Called them for a roof repair for a leak. A year after the repair we got our first snow storm and the leak is now back in the same spot and worse. I've contacted them multiple times and they repeatedly blow me off and tell me "noones in the office". I have told them I found an area of exposed wood that was not sealed in when they did the roof. My home now has mold and I cannot repair my ceiling damages til someone repairs this roof!

I contracted Ryan Roofing to replace our condo's roof in Fall 2017; the job included the replacement of a few custom-size skylights and, overall, they did a good job. Almost a year to the day, I noticed a crack forming in one of the skylights so I reached out to Ryan requesting their help with arranging a warranty-covered replacement from the manufacturer. This started a FIVE MONTH LONG effort to get them to reply to me - repeated emails, repeated phone calls, even a visit to their office in Wakefield. They NEVER engaged with me. I even went so far as to do all of the warranty homework on their behalf and handed it to them on a silver platter. Nothing. Based on this, I cannot recommend Ryan Roofing for any projects - save yourself the aggravation and choose one of the many local competitors.

The end result looks very nice. The price was fair. Evan the sales guy was very responsive. They did the job very fast. Only a couple of complaints: (1) They started stripping the roof with rain imminent even when they didn't have tarps on hand. That caused some leakage in the bedrooms on the top floor. (2) They broke a window sill and a house shingle. (3) There was a fair amount of debris left over after they cleaned up. It should be noted that Evan offered to fix the water stains and the window sill (they didn't know about the house shingle), but I said I preferred to do it. A- overall.

I think I got them off Angie's List. The price was comparable to everyone else. The reason I used them was because I have a sun room and a lot of guys didn't want to touch the sun room and Peter Ryan roofed it for me. They left foot prints on part of the roof so they had to redo part of the roof. They weren't happy and I wasn't happy. At the end of the day it was fine. I give them a good rating.

They did an excellent job.  They arrived on time with 6 workers.  They put in a 12 hour day - took 1 break and got the whole roof done.  They did a wonderful job cleaning up.  The workers all kept moving the whole day and worked very well together.  It was like watching a well oiled machine.  They all knew their jobs and what each other was doing next.  Fast, efficient, high quality work.

Super. Thorough, effective and cleaned up after themselves. They even helped wife move some furniture upstairs so they go above and beyond. Peter is approachable and fair.

Overall OK but there were a few nails left in the driveway and the leak issue returned over the winter.
Response from Peter Ryan and Son Roofing Inc
"We do the best we can with regard to making sure all nails and debris are removed upon completion of a job, but every now and then we may miss a few. We do apologize for that. The leaking over the winter was most likely due to ice dams, which was a major problem for thousands of people this past, record ice dam season, and has nothing to do with the work we did."

It was fairly straightforward. I contacted them via their website and received a prompt response, they sent someone out to view the scope of the work and to submit an estimate. They were in line with the other estimates and so I chose them. I would consider hiring them in the future.

Water started leaking in my basement.  I thought it was a pipe that was leaking so called my plumber.  We soon found out it wasn't the pipe at all, but water coming down the wall from ice dams.  I must have made five calls to different roofers.  Two never called back, one's mailbox was full (gee, wonder why) and one roofer would have done the job (a friend of my daughter's), but he was out in Framingham (I'm in Woburn) and was already overloaded with calls.  My plumber suggested Peter Ryan and Son Roofing.  I made the call and got a call back the next day (2/18) from Evan.  I was told they could do the work for me on Friday (2/20) and Evan said it was a definite and asked me to call the office to confirm the appointment the next day (2/19).  Because the water leaks were getting worse, I stayed home the next day in case the water leakage migrated toward any wiring in the basement.  When I called the office to confirm the appointment, I was put on hold.  Then Evan got on the line and told me I was the next house!  Yes, they came a day early!!  That was a relief because the amount of buckets to catch the water was increasing and the water was meandering its way through the house too.  Within an hour about five guys showed up.  They went up on both sides of the roof and began shoveling the snow and breaking up the ice dams.  It was done in a little over an hour (the ice dams were very large).  They even made it a point to avoid tossing any broken ice and snow on my deck, which had a glass patio table in 'firing' range of the falling ice.  I'm happy to say the table survived.  Unfortunately, the shrubs sustained quite a bit of damage from the falling ice - hopefully they'll revive this spring - if it ever gets here.  I also noticed many of the shingles now have chips off of them, perhaps a result of the metal shovels?  I expected the shingles in the area where the ice dams were would definitely need replacement, but didn't think the upper part of the roof would. One good thing - I have a pvc pipe coming out into the gutter that is a drain pipe for the central a/c unit.  I'd forgotten all about that, but it looks like it also survived.   But, I'm now thinking I'll have to replace the roof, and will add a water/ice shield to it when I have it done.  The good part is, the ice dams were gone and no water leaking!

It?s tough writing a negative review for any company however I have reached the last straw to my tolerance of sheer disregard as a customer during and after work was done from this company and the owner Peter Ryan. My reason for going with this company other than the lower quoted price was the thoroughness by which the owner had done a walk-through of the property and ensured a guarantee/warranty of his work. Work was scheduled to take 1-2 days starting 11/19/13 but didn't end till 12/12/13.
Every point listed to be on the estimate was done with lackluster.  There was no consistency of work that was done. At times workers came when they showed up. insufficient material to complete work. Mis-communication to workers as to what was to be done when they arrived.  Windows were not caulked consistently all the way around. Workers left some trash, materials, and cigarette butts.  Black caulking was left on door knobs, floors, curtains, and window sills. The employee that did do this did come back and eventually cleaned the areas. When work said to be have done by the company I had to email them to remind them of outstanding work not yet done per our invoice. There was no follow up by the owner until I called a meeting. I had taken too much time from work but didn't feel comfortable with employees at my home and getting the work done satisfactorily.
In the end I had stuck my head out of every single window to ensure all caulking was complete. I myself pointed out that employee's didn't have any harnesses when stepping out on window ledges, especially when daylight hours started to wane. My brother who owns his own "A" rated painting company with Angie's list suggested they produce proof of insurance. When this was asked for I initially received something out dated.  Before any other work was done updated insurance statement was was sent some time after.
I hoped this was the last I would do business with them until a leak had come through in my kitchen ceiling on 3/29/14 (sat) during a particularly rainy evening. This area was said to have been patched by the company when they first did their work here. There was contact by the company that Monday with promises to have someone from the company be out to look at
the leak and surrounding damage no later than Saturday (4/5/14) and a call would be made to me the Friday prior. I first wasn't thrilled with the lack of urgency in response to this matter but yet again giving the company a chance to change my mind on how they do business and value their customers new and old and most importantly honor their warranty. I reached out to them by email to them end of day Friday as I had no response to my voicemail left earlier in the day.  They responded only when there was mention of taking legal action. Someone did come out and blame was place on improper nails used AROUND the area where shingles were replaced, not with work done by them.  I wasn't surprised by this response.
Now another leak occurred in the same place on 11/26/14 with water damage increasing. I reached out to the company on 12/2/14 (Tues) when Thanksgiving festivities were done and spoke with Cathleen who did remember me. She stated she would reach out the owner Peter Ryan and see what the next steps would be. I received a call about 3 hours later with the promise that someone would be coming out by the end of the week and a call would be made an hour before they were to come.
I received no call or hadn't received a visit. This leads me to unfortunately writing this email. I will never do business with this company again. Beware of work being subcontracted out.  Maybe smaller jobs are given less importance versus bigger projects.

Response from Peter Ryan and Son Roofing Inc
"We are very surprised to read such a review, as we thought based on our communication with this customer she presented as satisfied. It truly is unfortunate this customer elected to write such a poor review of our company. She has complained about us with regard to her roof issues, while neglecting to mention we urged her to have her 30 year old roof replaced entirely, as it will continue to fail. We would go out to patch areas when she requested us to do so. It will continue to fail in various areas until it is replaced, and that has nothing to do with what we have done. We do guarantee our work, in fact we will even go back after a guarantee has expired, as we value our new and long time customers. Every call and email was answered. We are not in the office over the weekend but respond asap on Monday when we are back in the office. Weather is also a factor in determining when we are able to do work. If it rains or snows we have to juggle a schedule filled with other customer jobs and do the best we can to get out to every customer as soon as possible. All our crews are highly skilled, experienced, licensed and insured. We are confident knowing we maintained communication, provided professional service and completed the work as needed. If we do something that adversely affects someone's property we always do what we can to make it right, as on nobody is perfect, but we will always try to do what it takes to make it right. This was a fairly small project of various repairs, which was done appropriately and at a very good price. We urge this home owner to replace the entire roof, or the next contractor will experience the same."

*** UPDATED ***     The review below still stands as far as the actual roofing job goes.  I guess a C overall is a fair balance between an A and an F?   We needed part of the roof fixed - the roll-out roofing over our porch did not settle well, which wasn't their fault - it was done in colder weather and I understand its supposed to be able to heat up to settle flat.  The bubbles got worse after the nightmare winter. We contacted them about coming by to fix it.  That took a month, several games of phone tag, lots of excuses - and FINALLY - last week, it was done beautifully.

But AGAIN - they left their trash!!  Did not even bother putting it in bags or in our garbage bins. Literally, left a huge pile of trash sitting in our yard. We called, and were "promised" it would be taken care of in a couple of days. Nope. Still there.  I came outside yesterday to see the plastic backing from the roofing material blowing all over the yard and wrapped around our front fence.  Thank goodness it did not blow out in to the very busy street we live on and cause an accident.   So at 9 months pregnant, I spent 10 minutes picking up the garbage they left.   I left them a voicemail.  No call back, no response. Trash is still there.   We wiill have to pay for excess trash pickup bags and my husband will have to take care of it himself this weekend.

I have dealt with great professionals and awful professionals since we bought this house, but I can definitely say I've never had to deal with a professional company that can't be bothered to pick up their own garbage.  Ridiculous.   Now we have a warranty thats pretty much pointless,  because we'd rather pay another company than deal with them again after this.

_________________________________________
This was the 4th and final roofing company we contacted for an estimate to deal with some roof leaks in our large, century-old 2 family home.   One of the 4 did not show up, the other two came and provided hand-written estimates.  After 2 cancellations, Evan came to our house and I was pleasantly surprised.  He left us with shingle samples - and was the only one to provide us with an estimate for a repair and a full replacement to deal with a leak in our roof.  The two others had insisted the entire roof needed replacing and would not even consider a repair.  Evan said a repair would be fine to stop the leaks, but that if we planned on being in the house for more than another 5 years, replacing it made more sense.
He asked us what our lowest estimate was, did some calculations, and then said he could beat it by a few hundred dollars.   That pretty much sealed the deal.  We received a PDF detailed estimate via email within 24 hours, and the questions I had were answered within hours of emailing.
Though only time will tell, the roof looks nice and we have not had leaks since it was done.   The work was done very quickly over the course of 2 days.
However, I have to say we had ONE problem.  There was a pallet of roofing supplies left in our driveway, which prevented the residents of the downstairs unit from parking in their spot.   Despite several texts, with always prompt responses that it would be taken care of, the pallet remained for 6 days after the job was completed (I'll only count 5 though, since one was Thanksgiving).   The downstairs residents were pretty irritated, so I ended up parking on the street for several days so that they could park.   Not the end of the world, but not ideal either.

I called for an estimate. Evan came by looked at the job and sent me an estimate. his estimate was the best from the other two i got. The crew came in in the morning Evan showed up a little later and went over the work with me. The crew worked for about 3/4 of the day clean up and in the mean while Evan showed up. He went over the finished job with me. I paid him.  It was as easy as i described above.
