stopped working (no heat). A tech came the same day I called. Cleaned boiler, replaced filter, noticed and repaired a leak in the inlet/outlet vent pipe. Very competent and professional. Rates may be a bit high, but well worth it to get the job done well on a timely basis. I signed up for an annual H/AC maintenance contract with McDonnell the next day.

This company's owner visited here on several occasions and was very courteous, thorough in inspecting the existing system, measuring the interior space, calculating the heating required and preparing a detailed estimate for a new system. He described the features and benfits of the new system and explained how he would install the new unit. He even reduced the initial bid by a significant amount because of our concern that the cost was too high. The second figure was still too much for us to feel that we would be able to get a reasonble return on the investment for a new furnace. As a result we decided not proceed further.

Jim McDonnell recommended a split ductless AC unit for my new office. He seemed very knowledgable and provided thoughtful answers to my Qs. His price estimate was quite reasonable in my view. He agreed to do the installation in two separate visits due to ongoing construction. The installer (technician) was friendly and competent. I was especially impressed by how cooperative Jim M. was, adjusting to our construction schedule and accommodating unexpected challenges with the AC unit location I selected. If we should need additional AC work or service in the future, I will definitely call McDonnell again.
