The Chimney Pro

The wind had blown off our chimney cap. It was still in good shape and just needed someone to climb on the roof and put it back on. Other companies gave me a song & dance about how it needed to be replaced ($400), it was more complicated than it looks, has come take a look before giving a firm price, blah blah blah. Ed was no-nonsense, quoted me a reasonable price over the phone for such a simple job ($100), and got the job done the next day. No BS. A year later, it's still snug and tight. I'm happy.

Ed Norcross, the mason who owns The Chimney Pro business, who had been recommended highly to me from our roofer, gave me a verbal estimate $500 less than another mason. Though there was a breakdown in communication after I left a voice mail message at his office asking for confirmation of the job, once that got resolved, Ed and his crew did a fabulous job rebuilding our chimney. They showed up at 9:00 in the morning and except for a brief lunch break, they worked continuously in the hot sun until the job was done about 3:30 in the afternoon. The finished chimney looks great, and Ed also put on a a metal chimney cap to keep out animals and fixed a small piece of missing mortar inside the house as I had requested. My wife and I are very pleased with the job they did, and I would readily hire Ed and his crew again in the future if we ever need chimney work done.

Ed was great to work with. He was prompt, responsive and sent us photos of what he was working on. Hilary, who keeps his schedule, was really wonderful. She's also responsive, prompt and just makes working with Ed a lot easier. I really appreciated working with both of them and would hire him again for sure.

There was a delay due to his schedule to get the work done due to weather, but, he did arrive per rescheduled date and work was completed on a timely basis

Ed came to our home on the day we called to look at the job. We had an estimate the next day. We picked a date for the work to be done and Ed and his crew arrived on time, erected staging and began the work right away.

It went on without a hitch. Ed removed the damaged cover and replaced it with a new heavy duty one.

This company was professional in every way. Showed up when they said they would. Did beautiful work. ...AND stuck to their estimate even though the job was more complicated and time consuming then they thought. I highly recommend them and will gladly hire them to work on the second chimney. Pleasure to work with!

Ed Just wanted to update you on our chimneys after yesterday's long rain and some heavy downpours - not the slightest evidence of water up there. And I looked at every inch. The last bit of water we saw a couple of months ago appears to have just been the final weep of water in the bricks as you thought. Great job fixing someone else's mistakes!! Amazing that 3 other 'Chimney Guys' couldn't figure out the problem. You need any reference/referral have then give me a call or email. You're 'The Chimney Grand Master'.

Had to wait for a spell of dry weather but once the rain stopped late morning, they came promptly with 3-4 men who finished in 6 hours. 3 year warranty on waterproofing.

Cleanup could have been more thorough.

Could not have been better. We had a bit of miscommunication in terms of scheduling, that we worked out in a good manner, but otherwise, it was a great experience working with him.

Eddie quoted a fair price. He was punctual. Did a great job from what I can see from the ground. He also did a little masonry repair to my stoop for a modest fee. If I remember correctly, Eddie just repainted the chimney free of charge. This was a good value. Overall, I'm quite happy. He had two other guys do the chimney sweep. They did a good job. I was glad that Eddie was there to get them started and inspect after the cleaning was complete.

OK, so I've been fighting a leak for 4 years that everyone I've called has blamed on the roof and it was  NOT the roof!   I've paid for multiple chimney sealings and "fixes" , the last one was in December with caulk that got me through last winter.  When I got him back in the spring for a pernament fix, he told me that if it wasn't leaking I should leave it alone since it was such an expensive job. Then, luckily, it leaked a month ago (better now then in the middle of winter) and I called yet another mason....the Chimney Pro whose name I got from a local company that sells supplies for masonry and drywall products to the pros.   Having bought products from them on the advice of my roofer, I knew they were in touch with real pros.
Anyway, I called and since he was in the area he came that same day to scope out the job.   Wnen does that ever happen?not to me and never on the Cape? He recognized the problems right away after checking out the flue inside and the area that always gets the flood water, checking out the way the chimney connected to the roofs and then looking into the top of the chimney where we had a good laugh @ the way the last guy used caulk instead of replacing a broken flue tile and using mortar where there were obvious cracks in the crown.
The Chimney Pro came back and fixed it even when we couldn't be there.  He put another tile on the second flue to bring it above the top of the crown, replaced the fireplace flue tile that was badly cracked and had caulk on it, inspected the entire outer brick mortar situation and fixed all the problem areas and the crown?.with MORTAR and not caulk!  He also put on a new SS chimney cap that now covers both of the flues.   ?..and now it has a warranty and I have a guy who really knows his job and is willing to listen and problem solve .   Oh, I didn't mention that he also resealed the entire chimney to make certain that the new areas would also be taken care of.
Ed took it all seriously and stopped the madness  of my having to deal with folks who didn't listen and don't want to diagnose what is really going wrong.   He started with what I knew and then independently sought out all of the issues, so he had a clear picture of what needed to be fixed, rather than slapping a caulk bandaid on a part of it and not really understanding the whole issue.     Here's to you, ED, you are our  Chimney Pro!

 I just bought the house in April and inherited the problem.  Ed not only fixed it for what I thought was a reasonable price - he also improved it.  The old cap cracked because it was too large a space to cover with a single, unreinforced piece of stone.  So Ed fabricated a reinforced piece that should hold up much better. 

He also checked the chimney for damage or to see whether it would need cleaning. He told me it did not.  I would have no way of verifying if the internal part of the chimney or the flue was damaged or rusted, so I always will trust a vendor more when they tell me they don't need to do work that I have no way of verifying.
