Our 100 year old family heirloom 8x10 Persian rug needed repair of two holes, new side borders that were badly tattered, and repairs to the fringes on both ends. Joe, the grandson of the founder, gave us low, medium and high estimates. He had told us that, despite the rug's age, it was worth repairing...although we could have bought a new rug for less. We chose the medium estimate - about $700 - which would have given us patch and glue fixes on the holes. When Joe brought the rug back after a couple weeks, he had fixed the holes using the more expensive way (all by hand) as he was unsatisfied with the medium method, but he kept his fee at the medium price. We were impressed with this level of professionalism. The borders and fringes were also repaired with skill. The rug looks beautiful. Based on the excellent work, we asked him to repair two other rugs (all of which include cleaning), and they also turned out perfectly.
On an offhand chance, I asked Joe if he had any stair runners for sale - particularly inexpensive used orientals. A few days later he showed up with two  - one new and one used...we liked the new one with a price tag well above our budget. To make a long story short, Joe gave us an amazing deal we couldn't refuse on the new one., and we are delighted.
Throughout the month or so time period we dealt with Joe, he was always professional, courteous, prompt, extremely knowledgeable (giving us free advice on some other rugs), and highly skilled. We recommend him unconditionally.
