 + 1 moreHe kept delaying a couple weeks at a time right through the summer and fall. The end result was I never saw Derek Duchaine, the material, or my $9,000 again.
Description of Work: Took bid to add dormers and a new roof. Signed a detailed contract outlining the work and payment schedule. The bid was over $25,000 and as the job approached I wrote 3 checks totalling $9,000 for the materials he was to deliver to the site.

 + 0 moreRegarding the driveway, he said his subcontractor was not able to do the work. I had given him a $4,300 deposit. He wrote me a check to return the deposit and it bounced. Then he said he would work off the money and had me buy supplies. I called and called and he never came to work it off. On the roofing, it started leaking into the house. I had another contractor come and he said there was no flashing and it was not done properly. Derek seemed to be a nice person, but clearly not an honest one.
Description of Work: Had planned to do our driveway and had completed some roofing repairs.

 + -1 moreWhat D&D Construction did to my house was not only illegal but down right dangerous and a complete and utter nightmare.
Description of Work: We originally hired Derek Dechaine and his company D&D Construction out of Taunton, Ma to redo our bathroom and refinish the basement. There were 2 contracts and he broke both of them. He never finished any of the work he was hired to do and everything he did do needs to be replaced by a real professional. The shower he put in upstairs makes a god awful screeching sound every time we run the shower and the walls he put in are now cracking. He put up walls and ceilings in the basement with no insulation only to say that it would be blown in later (which never happened because he quit) He also put in illegal plumbing and illegal electrical which needs to now be redone. We have raw sewage coming back into the house from the plumbing he put in. My entire house smells like sewer now and we have a brand new baby in the house. He never got any permits for any of the work he did which is against the law. We gave him $14,000.00 and he quit through a text message which is highly disappointing and unprofessional. We had several contractors, plumbers, etc. come in to look at what he had done and they all agreed that he did around $5,000.00 worth of work and it all was wrong, poorly done and illegal. Derek wouldn't show up for weeks at a time if he showed up at all. We started this project back in November of 2013 and here we are the end of April 2014 and nothing is finished and everything is a mess. He basically destroyed my house and it's going to cost thousands and thousands to fix what he did. Derek constantly asked us for more and more money in which he would refer to us as "you people" and it was in the contract that he wasn't supposed to get anymore money until the work was completed and that's pretty much when he just quit. He also destroyed the side yard to my house by getting stuck in the mud repeatedly which is now causing rain water to come into the basement every time it rains...and not only that he wrote his initials in the wet cement in my garage like a teenager that he never fixed. He crushed the drain pipe to our washer machine so we can't even do laundry. He left a dumpster at my house and when I called the company to come get it and they asked for his name they literally laughed! They stated that they knew him well because he owes them so much money. One of his employees came to get all of their tools because Derek didn't pay him which was pretty much a dead give away that he is untrustworthy. Remodeling our home was supposed to be a happy time for us but unfortunately ended up a total nightmare. We did give Derek and his company the chance to make things right and finish the work we hired him to do only to have him quit via text message.Terrible, awful, unprofessional, and down right disappointing. We have documented everything including pictures, all the days he didn't show up and his down right rude text messages. I have filed complaints with the local building inspector and they said everything he did was illegal and they are going to go after his license. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well as the Construction registration board and I won't stop there. We now have to spend a fortune on a lawyer to get our money back plus the thousands it's going to cost to fix all of this. I will not rest and I will make it my life's mission to get our money back even if I have to go to court for the next 20 years! I would not recommend Derek Dechaine or his company D&D Construction to anyone. Ever. Please don't let this happen to you. I wish I would have done more research before hiring D&D Construction. Hiring him was the worst decision I have ever made in my life. He belongs on that show to catch a contractor. At the top where it says cost of service I put the price of the contract but it's going to cost 3 times that to fix what he did.

 + 0 moreThey are doing a house that my partner owns. We are having two dormers put on the front of the house and a shed dormer on the back of the house plus reroofing and getting it shelled out so I can do the interior work myself. We last saw them last week, he wanted to know when it would be ready. I have some people in the house that are going to be leaving and some interior demolition to do so he was wanting a fifteen day window. He had an architect fellow came over and take very accurate measurements plus drop a set of plans for the building permit. Every thing that has been going on so far has been well done. I am very satisfied with it. They are very meticulous on the plans. He keeps in contact, he touches base on a regular basis. These are two contracts that include tearing the roof off your house so winter time is the best time to stage it. As soon as we get a break in the weather, we are going to hit both projects. That's going to be in the neighbourhood of twenty five thousand. They always show up when they say they will, and if they have to come back for a measurement they will give us a call an appointment. They are very responsive, the permits are already in place so we are set for the weather at this point.

 + 1 moreDerek and his crew did a great job building a half-bath in our home. He provided a reasonable estimate and kept to it, and let us know up front when our additional requests would result in extra costs. We were very pleased with the craftsmanship, and the workers were polite, prompt and cleaned up after themselves nicely. They finished the job in a timely manner and communicated with us clearly about when they'd be working. We're very pleased, and are hiring them again for other projects.  + -1 moreI made a review on them on 2011 because they were good. It was a small company, just himself and one other person. He didn't have any business, he came in here and did two other things for me and he was excellent! And then they started getting bigger and well and they said that I'll be there in two weeks or in a week. Then finally I had a back splash that he had told me that he would put in. He told me to get the materials and I went and I got the materials. And everything was here,I was waiting for him to come and he always tells me that he'll be here next week. I waited for a month and finally I called and he dais that I need to get somebody else because it was a little too job for him. And I said I was with him when he was just one person and he didn't have anything going and he had financial problems. He was a local kid and I was one of his first customers. And I said I will never use him again and I will never give him a recommendation.
Description of Work: D&D Construction was supposed to do my back splash a year ago.

 + 0 moreHe does a very good and complete job. He is always here when he says he will be. When I asked if he would do a roofing project, he was very honest with me and told me that he is not a roofer.
Description of Work: He has done a lot of things for my around my home, including work on my kitchen cabinets and replacing hinges on my windows.
