They picked up my belongings and received payment They did NOT deliver them. They do not respond to messages. They did not respond to a Better Business Bureau complaint. So do NOT use this company. You may never see your belongings again.

The team of movers did a fantastic job of moving and being careful not to ruin the furniture.   I would definitely hire them again if I ever needed to move!

We signed up to use HMS Moving after doing a lot of research on Angie?s List and other venues.  To say the least, the service we received absolutely did not match up to the reviews we had read or the service we were promised.
We met with an estimator before our move.  He came to the house, did a full inventory and provided us with a quote of $1,950 (including an overnight hold, because initially, we didn?t think we would be able to move in one day due to closing dates). We were impressed with his professionalism and his flexibility, which is why we chose them over the other five or so movers that we got quotes from, even though they weren?t actually the cheapest.  In the end, the closing dates worked out, so we let them know two weeks before that we would actually be able to complete the move all in one day.  They said no problem and would update the order.
The head mover and one of the movers seemed okay, although not highly efficient, but the 3rd guy is not someone we would have ever paid money for.  He was completely inefficient and to be honest, lazy.   (An example? one of the other guys was taking the doors off of our refrigerator and the 3rd guy just stood there and watched him for 20 minutes instead of continuing to move things out of the house.)
We had to be out of our house by 6pm for a walkthrough.  We made this clear at the beginning of the day.  Yet, the movers did not call in at any point in time to say that they would not make that time - or to ask for more help.  My husband finally called dispatch who apologized and told him that if they knew it was a one day move, they would have sent more people.  We have email confirmation from them 10 days earlier that they knew it was a one-day move and would make changes accordingly.  In the end, we had to bargain for additional time with our buyers, and had to leave half of our stuff sitting on the lawn in order to get out in time.  This caused an issue with our buyers but we were lucky and they were flexible.
Due to the inefficiences, the move took two days and STILL was not completely done.  We ended up putting together all the furniture, the refrigerator was not put back together, we had to bring car loads of stuff over, and about half our stuff had to be relegated to the garage because there simply wasn?t enough time to put it where it belonged, leaving a lot of work for our family.
Efficiencies aside, basic services of moving were not done.  A couple of examples? 1) Everything was very well labeled - yet boxes were put in completely wrong areas.  I?m 7 months pregnant and the reason I hired movers was so that I wouldn?t have to move boxes all around my house.  2) Boxes marked ?fragile? and ?top load? were put underneath multiple boxes of books (our most fragile box was under 4 book boxes).  In the end, all of our red wine glasses broke, as did many sentimental fragile items.
Lastly, the invoicing and billing was a disaster.  As I said, the quote was for $1,950.  With the unnecessary $100 hold overnight charge, it netted out at $1,850.  Our total for the move - even though nothing had changed and the estimator came to our house - was $3,153.27.  We had other movers that guaranteed that their actual rates would never be more than 10% of the estimate and we really wished we had gone with them.  We then spent way too much time after the move trying to get on the phone to discuss these issues and primarily to ensure that the Angie?s List Deal we bought be credited correctly.  In the end, they gave us a credit for that deal, but it took way too long to get there.
Overall, we were very disappointed in our entire move.  We?ve moved many many times in our lives and this was the worst move we had - the value and cost do not line up for us and we would never recommend this company again.

I refrained from submitting my review immediately since my frustration level was high.  Having had time to reflect I can be fair in my assessment.
The move was characterized by both positives and negatives. Overall, the move went find until the truck arrived a day late due to a problem with the brakes.  Issues happen so I wasn't too worried since this was identified early.  However, we then ran into a problem with available local staff who could hellp unload in NJ.  This sent things downhill for me.The truck sat in my driveway for 2-3 hrs in the rain  while the driver waited for help. It really got to the point where I was left wondering whether any help would be identified. I called the Stoughton office and could find no one in the office or on call because it was a Sat. In the end. 1 extra person was found instead of 2. It took them longer than usual to unpack as a result.
My items were moved with only minor damage, but having done 3-4 interstate moves, this was by far the most problematic.  Hence the reason for the "C" overall.  When I discussed the issue with the general manager on Monday, I fellt like he tried to minimize my frustration since the issue was addressed in the end re: the missing help. I think having to "find" help the day of a move is a big deal and is an issue that needs to be fixed in the North American Van Lines network.
Positives
Price was competitive (solicited 4 bids)
Showed up on time for loading in Cambridge and carefully packed my items
Very responsive sales associate for any questions and concerns
Very knowledgeable and experienced driver
Negatives
Had to find help on day of move in
Move in time was extended as a result
Some damage
Requested supplemental insurance: and signed paperwork on Cambridge end: HMS never followed up on this
Moving coordinator was not proactive on follow up- usually had to call her: to get final price, to ask about use of credit cards, etc.

I initially called HMS movers to get some information regarding a deal being offered on Angie's List for $500 worth of moving services for $249. My initial experience was pleasant. I spoke with Keith in mid April about my move on April 8th. During this call I briefly explained to him my apartment and the belongings I had and asked if some dates were available. He recommended to me that I book everything through the Angie's List Website and then once I did that someone from HMS would contact me. Me mentioned that they could come to my apartment to get an accurate idea of what types of furniture I had etc to determine how many people and the size of the truck needed.
I booked and paid for my move via Angie's List on April 23rd.
I got an email from Keith saying that May 8th was all set and booked on April 24th. But then I heard nothing from the company at all. No phone calls, no follow up, no nothing. When I booked online with Angie's list I provided my cell phone as a contact number.
On May 6th emailed them via Angie's list because I was nervous that I had not heard anything about the move in less than 2 days. On the evening of the 6th I got a reply email from Keith saying that he could come over to my apartment or that we could talk on the phone to get a more official estimate. I called him on the 7th and left a message. On the evening of the 7th we were able to connect over the phone. I explained that I was not feeling that great about this move as it seemed like this was all very last minute and that I was surprised that no one from HMS initiated the conversation about the move. He claimed that HMS movers tried to contact me numerous times via my work telephone number - which was no entered anywhere on my moving form. I called from that line but gave my cell phone as the number to call back. He also said that I did not respond to his email. He made it seem like this email was sent weeks before. When he texted me the email it was the one from May 6th that was REPLYING to my message. Never once did HMS take the initiative to contact me first about something. I arranged with Keith to have 3 movers and 1 truck come to my house on the 8th. He said that all of this was already on the schedule and that it was just a communication error with myself and HMS. We had debated for a while if I would need 2 movers or 3. I was concerned about the cost and Keith said "not to worry about it". I replied to him telling him that he can say that because he is not the person getting stuck with the bill.
The next day the movers did arrive on time and called before they got to my apartment to give me a heads up they were on their way. I will say that the movers did a fine job. The head mover was certainly letting the other 2 men do the brunt of the work and there was clearly not an equal division of physical labor but that didn't matter to me. They were efficient and nothing was damaged. However when talking to all three men, each of them on separate conversations said that this was a last minute job that they found out about at 9PM last night.....I got off the phone with Keith at 8:45PM.
At the end of the move the head crew leader asked me for payment. He had nothing on his paperwork that I had purchased an Angie's List deal and asked me for the full amount of the move. He also told me that I needed to pay that day. I feel that I should have been told be Keith that I would need to pay that day. On the phone with Keith he had said that we could work on the price given my experience and so I thought that would mean that I would pay after the move was done and I could talk to Keith again. The crew leader called his office but could not reach Keith. I had owed for the cost of the move less the Angie's List fee and the additional insurance I purchased. I chose to only pay for the total cost of the move less the Angie's List deal and did not pay for the additional insurance ($90) as it was clear that I pad to pay that day and that if I did, there would be no way of getting a deal in the price for my experience as Keith had mentioned. I feel that this was fair.
Overall I think that the actual mover themselves were fine but I did most of the coordination of the scheduling. The movers did not do the best at putting things in my basement but that was my own fault for maybe not giving the best instructions.

Walkthrough for price quote was professional.  Was not initally the lowest quote - but, I liked them.  They were able to match the price of a competitor.  As for the move, the Boston crew was excellent.  Arrived on time and were quick, efficient, and tidy.   My stuff arrived as promised.  A few boxes slightly squished, but nothing broken.  I'd use them again for a long distance move.

I had gone back and forth on choosing a moving company.  I have had bad experiences with them in the past.  So reading the reviews here I thought I would try HMS Van Lines.  I made an appointment with Mark.  Mark came out to the house and was very well dressed and professional.  I showed him all the things that needed to be moved.  The move had to go from the house to a storage facility and then to my own home west of the state.  Mark calculated everything and sent me a quote that night.  At first I thought it might be a little high but when compared with other companies it wasn't.  I even talked with the owner Keith whom assured me the move would go without an issue.
Sunday Morning.  The move was originally scheduled for 10 AM.  The movers and the truck were out front at 08:40.  I arrived at 09:15 and the move started.  It wasn't a whole house move but they had to move about 100 heavy boxes from the basement.  We offered cold drinks and the men kept on working.  They completed and we all drove out west of the state to meet them at the storage facility.  They showed up and started working immediately.  Once completed we went on to my own home.  No issues. Nothing broken or dropped.  The total move time was about 8.5 hours.
During the move some of the boxes I had were not any good.  The movers provided extra boxes and plenty of tape to fix that.
I would definitely hire this company again for a move.

HMS is top notch.  We were immediately impressed during the sales process with Keith's description of how our household contents would be handled, the homes' doors and lawns protected at origin and destination, and how our goods would be held for several days between origin and destination due to the timing of our sale and purchase.  His bid was very competitive among the three that I received and the final cost met that estimate.  Customer service was solid.  This is a company that knows their business intimately and values their customers to the utmost.
The packing and moving crew did a terrific job.  They were very efficient on both ends (origin and destination), careful with our goods (and with the baby birds nesting on our front storm door), and were nice guys too.  We are not finished with the unpacking yet, but have not come across any damage and doubt there will be any.
I would highly recommend HMS Van Lines for your move!

They were excellent. I underestimated what was going when I met with mark , the sales man but they made adjustments and the move went very smoothly. The men they sent were hard working and very helpful. They made all the stops necessary and were always ready to work. I have moved many times but this was by far the best group of movers I have ever used. I got the discount coupon through Angies list which brought the cost down $250. Highly recommend them. Keith, mark ,Brandon and others were great to work with

I was impressed from start to finish.  The sales rep Mark gave us an estimate of the truck size needed and he was spot-on.  On the day of the move, the crew of four arrived about fifteen minutes before our requested time, which gave us a good start for a walk-through and letting them know details about where things were going.  We had asked the truck to make two stops once in Gloucester: the first was to a second-hand store where three pieces of furniture were being donated and the second was the house we were moving to.  Everything went seamlessly; the crew was professional, helpful and focused.  All furniture was wrapped.  My husband and I had had plenty of time to pack boxes which we'd moved over a period of time to the new home, so the majority of stuff being moved was furniture.  I hadn't realized, but this made packing the truck more difficult because there were no boxes to take up the different size spaces.  The crew did an incredible job of packing a very challenging jigsaw puzzle.  They were very efficient and made sure that we were pleased with where furniture had been placed.  The final cost came in under what was estimated - a nice surprise.  We were very pleased with everything and would definitely use them again if the need arose.

They are doing a very good job. We are moving internationally and they are doing the entire move. The move is still in progress. They came to our house and packed everything up. They moved it to a storage unit, my parents house and part of our belonging are already being shipped overseas. They were really responsive to emails and they are easy to deal with. I deal with Kevin mostly.

We did a LOT of research on moving companies and in the end went with HMS and Keith Orlandella due to his excellent customer service and ability to address all of our concerns up front. Driver and movers on both ends were efficient and careful with our belongings and everything arrived in good condition other than a few scrapes and scratches. My one main complaint was that no plastic or paper was put down on our floors to protect against the movers going In and out all day. With that being said, we were happy with the service provided and the cost. Moving was so stressful and HMS was able to make it less stressful. I would recommend this company for your moving needs.
