I called Mr. Bianchi several times to have the work completed (the rest of the cleanup and the mulching) and he ignored my calls completely and never got back to me . I don't know what happened, whether he was busy with other jobs or what. We ended up writing him a letter paying him some of the money we had contracted for and saying we were done with him. We never heard from him. The friend who had recommended him to me many months before told me that she had also stopped using him because he was unreliable.
And I only found out when I called to find out why I still had 8 inches of snow in the driveway. Incredibly unprofessional.
They sent a letter last spring saying that I'd be on the list for this year, and quoted a price for the fall cleanup. They failed to show up for the entire month of November. I started calling and email towards the end of November and they responded (eventually) that they were still coming. Then I got a bill for the services, but still they have not showed up. I've called a few more times but no response. I am looking for another landscaper to do the work, but it is now too late in the season and I am having trouble getting anyone to come before we have permanent snow on the ground. I am very disappointed.
Within a few days, a few guys showed up and got right to work. They were quick and efficient at the clean up and clearing the overgrown part. I left for work, so I couldn't monitor the whole job.
When I got home I found that the cleanup was complete, the corner had been cleared and mulched, and the other beds had been mulched. But I quickly discovered that no landscape fabric had been put down under the new mulch bed. Now, technically I never called this out, but I thought it was common sense that any new mulch bed would require landscape fabric. And sure enough, within 48 hours plants/weeds were growing up through the mulch. I decided that was on me for not calling it out, but was pretty disappointed.
I also noticed that the concrete wasn't removed nor was the firewood. I didn't worry about it as Paul had warned me that he'd have to come back for that. A few days later _some_ of the concrete chunks went away, and the next day I got a bill for $380, and that included the removal of the concrete. I emailed Paul and got a reply from Tiffany who said she'd talk to Paul. A day later she said they'd send someone out for the rest of the concrete and the wood. Note that I explicitly gave them the location of all the stuff to be removed during the estimate and in the email. A few days later I got another bill for $380. I went out and checked and some more of the concrete had been removed, but not all of it and none of the firewood. I emailed one more time and was assured it would be taken care of. A week or so went by, and I got another bill for $380, but as far as I could tell, nothing else had been removed.
I finally just decided to pay the bill and write it off as a lesson learned. I would have happily paid the full $600 quoted if all of the concrete and firewood was remove AND the mulching had been done properly/professionally. But I gave up trying and re-mulched the bed myself. And I'll find someone else to remove the firewood and remaining concrete.
With the final bill I did get a form letter indicating that they had had some personnel problems early in the summer and had to turn over some staff. Had they explained that early, recognized that they'd done an incomplete job, promised to come and finish it, and then done so, I would happily have given them a much better grade. I understand that sh*t happens. But, that's not how it went down.
So, did I get what I paid for? Almost.
Did I get what was promised? Nope.
I called their phone number multiple times and they never called back. I sent several emails and finally was assured that they would mow the lawn on either Friday or Saturday of this past weekend. They did not show up. I sent emails and left additional messages asking them to call me, contact me, and mow the lawn. They did not show up today and have not called or emailed.
This is an unacceptable level of service and completely disrespectful.
We started getting the quotes on this project in late September so we started to really get nervous when it looked like we weren't going to be able to get a crew over here before Columbus day. All the contractors told us that we still had time and not to worry. When I was setting up time with Tiffany she promised me that we still had time and we talked about the quote and assured me that Paul is pretty spot on with all the measurements etc...
We set up time for the end of the 2nd week in October and were prepared to see how it went. I had a call with Tiffany in the current week to ask her more questions and at that point she told me that a couple of their jobs had shifted and that there was going to be an opening for pretty much a week earlier and that they'd likely be over on Saturday morning.
The guys arrived on Saturday a little after 9, which is great they started early but not too early, it was two workers. One worker went around the lawn with me and asked me to confirm the directions which were given to him by Paul and everything was spot on to what Paul and I had discussed. I showed him which trees we'd like to trim back at Paul's suggestion and they got started to work. It was a full day and they did exactly what we asked them to, even checked in if they had any questions but they were super thorough. It was so nice to see it all cleaned up. Once everything was dug up and the loam was raked across with the seeds all evenly spread out. The bonus for us to have the trees cleaned up it made so much sense and we knew that it would make a difference in allowing more sun for the lawn to germinate. Also want to mention that the 2 workers were really professional and courteous, I asked questions about what we should do to be sure that seeds were able to germinate. And he was able to talk to me about the fact that although it's important for the lawn to be watered there is no need to over water little moisture goes a long way.
Although it did rain a lot in the first week the lawn really started to come in in the following weeks and it looks great. It's been 6 weeks now and it's looking amazing. Next step for us will be to see how it comes back in the spring and put together a maintenance plan so I'm sure I'll be giving Paul and Tiffany a call to see what we need to do in the spring.
