Cummington Supply

One of the reasons why I haven’t used the other provider as much as I might because of Cummington Supply.  They are a small lumber yard and have very good pricing but basically you have to order almost everything.  They have some pretty good dimensional lumber and trim.  They are a good place to go to.  It’s surprising that the grand programs that I worked in here they didn’t allow for cedar shingles because they are expensive but they do a lot of vinyl siding but on Vineyard they don’t allow vinyl siding but only allow cedar shingles because of the proximity to the coastal line.  It was considerably cheaper than anywhere else and the reason it was because they had a surplus of cedar shingles that hadn’t sold out and they wanted to rotate the stock because some of the other edges of the bundles had a little bit of water staining on them but in the application that I had it didn’t matter so I bought shingles from there.  They are a family operation and they always don’t get along.  The pricing was good.  They don’t have a contracted discount but everybody gets the same price and it is a good price and that’s why they are still in business because they have a very affordable price range.  They are just middleman for other distributors and they don’t do any mill work or manufacturing and that’s up to the contractor.  In terms of answering phones and taking the order they do deliver.  After 30 years they just started charging for delivery this year.  Regarding responsiveness on Tuesdays to Thursdays they are real good but Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays aren’t the greatest.  They have always delivered when they said they are going to and how could you miss them as they are always there.  They are very professional.  It is one of the last mom and pop outlets around and they are few and far in between.  ??????
