Newton Roofing was professional, courteous, and honest.

We have been entirely pleased with our experience with Newton Residential Roofing. From immediate response to my initial e-mail requesting an estimate; to the very prompt scheduling of that estimate (with an estimator who was extremely courteous, friendly -- and utterly clear in his presentation, and who produced with remarkable speed a straightforward contract with a reasonable price: we had one comparison estimate by which to judge); and on to the scheduling of the work at a time that suited our own calendar very well (in fact, at an earlier date even better than our initially agreed startup date), we had only the most positive impression. We had a crew of expert roofers who completed the entire job within the predicted two work days (staying LONG hot days, to get it done), and who couldn't have been a more friendly, courteous, and responsive team for us to deal with. For all we could judge, their work was expert, extremely efficient -- and capped by excellent protection of our lawn, mini-garden, and plantings, as well as a really thorough-going cleanup (here, we could happily compare to our previous roofing experience of some 15 years ago). If this doesn't sound like a happy report, I don't know what is!

I like everything about them. They were great. When I called, they came right over to do an estimate. It took a few weeks for them to have time to do it, but that was fine. They arrived, and they were really nice. I had forgotten to mention another thing to show them, which I asked other people what the problem was. No one else could find it, and he figured out it was an old scaffolding bolt. It was good. The workers that came out were very professional and friendly. Everything seems to be holding up well.

They did a good job and it was about $6000 on that service. They sent out a crew that was very professional and we could see the way they did the work. They were thorough and careful and they did the entire roof in one day, which I think is part of their service that they offer. They came early with a good crew and were people who worked together and were skillful. By the end of the day they were done and they did not cut corners on that and they did the job promptly and thoroughly.

I called this company twice to get someone out to do an appraisal. The first time was in the ~middle of February when all the ice dam emergencies were occuring. They weren't taking on new business but they took my name to call me in about 2-3 weeks. Well they never called. 3 months later I really needed a roofer to deal with the leaks from this winter, left a message, no one got back to me. Apparently they have too much business to call people back.

I got them off Angie’s list. The work went really good. They did a good job. They were very straightforward and prompt in giving us the estimate. They explained the estimate for us and they were willing to make changes that we wanted. They were happy to do things that we wanted. They were very easy to work with. We did not have a hard time. They were really good. Their clean up was great. I will use them again in the future.

A representative from the company came out to give an estimate (they were referred to me by a previous company that doesn't do residential roofing any longer). They discussed options available. Provided a written estimate. Once we decided to have the work done, they came in and did the work in 2 days. There was more damage that they had estimated - they went ahead and did the work (probably should have confirmed with me first - but the work needed to be done, so the issue of pre-approval was more of courtesy than necessity). They were very neat and cleaned up the debris after the job was completed. I would definitely use them again. My only problem was that they started too early in the morning :D

This is the second time I used them. They made a repair on my first house several years ago. My current house the roof had multiple leaks due to the winter damage. Rich came out and gave me a quote. 2 days later they started. They found extensive damage and had to make additional repairs. The price was fair. They were attentive to details. They initially estiamted 3-4 days, but completed the job in 2 days despite the extra work. Clean up was excellent. Would definitely use again. They are worth it.

It was great. When they got here I pointed out where the problem was so they just did the job for me. They came in when they said they would and they did the job. It has been through a horrible winter and they still did the fix. They took pictures of the problem and sent it to me, to show what happened previously and what the problems were. I could see the quality of the work they were doing. If I had a roof replaced, they would be the guys to hire.

They were good. They showed up promptly. He gave us information on how to find the leak when we could have paid them to do it. They didn't charge us anything. They were thorough, knowledgeable, prompt, and courteous. They gave good recommendations. They certainly didn't try to tell us that we needed to do a lot of unnecessary work; in fact, they did the opposite. If they had offered a solution, I would have gone with them, but the guy was honest enough to not recommend any extra work, which I certainly appreciated.

Newton did provide us with a quote first. We liked their reviews on line and they were recommended in "This Old House." They gave us the most reasonable quote as well. They did a great job and only took them one day to complete the work.

While the price seemed high at the time ($525 for 4 man hours), I had no choice. Four men arrived. The supervisor explained that with 4 men they would only be here for one hour for the $525.00 basic fee. All work beyond one hour would be extra. I had to sign a contract to that effect. I explained to the foreman that I had gutter helmet installed on both the upper and lower roofs (house is a cape with front and back shed dormers.) so please be careful not to damage them. The porch roof was cleaned completly. I can't believe how much snow was on that one roof. Portions of the upper roofs, front and back, were cleaned and channels were opened so melt water would reach the gutters. (Time for cleaning the upper roofs was limited to the time remaining under the contract after cleaning the porch roof.) When I saw the amount of snow removed from the roof areas I was very pleased with the value I received for my $525 dollars. The gutter helmuts were not damaged at all. I won't even mention the peace of mind (as in a good nights sleep) I had after the work was performed. (two days later it is raining but I don't care! Had I not had Newton Roofing I might have lost my porch today! (Sat)).

All of the personnel from this company were professional and a pleasure to deal with, from the estimator Glenn Wollenhaupt, to the owner Rich Melo, to the workers Barry and Alan. They did not use any high pressure sales techniques and they did not try to sell me a whole new roof. A run of bad weather caused them to be a little slow in coming, but they were worth waiting for, and were very responsive to my calls. They showed up on time and were considerate and did quality work. They even managed to blend the new shingles with the old, so that the patch job is not noticeable. When I said I would give them an "A" rating on Angies's List, they said I should wait until it rained to be sure! So I have waited these 3 months and found that the leaking has stopped. I would hire these people again in a heartbeat!

Called late August for an estimate. Glen came out the next day and provided a fair estimate. Signed a contract and gave Glen a deposit within a week. Over the course of three months I called and left multiple messages for Rich. He never returned my call. I finally called requesting my deposit back and managed to speak with Rich directly. I shared my general dissatisfaction with the lack of responsiveness on his part to date and he apologized. He made an appointment to be at the work site within two weeks. He showed up as scheduled with two roofers. The gentlemen who did the work were excellent. They spent the next two days performing required maintenance exceeding my expectations. If it wasn't for my initial expereinces with Newton Roofing, I would have given them an A. But, in spite of the lack of communication, I would/will recommend them to friends.

The roof replacement went very well. The workers came soon after they were hired, and replaced the roof quickly and well. The sky light leaked after the first time they tried to repair it, and I had to call them several times to get them to finally come back to repair it. But in the end, they came a second time and it seems to be repaired.

I called after the deluge in March because I had a leak in my living room. They came a few days later. The fellow was quite friendly. After conversation and consideration of replacing my entire roof, I was so excited by this guy's professional attitude and the expectations that he set that I was set on hiring them. Well, I never heard from him. I ended up calling a week later and he apologized for not getting back to me. I was a bit annoyed but understood given the amount of rain that had fallen and the problems that may have ensued. Well, a week later I sent him an email wondering where my quote was. Nothing. I was so annoyed by the lack of professionalism that I sent an email to the President, who ironically appeared on television promoting her company. She never responded either. It's been a while since this happened and I just let it go. In recent conversation with a friend who is also on Angie's List, she insisted that I let others know about my experience. Ironically Newton Roofing was a recommendation from my doctor.

Called to get an estimate, was told that there was $150 charge for them to perform the estimate because it was a purchasing decision. I informed them that I was not making a decision to purchase the property, that the property was under agreement and I needed to line up a contractor to perform the work shortly after the closing. The person on the phone stated that it didn't matter that there would be a $150 charge for the estimate.

Called to fix what I thought was a leaky roof after that first big rain strom in March, but Newton Roofing told me that it wasn't my roof leaking but was a problem with my chimney. They did say that I could stand to have my roof replaced (the second layer was put on about 26 years ago), so I asked for a quote. This company's quote was the lowest of three that I got. Because I needed the chimney repointed prior to having the roof done, I needed some flexibility for the start date and the company was very accommodating. All calls were returned promptly and I never felt rushed to make a decision. The work was completed in a single day, except for the installation of the soffits which happened a few days after the roof was installed. It appears that the soffits that were delivered were not the ones ordered. The workmen arrived when they said they would and cleaned the property when they finished. A planter was broken when the soffits were installed, and the company reimbursed me (via a deduction in the overall bill) promptly. I was very impressed with the professionalism of Newton Roofing. I had a roofing experience before that was horrific and costly and I had reservations about **any** roofer. I have none with Newton Roofing and would recommend them.

Newton Roofing's cost was very competitive and their quick quote and professionalism made me choose them. Time between quote and starting the job was 2 weeks. However, they forgot to let me know the start date and I arrived home the night before to see a dumpster in the driveway. Not a big issue, but could have been inconvenient. Rich Mello was generally easy to contact via email and phone and got things sorted out. The crew were great and worked very hard and completed the job in 2 days. Roof looks great. I was quoted for removal of 2 layers of shingles, but they found a 3rd cedar layer underneath and there was an extra $550 charge to remove and dispose of the extra material.

I have a varied story about Newton Roofing. First note I would use them again and would (with warnings) recommend them to a friend. Ultimately, they did a fine job. Initially I had a leak in the chimney flashing but figured it a good time to redo the north side with ice and water shield. I had had severe ice damming. Heating wires were effective, but I preferred a power-free solution. Several firms gave estimates (Angie's list). Newton Roofing was not lowest but was not far off, and they were going to ice-and-water-shield the entire roof, not just the bottom 6 to 12 ft. They would install a ridge vent and continuous soffit vent. The materials speced were top quality. They would start work in a few days (not weeks, as indicated by another). They came on time and finished within a day, except for the soffit vent the carpenter would do the next day. Well, they sort of finished. Several elements bothered me. First, they installed the ice and water shield in separate 3- or 4-ft adjoining sections rather than continuously. This made the job easier, but it added seams. Grace ice and water shield is supposed to form a water-tight seal, but still. Second, they didn't take care that the vertical shingle line was really vertical; it formed an angle to the edge of the roof. This is strictly cosmetic, but it bothered me. Third, the chimney flashing was done haphazardly, using some of the old leading. At first, I thought the crew was just trying to do the job quickly. Later I suspected the unconventional laying of the ice and water shield was because the crew leader really didn't know how it should be done. So I faxed Newton Roofing's front man, Rich, who made the initial proposal. He's a nice guy and seems a straight shooter. I expressed my concerns, and he came right out. He examined the work and agreed on all points. He said they would redo the main roof deck (putting ice and water shield on correctly and lining up shingles) and redo the flashing. In addition, parts of the crown molding had rot and were reused. He agreed the carpenter would replace that along with the soffit vent. The carpenter, by they way, was excellent. He was friendly and did good, careful work. The job was finally done correctly. I was disturbed, however, when the crew leader said the ice and water shield couldn't be installed continuously. It was explained to him how, and it was done. But I suspect he didn't know how to do this properly. Maybe he was feigning, but I didn't like it. Thus a B for overall experience and for professionalism - otherwise, I'd have given As. So, why do I continue to recommend these people? Because ultimately the job was done correctly, and Rich stood behind it. He was responsive and trustworthy. But be sure to agree beforehand how the job is to be done and insist the crews take care. Rich was true to his word about what would be done, when, and its cost. It's hard to ask for more, even if there were kinks along the way.

A minor scheduling issue due to weather, but they were communicative. Showed up when they said they would, did the work and picked up everything! One worker was crawling around on the ground to ensure every piece of roof or roofing material (nails, etc) was picked up. Would highly recommend.

A good experience from start to finish, Rich Melo is very pleasant to deal with, the roofers arrived when promised and they did the work quickly and without making a mess. Not possible to check their quality but no reason to doubt them.

It worked out great. They were courteous. They were on schedule and they did great follow ups.

They were prompt, professional and courteous. However, we decided not to have them do the work for us. I might possibly use their services in the future.

Their work is excellent and made it work really nicely. It was a very nice cosmetic repair. They were great and very easy to work with.
