Wayland Excavating

To be fair I can only speak for one to three of the company's employees but still, they DO represent. During the blizzard on 13 March, I was the only resident feverishly at the top of the hill shoveling my driveway while my young twins were inside watching (trying to stay on top of the storm). After two hours, drenched, the plow drove downhill and dumped large chunks of snow at the entrance (instead of turning around and plowing in the opposite direction on the way back they simply backed up the hill, which means our side got the brunt of the plowed snow). When I said, "Really?! I just shoveled for two hours, he laughed hilariously in my face and drove away." Class act, professional. I posted on Yelp, left a VM on the company line, complained to the Town of Natick, and posted on what happened on their FB page. I received a sarcastic, cavalier response from two of their employees it appears with laughing emogi faces. I responded to their rude, ignorant and arrogant 'tude and lack of professionalism. Below was the last FB post what appears to be one of their employees: "Michael Rand: Hey Kuong, Give it yup brah.... root cause here is laziness and false entitlement. Shovel your driveway." "Laziness and false entitlement," huh? Mr. Rand is either a genius or a mind reader to think he knows me so well to make such a statement. He obviously knew that, being older than him, I've worked all kinds of labor and management jobs my ENTIRE life and never once asked for a handout. I hold a masters degree, have done community work, I was a police officer, I served my country in the US Marine Corps (infantry), and I own two small businesses. Yeah, I'm lazy and entitled. That's all beside the point. I've complained about these employees' attitudes and lack of professionalism from the start before this last, telling FB post that unwittingly validates my supposition. Also, no one from Wayland Excavating has reached out to me from my initial complaint on Tuesday, 13 March at 1345. 'Just say'n.

I could not be happier with the results. Dan and his team exceeded all my expectation. During the the three day project he transitioned my back yard from something I was embarrassed by into something I want to show off. The fence he installed was exactly the same as one of the local big name brands but came in way, way less than their estimate. Aside from the great work that you would normally expect there were the little things that went along way. Dan and his crew interacted with both my neighbors making sure they were happy and touching up their sides where the project met. This was a big project which caused them some disturbances but the fact he spoke and listened to them made my life easier once the project was over. All my neighbors have commented on the great work. His crew cleaned up and left nothing behind. They even emptied some barrels of yard waste unrelated to the project for me that I had never asked for. I have four children, three of which are under eight. I had full trust and confidence having them around the kids and trusting them while no one was home.

After several delays both in beginning and finishing the job, we thought it was done appropriately. Until we went to mow the lawn. Instead of disposing the old septic pipes in the dump as we would have expected an excavation and disposal service to do, they merely attempted to cover them up. We had pipes sticking out of the ground as well as pieces of metal, and plastic liners. We have a young child who plays in this area and so this could have been very dangerous. We called them to fix it. They sent over the uncle, who came over and agreed that this was unacceptable. To make up for this, he said they would hydro seed as well. When they came it was clear all they were doing was hydroseeding and not removing the pipes as originally requested. Then we had a lot of excuses. The uncle doesnt even own the business anymore, this is how it is done, why were we being so horrible etc. You name it, we heard every song and dance you could possibly hear. We thought they finally took out the old pipes but recently discovered that they still left some remaining. Bottom line, we strongly recommend you not use this company but if you MUST, make sure you get a very detailed list of exactly what they will do for the money charged and insist the job be inspected in person by the appropriate city or twon administrator.

The quality of the work was excellent. Responsiveness of the company's administrator is excellent. But, I had to pursue them for more than a month before I got a date from them. And, they showed up one Tuesday, did half the work, left the excavator on my yard, and didn't return for a week and a half to complete the job. They kept promising they would come in the next day or two, but didn't show up. I even wasted one day by taking it off from work to wait for these guys.

WORK WAS DONE QUICKLY AND VERY WELL WITH MINIMAL COLLATERAL DAMAGE TO SHRUBBERY AND TREES IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY.
