These guys are terrific! I have gone to them several times in the past for my old (Sharp) vacuum cleaner and found them prompt, well-informed, and cheap. Today I brought in a fairly new Shark vacuum. Instead of taking it in and "working" on it, they just unclogged it in three minutes and wouldn't accept a dime.

Because of the large variety of sewing machines available to look at and try out, I went to Mr. Sweeper and Vac. The saleswomen took the time to listen to what I needed in a sewing machine and steered me towards models that would fit my needs. I found their prices to be competitive with both other stores and online vendors.

The Singer machine needed service after I made the mistake of trying to sew through adhesive Velcro, which caused tangles and ultimately messed up the tension setting. The provider gave me an immediate estimate, and notified me within a week that the machine was ready for pickup. I then brought my much sturdier Pfaff machine, which had gradually developed more and more tension problems (it had been many years since it had been professionally serviced). For this also, an immediate estimate was offered, and this work was completed within ten days (the time included the Thanksgiving holiday). The Pfaff repair was more expensive, but more work was involved. Note to future customers: bring your own thread and filled bobbin for your machine. With my first machine, it happened to be on the machine. This meant that he could do a trial run while I was there to predict what would be needed to get it running well. With the second machine, I didn't bring it threaded, as I expected to have it thoroughly serviced anyway. Since he needed to use a bobbin to test his repair, I was sold a set of bobbins. No problem really, as you can always use more.  I was impressed with his promptness and professionalism.

The repairs took an exceptionally long time (5 weeks) in part because they needed approval from Dyson and then had to order parts. After about a week, I was called that they had the OK from Dyson to replace the motor. However, I was told that there were wood shavings all through the vacuum cleaner. This did not make any sense. While I had some new cabinets installed in my kitchen, but there was only a minimum of actual carpentry work done and the installers cleaned up most of the debris with their own machines. Anyway, after three weeks I was called that the motor was replaced but that side filters needed changing (NOT under warranty). Out of frustration to get my vacuum cleaner back, I gave the go-ahead. The next day I was called telling me that the chord would no longer retract (again due to wood chips) and that the part would need to be ordered. It took another two weeks to complete the repairs. I called Dyson, and they said there are NO side filters that should be cleaned, and I have no idea what I paid $40 for! I feel that I was taken advantage of by Mr. Sweeper and would not go back nor recommend their services. I also feel that I was talked down to (addressed as "Dear" which I find offensive) and told to tell my husband not to use "my" vacuum for shop work!!!
Response from Mr Sweeper Sales & Repairs
"Sorry for the delay in repairing your vacuum. After you purchased the Dyson vacuum somewhere and had a problem Dyson sent you to us because we do there warranty work. It does take more time than normal repairs do. We have to file for warrantee, wait for approval from Dyson and then we have to wait for Dyson to send us the parts, there is nothing we can do without the parts, unfortunately after we replaced the motor we found the cord problem and that caused another delay. All Dyson vacuums have filters, everyone at Dyson who answers the phone should know this. The filters are washable but if after washing them they don't come clean its because there is dirt clogging the filters and for the best performance, the filters should be replaced. They are not covered under warranty as we explained and we told you the price, you told us to replace the filter. As far as being called Dear, I am sorry you were offended, I told the tech. to stop calling people dear. Any problems or questions I'm usually around. Denis,"

We arrived at the West Roxbury shop and were greeted by the salesperson, who immediately guessed that we had a burned-out belt. He took the vacuum and confirmed this- showing us the damaged belt. He replaced the belt (there might have been two) in less than 10 minutes and we were on our way. The total cost was about $22 for the new belt and the labor. He was extremely helpful, courteous, and efficient. I was so glad to have the problem solved so easily! The shop is nice and offers a number of vacuums and sewing machines and accessories. I happily recommend this provider and would visit the shop again for any repairs or even to buy a new vacuum.

I went in on a Saturday so the storefront was bustling but Tom took the time to explain the pros and cons of the variety of vacuum cleaners. There were some fabulous models -- but way out of my price range. So I selected a more basic model used by many household cleaners. Tom gave me some money off for the trade-in of my older vacuum cleaner and threw in a package of cleaning bags.

I brought my old, broken Kenmore vacuum cleaner in for an estimate on repair. As I suspected it really wasn't worth investing any additional money into fixing it. "Richie" was wondering in assisting me with both the repair estimate and the purchase of a new vacuum cleaner. He was very professional, informative and definitely NOT pushy. He spent an extreme amount of time with me explaining all the different features of the vacuum cleaners he had for sale. He went to extra lengths to demonstrate how well each vacuum cleaner worked on picking up animal hair (I have four cats). Due to the amount of animal hair I vacuum up as part of the purchase he also gave me a "crumb catcher" to vacuum my furniture. This would have been an additional $40 cost to me. In addition, he gave me a trade-in for my old vacuum cleaner as well as a free years supply of vacuum cleaner bags. I could not have asked for a more pleasant purchasing experience, or a better sales person to assist me. I would highly recommend this company to all my friends and family.

I brought my very old machine to Mr. Sweeper because they had serviced it for me years ago and I had been happy with their service then. A couple of weeks ago, the machine stopped working suddenly. The power seemed to be reaching the machine, because the light was on, but when I pressed the foot pedal, nothing happened. The motor did not whir, and the presser foot did not move. I dropped off the machine at Mr. Sweeper to be diagnosed. The people who work there could not have been more friendly and pleasant. I felt very welcome as soon as I walked in the door. They let me know approximately how long it would take for them to diagnose the problem and when I would expect to hear from them, and they kept to their word. The diagnosis was that the foot pedal was broken and needed to be replaced. This was not shocking, as my machine is 45 years old, and this was the original pedal. They told me that it might take about a week to get the part and then attach it to the old wire. They explained that it would be ideal to use the old wire because it was still in very good shape and it would fit the unique plug shape in my machine. They asked me - but did NOT at all pressure me - if I also wanted them to do a tune-up while my machine was there. I asked what that would mean, they explained to me in detail what a tune-up would entail and what the price would be. As my machine had not been serviced in many years, and the price seemed reasonable, I thought it would be a good idea to have a tune-up. A week later exacly, as promised, they called to say that my sewing machine was repaired, tuned-up, and ready. At pick-up, I was talking about some of the quirks in my old machine, such as the slip-back of the tension setting when I first turn it on, and a couple of other things. It was explained to me that if I don't use my machine frequently, I should turn it on and run it every once in a while anyway, like you would for a car engine, to keep it in shape. I never knew this! Apparently, this might solve some of the "quirks" in my machine. All in all, my experience with Mr. Sweeper was excellent. The folks at Mr. Sweeper are straight with their customers. They tell you in advance what to expect, how long it will take, and what the price range will be. There are no surprises. Furthermore, they are warm and friendly. It is a pleasure to do business with them.

Rick and Tom were very nice. We bought a reconditioned vacuum cleaner for a little bit more, but they threw in some extra goodies such as bags. We are happy with their service and I think we'll be very happy with what we bought from them. They were very welcoming when we came into the store. They even brought the new vacuum out to our car for us.

Although my machine has been regularly cleaned and tuned over the years, various small things had stopped working. In addition, the bobbin winder abruptly broke. Mr. Sweeper fixed the bobbin winder, which was the stated reason for the repair, cleaned the machine and oiled it. In addition, the small annoyances were repaired. Also, unlike some previous cleanings, there was no excess oil in or on the machine.

They did the work by the time estimated, called to let me know the machine was ready, and carried it around the block to the car for me.
