I called Newton Roofing to make an appointment to see the damage and give us an estimated cost to repair the Skylight. I received a call back from Rich Mellow the General Manager who said that he would come at 8 AM the following morning to inspect the damage. He came at 8:05 AM and went onto my roof and came down to let me know that the good news was that my roof was okay but a neighbors chimney cap was blown onto my skylight (attached row house next door) and broke a window through which water was leaking into my house. He advised me to call a glass specialist to replace that skylight pane and then returned to the roof to tape up the hole temporarily until the pane could be replaced. He even took several photos and sent them to me as documentation. He was very courteous and professional and even when I asked for an invoice said that it was too small a job and the company would probably not charge me for the call.

they had already repaired the roof using giant ladders to access since we were away! Two winters since and the roof is good. Price was fair. We will need a new roof the next time the seals go; we will call again.

In the case of my two preferred finalists, both would be classified probably as a large small firm. In both cases, the man who bid the job, Rich Melo, in the case of Newton, were the ones who were actually going to run the job - exactly my preference. Both clearly knew their stuff, and had a lot of experience with long established firms. Newton originally came in slightly lower, so I first gave the job to them, but then the other firm matched their offer and also offered a semi-annual gutter cleaning service at $180/service, which was the lowest quote I had received from any gutter cleaner from previous searches - plus I loved the idea of having my roofer clean my gutters. So it was with no small regret that in the end I decided to pull giving the job to Newton. But these guys are fantastic, and their owner, Toni Bryan, does a great job keeping the whole organization moving in the right direction. The proposal that Rich sent over to me was on a different planet than the other proposals I received - 9 pages of references, containing over 150 names AND addresses AND phone numbers - two of which I decided to call. They checked. And most all were in the Newton, Wellesley, and Weston areas. I have absolutely zero doubt that if Newton had done the job, it would have been as equally fantastic as the one I got. You can obviously believe this, as I just spent no small amount of time praising a company that in the end I didn't use. So after reading this you can forget doing what I did by lining up 8 roofers for quotes. Just call Newton,

This was a second opinion on getting my roof repaired. After inspection, I was told that my roof was actually in good repair and that it would not need work anytime soon. I was impressed with the inspector. He could have easily recommended a repair. I will use this company when I need work done.

The work went very well, exactly as described in the quote. The work happened on schedule. They clearly communicated what was being done and when it would be completed. Unlike other contractors, they did not harass me for upfront or early payments.

Rich returned our call within a couple of days, came out for an estimate about a week later, then emailed two proposals for the jobs. We agreed to do the work, planned a work date, and Rich's crew showed up on time. They did a very good job, cleaned up perfectly, and managed to avoid damage to shrubs and plantings with their ladders and equipment (often a problem with other roofers in our experience). We are very happy with this contractor and the work done and would not hesitate to contact them again when roofing and gutter repairs are needed. In fact, we will likely do that this spring!

Everything went very smooth. Estimate and eventual price matched up. Project was completed when promised and of good quality. Have used them before for emergency service and repair They are always reliable.

Called lots of roofing companies to inquire about replacing the roof on my house. The problem was that when I built the house a few years ago, the builder said there was a warrantee on the roof for 10 years. I took his word for it like many homeowners do. When we had a bad winter from 2014/2015, the ice and terrible winter and then the hot summer weather made my roof shingles cup. They eventually started to fall onto the ground all over the yard. No idea why. I called the insurance company and they said to get a roofer to examine the roof to determine what happened. I called three of the most known roofers in the area and the only one that went up on my roof to actually inspect the damage and root cause was Newton Roofing Residential. They quickly determined there was no ice shield installed by the builder and that violated the recommended proper installation so the insurance company wouldn't cover the damage. Bummer! Lesson learned... Then came the estimates to replace the roof and the only one that provided comprehensive detailed documentation was Newton Roofing Residential. In fact, their package was so professional and included all the shingle info, warrantee and installation procedures one would desire and more. I wont name the other two but the estimates but they were hand written and vague. I was not going to risk a long term investment again without trusting that the company I hired had a great reputation and was truthful in their business practices and detailed. I went with Newton Roofing Residential. They have a 25 year history. They installed a beautiful roof and their price was right in line with all the others but their professionalism, quality workmanship and promptness was a joy to work with. I recommended them to my neighbors and they did quality work there as well. My advice is don't skimp on a quality roofer. It should last for decades if properly installed and make sure they answer all your questions. I don't think there's a better roofer in the area.

A few years ago Newton Roofing came out and did an assessment. We had a choice to either patch or replace the roof. Patching would last approximately 2-3 years. We chose to patch. About 2 years after that, we had an emergency where water was pouring over the gutter onto our heating condenser. I called them to help, no questions they came out immediately built a protective roof over the condenser that lasted until I was able to get a more permanent solution. Then last year we had a winter that was tough on roofs, it was time to replace the roof. They came out and did another assessment and basically held to the original quote. Their work is quality and I would definitely recommend them.

I have been a Newton Roofing customer for pretty much a decade and have had Richard Melo's crew perform repairs and installs on my old home and now my new home. I was most impressed and my loyalty stems from the work performed on my older home which involved problematic leaking skylights and chimney flashing. Previous repairs failed to solve the problem and it wasn't until Richard noted existing skylights were improperly installed for dommer roof. The new installs by Newton totally corrected the problem. Additionally, the problematic chimney flashing was successfully repaired by the addition of crickets. It is worth noting that following the skylight install we thought we detected new ceiling staining close to the skylights. Richard returned and checked the seems both by going back up on the roof with a garden hose to force the issue and internal checks with a moisture meter. They were in fact old stains. We did paint touch up and never had a problem since. I initially found the pricing competitive and don't bother with estimates any longer. Once I have repeated success with a contractor reliability becomes my most important issue. We had gutters installed along the back run of a deck. Since there was no urgency I got a few estimates and they varied excessively. Newton Roofing sold me on rolled aluminum gutters and installed them in hours with considerable savings. Charlie Hammond

Small self-managed condo community of 10 homes. Trustees sought and reviewed 4 bids. Newton Roofing sales presentation was quite professional and comprehensive and product line was comparable to other projects. Estimate was reasonable and in range of 3 other bidders plus reviewing history of bids on prior roofing projects on 2 other similar buildings. References were excellent. Based on prior experience, the sales person and the crew were knowledgeable and thorough. Arrived on time and worked efficiently, stayed on planned time schedule. Roof was installed neatly and the worksite was thoroughly cleaned up. No follow up concerns with installation so far!

Chimney flashing had come loose so the roof was leaking. With all the snow we had they were super busy but they promised to get to us before the end of the year. The day they were able to come we couldn't be home so they carried everything up ladders to the roof of our Cambridge triple decker. I was so happy to discover (returning home) that the job had been completed--and especially since it snowed and snowed and snowed right after that repair. We will need to have this roof totally done at some point; I'll call Newton Roofing again. We did some back and forth calling. There was a lot of leaky roofs and roofers were really slammed when we needed ours done too. But they didn't over-promise and got the work done by the date they said they would. The price wasn't the lowest (estimate) but it wasn't the highest either. We all thought it was fair (condo assoc).

There was a delay in completing the lower roof.

Desperately needed a new roof. It was before all the snow last winter, but was very cold. I thought that they wouldn't be able to complete the job, but Rich assured me that they could. Bad weather delayed us a few times. Finally came on a very cold day and completed stripping the old and putting on the new in 1 day. Job was done great and clean up which is very important was done perfectly. Had a question about 1 thing (not a problem) and Rich came the day after I called. Year later and extreme weather immediately after roof went on and it still looks like it was just done. Very pleased.

Rich was very professional, courteous and detailed. He provided a fair and thorough estimate, including pictures and assessment of existing roof condition and a list of options and recommendations for replacement. The NRR crew were efficient and completed the project with clean-up in just 3 days. The work performed met our expectations and standards and we would recommend NRR for roof replacement.

Ridiculously poor. After a little over 2 years it's leaking far worse than before. I have discovered a complete hole in the mortar u could easily fit a cigar thru. I was told the chemical that was applied to my roof would ensure no leaks for years to come along w some repointing on the exterior at the roof. DO NOT USE THE PEOPLE. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. I NOW NEED ANOTHER ROOFER TO COME OUT AND REPAIR WHAT THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD REAPIRED FOR ME AND WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM FOR YEARS TO COME. I won't even go into their responsiveness and communication. Just workmanship alone. If you want you ur job done right the first time, and mine was a CHIMNEY LEAK, go somewhere else! They may install wonderful roofs for all I know but masonry repair is beyond their comprehension. For that I highly highly recommend u shop around real hard! Get out some mortar and honestly try and fix it yourself. You'll save more and you'll have a better chance of fixing the problem. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE

Work went very well although it took longer than the provider initially expected. But the crew kept working very diligently to get the projected completed. The craftsmanship was excellent in all respects. I especially appreciated the very fast response in locating and installing a replacement skylight (and at reasonable cost) when it was discovered to the old skylight was seriously degraded. Considering the actual length of time it took the crew working hard to complete the job and the quality of material, the cost was quite reasonable. I would use Newton Roofing again for further roofing (or siding) needs that I have.
