First of all, I never got an estimate; in fact, I never heard back after he came to take measurements. He was incredibly surly and unresponsive. I got the impression that I was wasting his time and that he didn't want to be there, and that seems to be the case given the lack of followup. He was outright rude, ignored my questions, and just generally gave me a very bad impression. I certainly would not have gone with him even if he had given me an estimate.

Dave worked within our time schedule and completed the job exactly as we had discussed. He came on the days he said he would and constructed the pergola to the exact specifications. At one point, we thought the pergola would be too tall. Dave called us immediately and raised the concern, so we were able to lower the height to a better level. We were also concerned about a zig-zag bracing element in the design and asked Dave if he would add some trim to the pergola to straighten the center support. He did so without hesitation. He also had to router some of the wood because we installed conduit on the outside of the pergola. His work was flawless and hid the conduit perfectly. Dave had to delay part of the work until Ideal Landscaping completed a paver installation. He continued to check in with us while the paver installation was occurring and immediately completed the pergola when the pavers were installed. Dave billed us at the end of the project. We are very pleased with Dave's work and professionalism. We intend to hire him for additional projects at our home.
