JFCS has a Parkinson's unit whose philosophy recognizes that this is a "family disease," involving caregiver(s) and extended families as well as patients. The initial conversation was a call in response to my email from the unit director, Nancy Mazonson. I learned a great deal just during that conversation. I subsequently have worked with a geriatric care manager who is a licensed social worker. She has assessed the situation, including the living set-up, and has recommended practical long and short-term solutions. She is eager to continue working with us on practical and emotional issues as the situation progresses. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover her services, but JFCS is willing to set up a payment plan to make the services more affordable. Note: This organization serves clients of all backgrounds.
