It is the older lumber yard in the island. I can’t remember if I got the skylight from them or not and I still have an open account there and even if you don’t use the account they don’t close it. I was doing a lot of community development work and it is money down to the state through the executive office at the community development. I also did that here back in 90’s and I didn’t do it all the time. I did work with PRI Community Development Corporation and another one where I live called a Hill Town Development Corporation and between the two of them I did about 40 contracts with H N Hinckley over the course of 20 years. After 2008 things really warmed down for me because in terms of getting project I was getting under cut and incredibly sore to the point where you might as well stay at home. I used to be like one of three or four bidders on projects and after 2008 it was like 20 bidders. The people behind the counter and the people in the office are all right there but the people that deliver and work in the yard is a different story. They were pretty competitive with other Hinckley’s which was in the other part of New Haven. I would call both places and go to the cheapest and I could pick and choose. Every lumber yard is high on certain things. There is competition and they were never over the top although other company could be pretty high priced. They didn’t have competition and they started a lot of stuff that the other lumberyard didn’t. They were always good at ordering things and always good at getting hold of me. Everything was suitable and a lot of stuff that I did would be grand programs and there were certain criteria that had to be met to start with and it had to be something or equal and they always either had it or could get it. They don’t do any mill work there and it is just middle stuff. If I want windows I order Jeld Wen, Marvin’s, Henderson’s or whatever through them and they carry lumber and painting lumber and cedar shingles and they use ton of cedar shingles down there. They are always good. Regarding responsiveness if it was a Saturday afternoon it wasn’t good and I never call on a Monday or Friday. It is an island and nobody wants work so you need to have a foresight while dealing with them, they were good. I seldom had a problem and I never had anything that was broken. It sucks when you have to wait a month for something that you specially ordered and it is defective when arrives but I never had that problem with them. They are like third or fourth generation of employees and they were there before waters receded. The other company was dealing with the rich people right away and Hinckley’s work with working class people.
