Berkshire Cabinet Refacing was by far the lowest quote of the four companies we looked at. However, they offered the most options, and the highest quality materials. Dean Porter, the owner, was extremely easy to work with, he came prepared at our first meeting with several different sample materials, styles and finishes. He let us tell him what we wanted, then took his measurements and gave us a quote. He never gave us a hard sale or tried to push us to more expensive options. When he came to perform the work, he showed up on time, finished on time, and on budget. He also worked well with the electritian, plumber, and other contracters involved in the project. Dean was always polite, and took the time to clean up before leaving each day. We were extremely with this company.

First talked with Dean at the Springfield Home Show in March 2008. We were concerned because we live quite a distance from his business. He assured us that wasn't a problem, came to our home, gave us an estimate and we agreed on an August date. To be honest, his work was fantastic and we're very happy with what was done. Our problems come from two cabinet doors that no longer close properly. We sought Dean out at the Home Show the following March and he assured us that was no problem, he'd be in town on May 5 for a family gathering and would stop by, and would we mind writing a letter saying how happy we were with his work. May 5 came and went with no sight of him. So did June, so I sent the letter, which I had expected to give him personally, and included a note reminding him of the promise to stop by. Still no contact from him. I called a couple times, got his answering machine, left a message, but got no callback. With each message I had left my husband's business number for a callback so we could schedule a time for him to come. Finally at the beginning of August I left a very pointed message asking if he intended to ever contact us. The next day there was a message on our home machine chastising me for my rudeness, reminding me that he had said those two doors might pose problems (he'd apparently forgotten he'd said he'd come back if that proved true), was "a one-man operation", that we lived a distance from his business (suddenly it was problem to come that far) and saying he had been out of town for over a month (there was no indication of an extended absence on his machine. The message assured the caller of a callback "as soon as possible.") I immediately called back, got the machine again, left an apologetic message and my husband's number again and said I looked forward to apologizing in person (I just wanted the guy to come back and fix my cabinets.) We got another message, again on our home machine, saying he would be there the next day, but we would need to call to confirm or he wouldn't come. Since he knew that the reason for leaving a business number had been that we needed at least a day's notice to arrange time off, wouldn't be home in time to call back before he closed, and he was choosing to leave messages where he knew it would be too late to call back, we figured this was his way of saying we were on our own. We gave up contacting him. I know this was probably something that could have been resolved if we could have talked to each other instead of using answering machines, but that's what happened, though we provided contact numbers. I would say if you have a straight, problem-free job, he's your man. He will do excellent work. But anything in the nature of a followup could be a problem.
