The owner of Handyman Heroes contracts with other people who actually do the job.  The man who came to remove the hot tub did a very good job.  I also had planned to redo the deck but their price was, in my opinion, very high so I did not hire them to do that and will have someone else do the deck.

Solid professional job.  The team of two (three for one high section) were excellent, knew their job and did it well.

They did some work before and they were really reliable. They finished something because we had a porch door and closed door and put drywall inside the house.

Handyman Heroes did an excellent job. The owner came out to see what we wanted done and within a day or so provided a detailed list of quotes for the various tasks.   A couple of the basement windows we were replacing were nonstandard sizes, but he was able to work with a local window company to have the windows custom made at a reasonable cost.  The craftsman who came out to actually do the work was highly skilled, friendly, and cooperative.  The work was accomplished on time, and all residue was removed.

Not happy with him at all. Took him so long, I thought he was going to do the work. He was sub-contracting out the work to other contractors, that's where he kind of screws himself out of jobs. Anybody with any common sense is going to be able to tell, especially that does this kind of stuff all the time, they're going to know where this guy is coming from. If that's his way of doing business that's up to him.

I lost money doing business with him to be honest with you, because I had a tenant ready to move in on a certain date and he said that he could have everything done by that date, but it took him two weeks to even find somebody to do the job. I lost rent money on that job.

I was trying to be as patient with him as I could, but after that I just said "No way, I'm never using this guy again!"

I found another guy to do the job for half the price that he charged. I could see where him being in business for himself, he tacks something on for himself so he can make money, I get that part of it. It's just way out of pocket.

Overall they did a really nice job and they were on time. It is one guy and he has people that he contracts out. He came out and we looked at the work in the attic. When the other man came, he saw that he couldn't do the work like the other man thought so he had to up the price. The other man came back and they explained what they had to do and it was clear to me but it was an additional $200 or $300. It was a little disappointing because the guy had been here originally and should have known that they were going to have to do it a different way. It was a nice price but there was a misunderstanding.

I contacted Handyman Heroes by email and before I knew they were calling me. I explained my problem, gave them the info they needed and they called me a few days later after looking at the damaged that had occured and that it should be no problem to repair. They emailed me estimate which I thought was reasonable and gave them the go ahead to do the job. I got an email that they will start the job on 6/15/12. I don't know how long it took since I was live at another location, But I went to the house a week later 6/22/12 and was surprised the job was done and what a beautiful job they did. Excellent. I love it. I would difinitely use them again.

They have been absolutely excellent. Paul Silva is the office guy. He has sometimes been critical in his emails. He said my tenant upstairs had been intrusive. Mike, the carpenter, said it wasn't true. That has been the only altercation. Mike is amazing. The cost has been good and I already have the bill.

From start to end I rate the quality of work performed by the Handyman was exceptional. However, after calculating the cost of the total job, $2305.00 minus materials and permit and cleaning, the total labor cost was $1720.00. The Handyman performing the work was on the job roughly twenty hours. That puts the labor rate at roughly $85 per hour. I don't think the person doing the work got anywhere near that amount per hour. If he did. great. But I doubt it. That means that the owner has built in a per hour rate for himself and added it to the rate of the Handyman doing the work.  I rate this company very high in quality and very high in price. I don't think the labor rate was fair but paid it anyway. In the future I will hire a single professional and get his hourly rate before starting the job.

They were good. The only thing that I did not like was that they had to do at least that much of work for them to work. They would not come for anything less than that. I could not call them again as I need to accumulate work for them to do. They did the flooring also and they did a very good job. I have to give them at least a days work. The price was right for what they did.

The job was done completely and well. The price seemed high for doing a job that took 1-1/2 hours labor.

Great experience. We received a timely estimate for the work, and the guys came as scheduled, right on time. The site of entry for the squirrels required some high ladder work, and the repair some out-of-the-box thinking - no problem for the 2 men sent to help us out. In addition to helping to repair the damage done, we also received advice about how to prevent them from coming back (namely by eliminating the access points). Have used them before, will use them again. Professional and consistently going beyond what is asked of them.

Excellent job overall. We've used these gentlemen before, and will use them again. Someone (Paul, I think) promptly came out to do an estimate, and on a timely basis emailed us his estimate. He then was willing to add on to the estimate the door portion of the job. The entire pre-job portion of the estimate was great. Paul corresponded with us via email several times to coordinate and communicate. On the day of the job, the 2 handymen showed up to do the job. The door was done professionally and without a hitch. They were willing to work with what we had, even though we initially did not have the right materials, and were willing to go get the correct material (we did, in fact, end up having the right materials). The window portion of the job went very well, too. One of the gentlemen took the time to explain to us exactly what the issue was, and that we might need to look for similar problems in other parts of the house, since the original builder cut some huge corners in installing the window. He even let us know about an issue with the vinyl siding, something that was not part of the estimate and job. I have no reservations giving an A+ rating to these men. Well done!

It went terribly wrong! The first contractor that showed up clearly did not have adequate carpentry skills. The railings were loose, there were exposed nails, joints did not line up, etc. I called the owner (Paul Silver) who agreed it would need to be fixed and he sent his "expert carpenter" to finish the job. The carpenter advised the whole had to be torn down and started again. This carpenter did an adequate job although he did not follow my instructions and I was not happy with the end result. The customization I asked for did not happen so I did not pay for it. The owner then added on fees that he said were retractions of discounts I had previously been given (not true). He brought me to small claims court -- I explained my story (along with pictures!). Needless to say he did not win the claim. He also brought other claims to court at the same time for more shoddy work. DO NOT USE THIS CONTRACTOR!!!!
Response from Handyman Heroes Inc
"IT IS MOST UNFORTUNATE THAT SHEHAS TAKEN HER MISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN TO SUCH AN EXTREME, CONTINUING TO FALSELY MALIGN US YEARS AFTER HER PROJECT WAS COMPLETED. SHE FORGETS TO INCLUDE SUCH DETAILS AS THAT WE DIDN'T JUST BUILD HER ONE DECK, IT WAS 2 (FOR ONE, ORIGINAL COST). AFTER HER ORIGINAL COMPLAINTS, WE RESPONDED BY IMMEDIATELY RIPPING OUT ALL OF THE INITIAL WORK, PUT OUR MOST TALENTED 30-YEAR MAN ON THE JOB FOR REBUILDING IT TO HER SPECS, UNDER HER SUPERVISION, AND HAD HIM GIVE UP HIS WEEKEND PERSONAL TIME SO THAT SHE COULD SUPERVISE HIM DIRECTLY WITHOUT IT INTERFERING WITH HER OWN WORK SCHEDULE. THE END RESULT IS ONE THAT WE'D LIKE TO POST PICTURES OF ON OUR WEBSITE, EXCEPT FOR HER IRRATIONAL SUBSEQUENT BEHAVIOR. SHE CONVENIENTLY OMITTED THE LITTLE DETAIL ABOUT HER COMPLAINING ABOUT OUR WORK TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU (THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US IN 6 YEARS AND OVER 2,000 SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED PROJECTS), THAT THEY DEEMED HER COMPLAINTS UNREASONABLE, DEEMED OUR RESPONSE IN BUILDING HER A COMPLETE 2ND SOLUTION (FOR NO ADDITIONAL COST) HIGHLY REASONABLE, AND DISMISSED HER CLAIM. SHE MENTIONS BEING OVERCHARGED. THE SCOPE OF THE WORK (MOSTLY COSMETIC IN NATURE) WAS HIGHLY DETAILED IN OUR ESTIMATE. BUT ONCE THE WORK WAS IN PROGRESS, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT ADDITIONAL STRUCTURAL WORK WAS REQUIRED TO PROPERLY PERFORM THE CONTRACTED COSMETIC WORK. THERE WAS NO WAY TO ANTICIPATE DISCOVERY OF MAJOR STRUCTURAL DEFECTS UNDERNEATH THE TRIM LAYER OF HER PROJECT, AND IT WAS NOT PART OF THE ESTIMATE. THAT ADDITIONAL NECESSARY WORK REQUIRED ADDITIONAL LABOR EXPENSE, UNFORTUNATELY. AND IT REPRESENTED A NEGLIGIBLE PORTION (ABOUT 5% AS BEST AS I CAN RECALL; PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS SCENARIO PLAYED OUT SEVERAL YEARS AGO, THOUGH THE FORMER CUSTOMER CAN OBVIOUSLY NOT LET IT GO). WHY DIDN'T SHE MENTION THE GREAT LENGTHS WE TOOK TO BE CONSIDERATE OF HER PLANTINGS, WITH OUR DESIGNING A CUSTOM SOLUTION TO ADD A SKIRT TO HER DECK THAT WOULD BE BUILT AROUND, AND NOT REQUIRE DISTURBING ANY OF HER MATURE PLANTINGS. MAYBE HER RESPONSE WOULD GIVE YOU MORE INSIGHT: "SHE WAS PLANNING TO RELOCATE THE PLANTINGS, AND WE SOMEHOW SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT, AND THAT BUILDING AROUND THEM WASN'T HELPFUL". DIDN'T SHE MENTION THAT SHE FALSELY ACCUSED US OF INSTALLING THE DECKING BOARDS UPSIDE-DOWN? WHOMEVER WAS ADVISING HER DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF "CROWNING" OF THE TREE RINGS IN THE BOARDS, AND THE REQUIREMENT TO INSTALL THE TOP OF THE CROWN ON THE UPSIDE SO THAT "CUPPING" OF THE BOARDS IS NOT POSSIBLE. HER ADVISER INSTEAD THOUGHT THAT THE MANUFACTURER'S STAMPS MUST HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BOARDS, SO THAT ANY BOARD THAT WE INSTALLED SHOWING THE MAKER'S STAMP HAD TO BE UPSIDE DOWN. WRONG. WHY DIDN'T SHE MENTION HER INSISTING THAT THE INK OF THE MAKER'S STAMPS WOULD NOT FADE NATURALLY, AS DESIGNED, AND THAT WE HAD TO COME BACK & SAND IT OFF (WHICH WE DID IMMEDIATELY). ALL OF THIS CUSTOMER'S ISSUES, NO MATTER HOW WACKY, WERE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY & PROPERLY, AND PROFESSIONALLY, UP UNTIL THE POINT WHERE SHE EXPECTED US TO FURNISH HER WITH A 3RD DECK. YOU WILL NOT FIND A MORE ATTRACTIVE, OR BETTER BUILT ONE THAN THE 2ND ONE WE PROVIDED HER ANYWHERE. THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU REJECTED HER ABSURD CLAIMS. YOU MUST AS WELL. BUT UNFORTUNATELY THIS STUFF LIVES ON UNTIL INFINITY ON THE INTERNET."
