I also MUST add that I called ASC two times to change my install due to delays in painting rooms, etc.. The customer service appt. setters were courteous, accommodating and we had a few laughs. I called a third time to ask if we could move up our scheduled date due to completing our tasks earlier than anticipated. They were able to make that change and we are very pleased! Great job- ACS! We bought our carpet at Home Depot and they subcontracted the installers. Thank you Tom at Westfield Home Depot for making our purchase affordable and easy with a perfect ending.
This was a replacement of carpet in three rooms as well as the runner on an oak staircase in my 1910 home. When the measurer arrived, I was clear that I wanted the new carpet to include a runner down the stairs, similar to the one that was in place when the measurer arrived. I later went to store and completed purchase.
The installers were from American Carpet. They arrived at 4:45 p.m., during my 1 to 5 pm window.
As they proceeded to totally cover my stairs, placing tack strips on not only the oak stairs but adjoining pieces of woodwork, I told them to stop and showed them how I had wanted a runner. Despite some language problems, I thought I was clear by demonstrating to them on the actual stairs the width of the runner etc. They nodded in agreement.
When I arrived back home, they were finishing up at 11:00 P.M. They had proceeded to cover the stairs completely, turning a beautiful 1910 oak staircase into what looked like a 1950's reno. The side of the staircase has carpet on the edges that make it look like shag carpeting.
I called Home Depot to explain, and they seemed to have trouble understanding the issue. I then called American Carpet and was assured that AC would come back out, remove the carpeting from the stairs, assess the damage to the stairs and woodwork caused by the install. After two weeks i called AC back, and there seemed to be no record of my previous complaint.
The customer service rep told me that AC would come out and make good, I scheduled another appointment with AC for Jan. 7, 2014. On arriving, the service person had no details of my previous calls and complaints.
When he started to remove the carpet from the stairs, it was clear that tack strips were hammered in to the stairs at the end of each stair, damaging the oak stairs. The bottom step which is curved oak, was totally covered in carpet. When he attempted to remove the carper, a chunk of very visible wood came off the bottom stair. The installer took pictures of all the above, including damage to an adjacent wall, and sent them back to AC.
AC called me back and said that since the Home Depot measurer had indicated to cover the stairs, rather than replace the runner as I had pointed out to him, AC felt they had completed the jpb and bore no further liability, except perhaps for the wall repair.
When the carpeting is removed from the stairs, and a runner is installed (AT MY ADDITIONAL EXPENSE) I will also have to repair all the nail holes from the tack strips on the woodwork and stairs.
In addition, although I was replacing my carpet with a similar one, the installers a bedroom door un hinged as they did not have a plane to correct the clearance. On another clloset door, clearance is insufficient and I will also have to have that door
planed,
We have been in tight time crunch, buying carpet 2 weeks before move in day. Carpet was on special order sent from mill in GA. There was some uncertainty related to when carpet arrives and if they will be able to install it before the move. The carpet arrived quickly, however there were some issues with scheduling the install, during initial call from ACS to schedule the install I have been told that they could not schedule that week, so I had to call Home Depot and demand promised furniture move out/in service. However, several minutes after that, I have received a call from ACS manager who was able to schedule the install one day ahead of the move in. Installers arrived on time and did a good job. Carpet looks beautiful.
