It was $600 for the entire summer. It was 4 treatments. They are very friendly. They were professional and responsive thru phone contact. I guess we would potentially use them again.

They started out great but I think they had trouble making it out to Farmingham and they started getting slow. They would probably come 3 or 4 weeks after we expected them to come. They were nice people. They could improve with more timely services. Responsiveness on the phone was good. We currently decided not to use them again. We are doing it ourselves now.

A careless job. In the interest of time the crew came in and moved a sprinkler (on an automatic timer) next to an open window but did not bother to return things as they found them causing damage to the interior contents of my home. The crew did not bother to turn off the water nor return the sprinkler where they found it. Mike was not willing for anyone to come out and look at the damage nor offer any concessions or apologies for that matter. Things like this are an opportunity to "make things right" but not in this case. This leaves a very bad taste.... I'm parting ways with this service provider.

We have worked with Mike and the South Shore crews for two years now and could not be happier. Mike is extremely knowledgeable about the science behind his work. His background and education in horticulture really shows and informs him. He took the time to explain the diagnosis of our lawn problems and outlined all the remedies, complete with in depth explanations for all. There has never been a question that Mike did not take the time to answer. He is clearly passionate about his business and genuinely wants us to be happy with the services. Mike explained that the health of our soil was problematic and within weeks of his treating it we saw a huge difference that persists today. Then he educated us about the different types of seed and after that was planted, our lawn was more beautiful than we could have imagined. Although his services might be more expensive than the traditional, franchise operations, his pride and attention to detail are well worth the few extra dollars.

We just completed our first year on the company's Lawn Program I. We have never been home during the application process but our lawn looks better already. The annual program is a good value when you factor in the cost of the product and the time spent buying and applying. We will continue to use.

We have been quite happy with their service over the past several years and have renewed each year. Our lawn shoots up a week or two ahead of our neighbors' each spring. They are unobtrusive on regular visits and leave a lawn flag and flyer when done. It would be helpful to know ahead of time when they're coming, but now that our child is older, it's not a big deal anymore.

He had been doing work for me for a number of years, but we stopped and got somebody else. I've used their service for probably about 10 years and I was able to talk to the worker who came out to do the work. I have a pretty extensive yard with some really nice landscaping and some wonderful specimen trees. This is not your average yard and it could be on a garden tour easily. At the beginning I asked if I could find out when the person was coming so I could talk to him about what the problems were exactly, what had to be done, what he should do, what I should do, and everything else. As the years went I still asked if they would call before they would come, but I'd find that he would be parked in front of my house and would call me to say that he was here which was really not what I had in mind because often I wasn't there. Sometimes he would just do the work he was supposed to do. Sometimes I would have an appointment and I would be in the shower. The doorbell would ring and he was supposed to do my work and it just didn't work. There were some problems that we had in the grass that was some kind of fungus or something and they weren't able to fix it or tell me what to do to fix it. The same thing for the trees because there might had been some mites. They had a pretty extensive coverage for the lawn and for the trees and every once in a while I'd say a tree seemed to have some sort of a problem. He'll say that I wasn't covered under that and it would be another $150 to spray that one whereas another tree that I did have covered he said was fine and healthy. They weren't willing to kind of work with you a little bit. It was really the asking if they could let me know the day before or at 7:00 in the morning if and when they were coming out to see me that day, but they didn't do it and after awhile I just really got tired of it. Some of my shrubs and trees weren't looking so good and a couple of them died. When you're paying $40 a bush and the thing dies and you got this service it's very frustrating. I can understand that he has his rules, but he just wanted to go spray and do things. I told him I was more than happy to have people drive by my house and if I was out I would be happy to talk to people if they wanted to know about him and the service. He kept being in front of my house and calling to say that he was here or be a block away to say he's on his way. I would ask how long would it take for him to be here and he would say 30 seconds, but that was not what I had in mind and we just kind of parted ways. At the beginning when my yard was more ordinary they were more than fine. They just have a certain way of dealing with customers and they didn't want to change. The men had so many houses to visit everyday and they didn't want them spending an extra five or ten minutes at each house chatting with the homeowner about what was wrong with her trees. Their prices seemed fair and when I could talk to the fellow he was wonderful. We've found other providers through Angie's List that were much better.

I am pleased with their service. They do exactly what they agree to with no extra expenses. I want to see what the lawn looks like after a few treatments, but I don't currently have any complaints.

My overall experience was overshadowed by Mr. Heffernan himself. I paid for all my lawn services in this past Spring to take advantage of the discount that is offered by paying for the whole year upfront. Shortly after that we decided to give the lawn management business over to our licensed and insured landscape management company who performs all landscape management services for us (mowing and fertilizing the lawn, weeding the beds, pruning the shrubs, fall leaf pickup etc.) Not just lawn care. It was easier for me to deal with one person and hold one person responsible for the care, quality and maintenance of our property. Mike didn't appreciate me taking my business elsewhere and even though he did a good enough job, I just went in a different direction out of convenience. He got audibly angry with me and held ALL $1200 of my money back for 3 months as if to punish me. The $$ was due back to me right away as he never performed any services for me this year and he ignored repeated phone calls (which turned into me threatening to take legal action after 2 months of unreturned calls). His office personnel claims to have written me a check that I still haven't received.
I would strongly discourage anyone from doing business with him, not because he doesn't do a good enough job but because his business sense is lacking. A neighborhood friend told me the same exact story. She said she made the same decision to go with one landscape company over subbing out some of the work to Mike and he did the same to her. She said it took her nearly half a year to get her $$ back!

I have been using this company for annual service (5-7 visits/year) and have never been unhappy with their work. The staff, from the office receptionist to the employees doing the work have been consistently courteous and helpful. When our elderly dog was quite frail, they were exceptionally careful to note which products might cause her problems, and which were of no concern. When our car has been left in the driveway, they are considerate enough to wait for me to move it so the tree oils do not drift onto the car. I've been extemely pleased with the results, and their willingness to work with me on individualized concerns. The owner has been responsive to questions and concerns.

Another update to a previous report. I decided to give these guys another try this year and have had a much better experience. They always had good service and price but I found them to be unresponsive to calls and requests in the past - but this year has been 100% better and I am a very happy customer. Glad I gave them another shot.

It has gone very well. The bare spots that were reseeding have grown back. The lawn is in generally much better shape (taking the very hot dry summer of 2010 into account). We continue to use their service.

We like that he will work with you on a budget plan and he is very polite to us. He will not do anything without telling us exactly how much it will cost to do the work. I really enjoy working with him.

Mike and his team are very good at what they do. They are timely, responsive, and know their business. Furthermore, Mike always returns my calls and answers all of my questions. He is a pleasure to work with, and our lawn looks GREAT!
