The inspection process was very informative and thorough.  Steve reviewed all exterior portions of the house and grounds and uncovered a number of details that we would need addressed.  The same attention to detail was evident when the interior inspection occurred.  Steve made sure we were in the rooms he was working and made a special point to explain all the issues he was noting in the report.  He even provided tips on how to treat, who to call, when to fix, etc..  It was a terrific education.
His knowledge of construction techniques, insulation properties, and major system function was of particular value.  Steve was honest in his assessment and we really felt like he had our interests at heart.
I highly recommend Steve for any home inspection needs.

Last year we decided that it was time to sell our large home and move into a smaller one. We had a specific of the type of property in mind, but finding the right house turned out to be more difficult than we expected. Steve inspected five houses for us. The first four had many flaws. We would have been a lot poorer and filled with regret if we had purchased any one of them.
Steve went through each house in a thorough and systematic way, telling us about and documenting the pros and cons of each.

We ended up selling our house and not having a place to move into. Steve went out of his way to fit us into his busy schedule, even cutting short his vacation to help us with the latest prospect.

We are now happily settled into our new home. It isn't perfect, but we knew what work needed to be done before we bought it, thanks to Steve. I highly recommend that anyone considering buying a home go through it with a home inspector first and I highly recommend Steve Ducharme.

He spotted a number of issues that I'd overlooked (and I've owned an old house before, so I look pretty well), and was obviously knowledgeable about the local housing stock. He did, however, miss one substantial problem: the whole electrical system was without a proper neutral -- the cable was broken, and the house was using the cable TV line to complete its circuit back to earth. (When the cable guy disconnected the overhead line, the house lost power.) Of course, it was snowy, the house is perched on a steep hill and footing was treacherous, and the side of the building was a rat's nest of both active and old cabling. I missed the problem too, and fixing it wasn't difficult or expensive. Every house inspector misses something, and while I can't give him a perfect rating, he did a better job than several other inspectors I've used, and I'd still hire him again.

He talked through each aspect of the inspection and helped us understand what he was looking at and for. Overall he was professional and thorough, and made us comfortable through the process.

Steve Ducharme suggested that we contact our electrician for an estimate. We were satisfied with his report. We would have purchased the house, but my husband passed away a week later.

He is awesome. He is very thorough, he is very personable, and he is very honest. He tells you what is wrong and what you are looking at as far as price, but he doesn’t make you want or not want the home. It’s hard to find a home inspector that doesn’t input their opinion. I was looking at a house but it had bowing in the roof so he went to go investigate. The access to the attic was sealed off by the homeowner and, at that point, he disclosed to me that he had done an inspection for this house eight to nine months prior and he knew it needed major work. It was awesome of him to say something because he waited to go see if work had been done since he was last there. The selling agent was supposed to disclose that information to us but he didn’t so it was really awesome that Steve told us. He offered to discontinue the inspection at that point because it was really shady for the people to close off the access. He gave us a discounted rate even though he had already done quite a bit of work on the exterior of the house. He is the most flexible home inspector that I’ve ever met. His price is expensive but it’s worth it because he does a lot more than normal home inspectors.
