Jason's price was better than everyone else's, and when I had follow up questions after our meeting he answered them carefully and quickly. He scheduled the job around my needs, showed up on time, walked me through what he had done at the end of the first day and walked me through the finished project at the end of the second day. His crew cleaned up thoroughly and left the house and yard as they found it. I was thrilled with the work, and it's such a relief to go downstairs in a rain storm and not worry about finding a flood!
We cannot recommend Jason highly enough. Professional , courteous , experienced, reasonably priced are words that would describe his company. He answered all our questions, answered all our calls ,sent all the insurance paperwork (cert of insurance) promptly and did not pressure us to make a decision. He fit us into his schedule by doing the install on a Saturday which we really appreciated . The pump was installed perfectly and we have the peace of mind knowing it was done the way it should be and will do the job when needed.
Jason runs his company the way we think all businesses should be run which is the reason he is so successful .If you are looking for basement waterproofing we strongly recommend you contact Jason because he is the best at what he does.
Jason, however, asked about the house's water history, walked the entire property (inside and outside) to completely understand the issues, confirmed the part of the system that was working correctly and offered suggestions of how to correct for the water problems I was having. Jason encouraged me to ask questions from the day he came to provide the estimate to the end of the completed job. I felt that Jason actually listened and viewed my water issues as if it was happening in his own house. Not only was Dry Crete the lowest estimate of the 4 companies, but I had a solid gut feeling with Dry Crete's method of installation. I hired Jason and Dry Crete on the spot and am very glad that I did.
Jason and his crew were amazing - they arrived on time, finished a day less than estimated, were very polite and professional and cleaned up the areas as they went. Jason's crew worked like mules to jack hammer the entire basement perimeter, removed mountains of clay and debris, brought in 3/4" stone and 8" pipes and poured a nice smooth concrete to finish the area as would a mason. They replaced the 2 inadequate sump pumps and I now have an entire basement perimeter French drain complete with 2 large inspection clean-outs that I can flush with a garden hose myself. Jason showed me how to use and monitor the system and how to change out a pump if 1 should fail. Dry Crete encouraged me to understand how my system works and did not try to up-sell perpetual maintenance contracts in order to validate their warranty. Instead, Jason taught me how to monitor and flush the system and also showed me how to change out a pump with ease. I would hire Jason and the Dry Crete team again if I ever have water issues and would highly recommend Dry Crete to anyone not quite comfortable with what the other well known waterproofing companies tell you.
Although I have not gone through the rainy season yet, I can tell you that my water level went from directly under the floor to down almost a full foot. I called Jason with a question the week after the job and he came back to address my concerns within a few days. It turned out to be a pipe with condensation from humidity but Jason actively pursued the solution to the issue to make sure it was only condensation. A responsive and honest contractor is hard to find - Jason and his Dry Crete crew are terrific!Kathy D
Jason and his team arrived promptly at 8 am both days. They were very professional and we are very happy with the results!
We would highly recommend using drycrete in the future!
He reviewed the problem area and provided a very detailed description of the recommended solution and clearly answered all of my questions. He provided a quote on the spot. i called back a couple days later and scheduled the date for the installation.
Jason and his team mate arrived on time and started right to work. They anticipated a 2 hour job but as they jack hammered and excavated the concrete, they discovered a few large rocks underneath which added to the time to properly excavate the area. There was one VERY large rock (which made sense to leave in place rather than remove) but it prevented the placement of the pump in the originally determined location. Jason was very clear at explaining the situation and recommending a change of the location from the corner of the area against to the house, to the corner against the first step.
They completed the work filling in the stones and concrete and cleaned up all excavated material thoroughly. Jason tested the pump and showed me how I can disconnect and remove it for seasonal storage.
I would highly recommend Drycrete and Jason for any basement waterproofing work.
Jason and John very patiently responded to several emailed questions before the date of installation. The crew arrived on time on the scheduled day and were very efficient and meticulous regarding the work. The entire installation went very smoothly and the work was completed in about half a day. Jason was present the whole time and was always responsive to any questions we had. The crew cleaned up after themselves and disposed of all debris. After all work was completed Jason showed us how to test the system and how to maintain it (very easy).
It has rained heavily a few times since the installation and we have not gotten a drop of water in the basement! We would recommend Dry Crete without hesitation to anyone having problems with water in their basement, and will certainly use this contractor again in the future.
Of course I would have like to have paid less, but seeing the task they performed and the efficiency and thoroughness of the
work and cleanup, they earned every penny. Jason even put screws into a downspout extension which had constantly
been falling off, right at the exterior corner of the leaky room. He also found a disconnected furnace dehumidifier pipe that was leaking into the basement as well and , without asking, fixed it and the drainpipe. He found it and fixed it.
He updated me many times during the job progress and explained and had me view, in great detail, what was happening.
He thoroughly versed me on the workings of the new pump and dehumidifier, their warranties and services. Because I dislike
basements, let's say that has been an area of benign neglect, I learned more about it's workings in the past 3 days, with Jason as a guide, than I have in 40 years of living here.
I will use DriCrete again this winter for another dehumidifier problem on the Cape. I recommend the company, the staff and crew and the work. Most professional.
The crew showed up when they said they would. They were clean as a whistle! Every evening Jason gave us an update of how things were going. They finished a bit ahead of schedule. But they left the place immaculate. Considering that they were jackhammering cement and laying rocks and pipes and concrete, it was very impressive how they left the place.
I would recommend Jason and the Drycrete crew to anyone.
They would be welcome back anytime and I would not hesitate to reccommend them completely. There were no pricing surprises either; pricing quoted never changed. My only regret is that they don't have a clone to do other kinds of repairs! We need to re-model a bathroom, so back to Angie's list we go in the hope that we find someone as great as Jason/DryCrete.
After living through two floods in March 2010, we decided to seek a permanent solution to our basement water problems.
On May 1, 2010, we had John from Drycrete come out and give us an estimate to install approximately 100? of French drains in the basement of our home, replace our existing sump pump and to take the drainage pipe from the system 20? into the backyard and bury it with a leaching bucket in the lawn and fix a crack in the exterior basement door sill. As homeowners, we agreed to give his people workspace access around the perimeter of the basement and that we would have the washer and dryer disconnected to allow the drains to be put in behind them. Our understanding was that they would go around or in front of other fixed obstacles (i.e. oil tank, etc.) and that John worked on the jobs with his crew. We hired his company and booked the earliest date we could get, in October, for the installation to take place. (We had received quotes from other companies, but were impressed that John worked his own jobs and that he guaranteed his work. Drycrete was also well rated on Angie?s List and recommended to us by our neighbor.)
The crew was able to come a week early which, although appreciated, did require some last minute coordination to have the washer and dryer removed the morning of the job start and ensure that someone would be at home during the work.
The crew on this job WORKED! They used jackhammers to break up the concrete around the perimeter of the basement and hauled all of the rubble out by hand in 5 gallon buckets. They then had to bring crushed gravel back into the basement in buckets to fill the trenches around the drainage system before the whole thing was cemented over at the end. Overall, we think they did a really good job and knocked it out in two days.
However, the entire process did not go quite as smoothly as we would have hoped. We ended up having to go to the unexpected expense of having our slop sink removed and re-installed, as its removal was not discussed during our initial estimate. John also wanted to change the outside drainage method at the start of the job to one that was not what we originally agreed to and he was actually ?in and out? at the job site, not working alongside his crew as we had thought. The crew also removed a ?temporary? support column in the basement and left it on the floor. (We found it after they had left the first day.) Jason, the crew supervisor, did have it reinstalled near its original location after our concerns were expressed, but we were quite alarmed that we needed to explain why it isn?t a good idea to just take down supports in a 90+ year old home without immediately re-bracing the area, particularly when using jackhammers nearby. We also had to point out at the end of the job that the hole going through the back wall of the house for the drainage pipe needed to be sealed, as you could see daylight all around the pipe, and Jason ended up caulking it with our own materials. Finally, we were told that the new system had been tested and was working, but we were not given the opportunity to be present during the test and a demonstration was not offered to us.
Are we happy with the job? Overall, yes.
- The job was able to start a week early and was completed in two days.
- The crew arrived on time and worked very hard both days they were here.
- As long as the system continues to work, we will be very happy and it will have been worth every penny to never have to bail water out of the basement again.
- The system comes with a limited warranty and it is included in the contract.
- Any concerns we brought up to the crew were addressed quickly and the final price was the same as the estimate and was payable in full at the end of the job.
What would we like to have seen done differently?
- Unintentionally or not, we were given the initial impression that John worked on the jobs himself, not just as a visiting supervisor, and that wasn?t the case on this project.
- Don?t try to change the outside drainage method that was previously agreed to when everyone is on-site and ready to start work. It wasn?t appreciated and started the job off on a bad note. (In the end, it was installed as originally agreed upon.)
- Don?t remove structural supports without immediately re-supporting the area or informing us that we need to have this done by another contractor; as this could have had major repercussions. It doesn't matter that the support was technically removable (i.e. not cemented in); it serves a purpose and should have been moved over a foot or two, if necessary, rather than left on the floor.
- Demonstrate the system for us. We paid a substantial amount of money for this project and, if you are proud of your work, you should want to show us how great it is.
I called Drycrete on a Thursday and that Saturday (2 days later) Jason come out to look at our dampness/humidity issue in our garage. When Jason came out and looked around he explained to me what he thought the "real" problem was. He felt that there wasn't enough piping around the perimeter of the garage in the current system to "catch" all of the ground water that was coming into the garage. He thought ground water was still coming in from under the house and settling in the garage, which was causing the moisture to build up and come through the floor. He also took the time to explain to me the difference between the current system a 3" pipe and the Drycrete system a 4" pipe. Then he explained to me that not only was he the salesman, but that he would actually be the one installing the system too. Jason left me with a written quote to put in 18' of drainage on the left side and 12' on the right side. After we talked a little bit more about the problem he said that he would increase the left side to be the full run of the garage (24') for no extra charge because he wanted to make sure the system would work. The quote was $1700 so I asked about availability to install the system and he said he was booked about 3 weeks out. I told him I was getting the original company to quote me on the extension and Jason asked me to contact him one way or another once I made my decision
On the same day I called Drycrete I also called the company that installed the original system. I called them 3 times over the next week and was told someone would call me back. When I finally got a call back they said they would be in my area the following Thursday (which was 8 days later) They came out looked at the garage and said that the system needed to be the entire perimeter of the garage. He even brought with him the original contract from 2003. Their verbal quote to extend the system was $4400 which would give me the complete perimeter of the garage. He said he would not recommend just extending the sides because that would not remove any water penetration from the front of the garage, but if I really wanted to do just that the price would be $3600. He said he could have the system done the next week and it would only take a day. I told him I'd get back to him.
I called Jason back and asked him what he thought about doing the whole perimeter. He explained the pros and cons of doing it and then gave me a verbal quote if he were to do the same job. His price was $2700! I then told Jason what the competitors quote was and even he was shocked at the price. We finalized the contract via fax and email and the job was scheduled all that same day.
The work was finished today and we couldn't be happier. Even today there was less moisture on the garage floor than we ever remember. I assume we have now solved the problem but I won't know for sure until it rains or the high humidity returns.
Jason supervised the job, came on time, minimal noise (10 - 15 of drilling through cement foundation) and mess. The thing I really appreciated was he would ask me how I wanted things done (where the pvc drain pipes would exit through foundation wall) The job looks neat, the clean up was excellent he tested the pumps and answered all my questions without making you feel like you were imposing on him. In fact I had a question a day latter and when I called him he returned the call in a timely fashion and patiently gave me an answer. Now I'm waiting for the rains to begin and wish I hadn't waited so long (20+ years) to address this problem.
The rain from Hurricanes Irene and Lee have tested the crack and sump pumps and all worked great. No leaking from the crack and the pumps have been on intermittently and my basement is dry. So glad I got this done when I did and again Drycrete/Jason did a a great job, wish they did other kinds of house work, highly recommended.
