I have used them several times in the past to prune my trees and clean up after some storms. I find their prices to be competitive an the work has always been completed to my satisfaction.
I will use them again in the future.
The original quote was for ten trees at $3620. They ended up cutting down 12 trees instead of 10 and the owner wanted to charge me 4 hours at $250 an hour for the last two trees, another $1000. I thought that this was unreasonable and was willing to pay an additional $362 per tree ($3620/10) or $724 more. He complained that it took longer than his estimate and the problem with the snow delay on the first day. I did not think that this was my fault and if he couldn't make it up the driveway he should have postponed the first day and he could have made a better estimate. We compromised on the price. Aside from the issue of the final price, the crew was very professional and took great care to remove the trees and place them as I requested with no damage to my property.
I would consider using them again as long as it is made clear of all costs involved and they get their truck fixed.
I have two children and schedule around them. I wanted to be there when they started/finished - so I anticipated them showing up either Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. Monday would have been perfect as the weather was way above the freezing mark.
I think it then snowed again overnight Monday to Tuesday. At about 11AM on Tuesday I called the company asking them when they would show up. I was told that due to the new snow they were backed up for today. They will come on Wednesday (or was it even Thursday? - I honestly forgot) But I remember that it was a freezing cold day...and definitely not the beginning of the week as being told.
They showed up at 10:10AM. I am usually not particular about the minutes at all, but since they charge $55 per man per hour and I got a bill that said they started at 10AM there went the first 30 dollars...
Because of the freezing temperatures they had to hammer really hard. The whole house was shaking. Pictures/paintings moved on the walls. Well, it is a wooden house so to some extend it is expected, but we just kept thinking to ourselfs: That just cannot be good for the roof and why on earth would you do that on a day that is so freezing cold.
I also had to leave for parts of the day to attend to the kids schedule. At about 2-2:30pm we were told that they were "wrapping things up". Also, one of the three workers plowed our driveway for most of the day. He had offered to do that for free (except we were paying $55/hour and he was not on the roof).
At 4PM they left. Parts of the roof were not even done! Especially the family room that had the water damage still had snow and ice on it as well as the small west side. We were handed a $990 bill which was almost twice as much as expected, of course. Also, pieces of roof tile were scattered all over the snow in the front and back of the house. The biggest one measured 2x2 inches.
What really upset me though was, that I called them afterwards, not to complain, but to suggest that they perhaps have to give a better estimate because I chose them based on that (and I had other choices). I mean, in the end not only did I have to wait until at least the middle of the week for the snow removal, but I also paid much more than expected. And again, parts of the roof were not even done.
The secretary was very nice on the phone, however the owner was not! He was not only extremely rude, but also accused me of not "stopping them" so that the bill would not have been as high (what do you reply to that???) Plus, he said, they only do "gestimates".
They did offer to remove the last parts of the ice dams/snow off of the room with the water damage "for free". They came the following Monday and did that within one hour. They did damage our rhododendron bushes in the front of the house...surprise!
We will never use them again.
"Our company policy is that we don't place any special orders until the deposit is received and we didn't receive the deposit until May 26th the day the homeowner was expecting us to start. We spent a lot of time helping this customer get information together in order for her to get the loan she was applying for. Then when the job was complete it has take 8+ weeks to receive the final payment but was under the impression that she was happy with the work that was done. We stride to satisfy all of our customers and if we were aware of any problem we have rectified it immediately!"
