The lead carpenter who worked on our hosue is an expert is the renovation and restoration of old houses and extremely knowledgeable. I have owned 6 houses and done extensive renovations on 5 of them. Landmark Services are great to work with. They are great problem solvers and excellent at offering various options for solving old house problems. Their workmanship is as good as any I have seen. Beyond that everyone is friendly, professional, and a pleasure to have working in my home. Mark Landry has also been very helpful in recommending other contractors, such as a company that can install foam insulation in my attic to solve the ice dam problem.
The carpenters were extremely punctual and always left the job site clean, neat and ready to go for the next day. They are very patient, detail oriented, and very good at explaining exactly what they are doing and why.
Just coincidently, at least two of Mark Landry's team previously worked at a firm called Classic Restorations which did a whole house renovation of an old house we owned in Lexington in the 90's. I would also highly recommend Classic, but they are no longer in business.
If you have an old house, I would highly recommend you consider Landmark Services. My only reservation is that their work is high priced. However, I haven't priced other high end home renovation contractors recently, so their prices may not be out of line with other contractors of their level of quality and professionalism.
The problem with fixing up old houses where either maintenance has been neglected or mistakes have been made in the past, or in my case, both, is that it is very hard to predict what problems you will find, so you often end up working on a time and materials basis and the cost mounts up fast. If you can get a fixed price on your job, by all means do so.

It is going well so far. They are very helpful and they have been willing to work with us because we are doing a lot of window replacements so there have been a lot of decisions about trim work. They have checked everything with us. They may be overpriced but we did get multiple quotes from other companies and they gave us the best quote. We are paying extra because we are having them do extra things on the trim. We have been very happy.
