WAL-LEX CLEANERS INC

Unfortunately, the new management has their own way of doing things that resulted in the destruction of thousands of dollars of Bespoke clothing. I have been trying to reach them for the past few months to file an insurance claim but to no avail. Specifically, my clothing is marked dry clean only and I have dry clean only on file. I went there and asked for dry cleaning. However, they chose to wash the clothes instead, which resulted in destroyed materials and shrunk shirts. The justification was that washing is cheaper than dry cleaning and the only difference is that dry cleaning is better at getting out stains. This is not the case, and their approach resulted in the majority of my wardrobe being unusable. I tried to contact htem multiple times over the past few months to ask them to file an insurance claim, but have no way to get through and reach anyone. I'm actually less upset at this part due to COVID and stores closing, but they shouldn't have destroyed my clothing in the first place.

I had used them a couple times for same-day dry-cleaning service with no issues. Then I brought in a black and white cocktail dress (cotton/rayon, nothing fancy, no beading or delicate fabric) and was informed that I had to sign a "waiver" before they would clean it. I asked why, and the woman who appeared to own the place indicated that since it was "multiple colors" there was a chance the colors would bleed and they could not be held responsible. I have never been told this by any dry cleaners in my life, and have also never had colors bleed in the dry cleaning process. When I expressed surprise and indicated this was the first time I had ever been told this, the woman basically said that any other dry cleaner was just lying to me, and also made some strange comment about "if you buy clothes like this..." indicating, what, that I should only buy single-color garments? They had a form all ready for me to sign, and would not take the dress unless I essentially agreed that they could ruin the dress and it wouldn't be their fault.
I took the dress somewhere else, and it did fine (no bleeding, and the other place didn't seem concerned about it). I never went back. I get that things happen outside their control, and I'm a lawyer and understand the need for liability waivers... sometimes. For a $20 dry cleaning job, it seems hardly worth it, especially as they lost a customer over it.

I needed a pair of pants shortened for New Year's Eve. They originally said 1 week, but when I asked for them earlier and it wasn't a problem. I think the person who does the alterations is only there until noon, so I would call and check first. The pants were done on time and were the right length. I have also used them for dry cleaning, but not recently - no problems there either. Parking is easy, which is a plus for me.
