It is difficult to explain just how bad our experience has been. We moved approximately $2,000 in heirloom varieties of plants to what was suppose to be a safe location, and they were killed in the first days of work. The owner of the company hit one of our cars while we were home, and never told us. We heard the crash and saw the red paint on the bumper, and when we confronted him directly, he agreed to pay for the damages. The company brought dirt from another work site to use as fill behind the retaining wall, and we found syringes in it. Right now, we have a beautiful wall, but we have no idea if it is structurally sound. We will have to dig out all of the dirt behind the wall to make sure it is not contaminated, we are out the money for our plants, and we don't have a patio. Even if the company were willing to come in and complete the job for free, we would not want them to do so. We feel that we cannot trust the quality of the work nor can we trust the owners.
Description of Work: The company was to build a retaining wall and stairs, which they mostly completed, except they did not install the capstone and stair treads. They were also under contract to install a patio. We asked that the land be graded away from the foundation of the house to avoid leaks, but the land still sloped toward our basement. We asked that this be corrected, the crew worked for several days, and the land still sloped toward the house. Matt and his partner Derrick also assured us that they had used a full six inches of crusher/stone dust for the patio as specified in the contract, but when we dug down, there was only two inches, which means our whole patio would have buckled from frost heave. The company has several names: New England Landscape Service, D & M Masonry, and Step by Step. Matt Kidd and Derrick O'Connor are the owners.
