A & L Plumbing Heating & Cooling

Awful experience and job performed. Had two furnaces replaced and took 5 days to perform the work because of the jobs they were juggling. Paid in full upon completion only to find out that they didn’t complete the install on one of the furnaces, neglected to put a filter box (no filter). Tried for over a month to try and get them back to finish the work and kept getting excuses. Finally called a reputable company and found out that A&L installed top of the line American Standard furnaces and that one of the furnaces could haves heated a 3,500 square foot home, I have a 900 Square foot apartment. Also was advised that without proper returns installed, the motors for both furnaces would have lasted less than 5 years. After spending another $1,800, I wish I went with a more reputable firm that knows heating. Don’t gamble your hard earned money with this company.

Everyone was timely and the work got done within the week, even though the magnitude of the issue increased when they discovered how far gone the old pipe was. The repair was smooth, and although the work was disruptive - kitchen rather out of commission and parts in the house - they cleaned up the place really well and in the end the section of the kitchen demo'd and repaired looked terrific. I'd say better than before but they did a good job of blending so it didn't look too much better than the rest of the kitchen. The only point off is some debris left in the basement (in a bucket) that we needed to dispose of. Everything else was terrific. And I know they're responsive because I have already asked Paul for an estimate on another plumbing repair in our old house.

We have used Paul and his crew several times now for a variety of issues that have come up. With the past two Winters we unfortunately have run into multiple issues. 
1- Paul and his team have come to purge out heating system when it failed us. 
2- They came last year when we had a frozen pipe in our garage and our water meter broke. They came again this week when we had a burst pipe in our living room and quickly fixed the problem. 
3- We had a supply valve break off out of nowhere this summer and paul and his team came to replace that. 
We have always received a quick call back and they have arrived within a reasonable amount of time. Any time there was going to be a wait, we were kept informed and given advice on what to do in the meantime. Everyone that we have worked with us been knowledgeable and polite. We are more than pleased with the quality of work and the rapid service we've received. We'd highly recommend Paul and his crew to anyone needed scheduled or emergency service in the area.

A & L Plumbing did plumbing  and heating work for us for several years. Their work quality was OK -- although my new plumber has replaced a few valves they installed with easier-to-operate gate valves -- but I stopped using them because of their attitude while doing the work. I found them surly, grumpy and grumbling every time they were here. It was unpleasant and uncomfortable.
 I appreciate it when a plumber points out things that "you might want to think about doing the next time I'm here," but with A & L, it felt like they could barely tolerate doing the  job they were called in to do and couldn't wait to get out the door. Who needs that?

Sink installed improperly and leaked.
Sink faucet installed improperly and did not work correctly.
Shower diverter/valve installed improperly and did not work correctly.
Toilet installed improperly.
Damage done - but not addressed by plumber (frustrating!).
Not careful. Messy. Rude. Unprofessional.
Very unhappy with both the quality of the work of the plumber AND the attitude of the owner of this company.

Scheduling a visit was unprofessional and frustrating.  Most contact was via email.  30 mins to an hour after each appointment I checked in with him only to find that he was either not showing up.  Or would not be showing up for several hours.  Perhaps his work is great - but I will find another contractor who values my time.  I'll let the emails speak for themselves - read from the bottom up.

Very well. Two visits were  needed to accomodate the necessary electrical work.

The quote from A&L was 1 of 3 and was middle of the pack. Considering the brand, model, and reviews on Angie's list for the type of work I needed, A&L was our choice. They were able to get the job done in the time frame I requested. All the plumbing included, the job took only 2 days. There were a few missed details I noticed with the duct work and plumbing but had corrected quickly . Overall, we are very happy with the new furnace and the promptness of the service. The price was reasonable and we got a top of the line model. After all the rebates, tax credits for the high efficiency unit and selling the left over oil, we made out better than if if we had just replaced the oil furnace.

They did a few things but the main thing was fixing our water radiator, plumbing, flushing it out and changing the coolant. They are pretty good in terms like when you call them up they will make appointments for the next day. They came out when they said they would. Everything is working fine, I did not have them came back out for anything.

Furnace died at the outset of the big snowstorm of January 12. Called the number and got the answering service and they got back to me within minutes and after trying to fix over the phone (thought it could be clooged exhaust from snow) they came within an hour in the middle off the 18" storm. He was able to determine what part went on the furnace and let me know there were no supply houses open due to the storm. He said he would get the part as soon as he could the next day which he did and came back to solve the heat problems

Mr. Erlich returned our phone call promptly (within hours) and came out the next morning. He was even earlier than the 3 hour window he had given us. We were happy the problem was a simple fix and appreciative that we weren't told we needed more work than was necessary. We were happy to pay for the knowledge, especially given the responsiveness and punctuality. We will definitely use Mr. Erlich in the future if we have any plumbing or A/C problems. I didn't rate excellent on price and quality given the simplicity of the work that was required.

It went very well. There were some overages ($$) that I did not expect, but overall their work was good and they came in on time. They have been very responsive to minor issues since we have moved in.

Excellent job. They came on schedule, brought enough people, cleaned everything, programmed the thermostat and showed mw how the furnace worked and how to replace filters. They finished the job for the estimated price. They did ask for 50% up front, which I normally wouldn't agree to, but they did the job three days after the estimate.

I don t know if he takes on new work because I rarely see new ads for him. He is an Irish guy and we like him a lot. We trust him. He's done many projects for us. He is very reliable and he often, like a lot of the good ones, develops his own property so for us he fits us in whenever he can. He is very accommodating. We would give him all good marks. My husband and I think he's great at what he does.

WE HAD THE SAME COMPANY DO THE SAME REPAIR 10/2001 FOR $525. THEY CHARGED $1,366 THIS TIME. I CALLED ABOUT THE PRICE BECAUSE I FIGURED IT WAS A MISTAKE. THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME TIME, AND MATERIALS COST. THEY SAID THEY DO A FLAT FEE. I FIGURED THEY HAD CHARGED ME $225 PER HOUR FOR THE WORK. THEY ALSO DID A LOUSY JOB. THE TANK WAS RUSTED OUT, AND THEY DID NOT REPLACE IT. THE PUMP WAS ATTACHED LOOSELY TO THE RUSTED COVER, AND NOW IT SMELLS LIKE SEWAGE. I LOOKED AT THE TANK TOP, AND IT HAS HOLES RUSTED THROUGH. IF THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM PROPERLY THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE THE WORK! I NEED TO GET A NEW PLUMBER TO REPLACE THE TANK, AND REALLY FIX THE PROBLEM.
